I'm sure there will be other brush questions so I figured I'd start this thread off.
I'm assiming that the wiki is incorrect about being able to create overhangs --
""Deform" allows the terrain mesh to be raised or lowered, or it can
extrude the ground "outward" or "inward" along its surface normal. In
other words, if you were to apply the brush to the side of a cliff in
extrude mode you could create a cave-like hollow or a bulging overhang."
As far as I can tell the deform brush only changes the mesh on teh Z axsis and does not extrude it in or out as stated. Am I missing something? I'd love to have some terrain arches etc that the player can walk under, or over (not both of course) built into the terrain rather than having to create models for it.

Yes you can, it's an option on the brush to change form z axis to the surface normal.
One problem with overhangs on the terrain is that you cannot currently get your party members or enemies to path find under them, since the nodes will be painted on the top of the terrain, but not the bottom (raycasts down and hit the first thing it touches).
That is one of the current limitations we had to work around. What you can do is pull up the terrain and make it slightly overhung, then use an actual mesh with the same texture for the celing cap. You can end up creating nice cracks and cave in's, etc.

When you click on the Deform tool, look at the object inspector where you can choose your brush sizes. There is a "Deform Mode" option there. Click it and choose "Extrude along normal" instead of "Raise / Lower".

Ah, yes. There it is. Thanks for pointing that out. Will be quite useful.
