I have reinstalled toolset dozens of times, tried everything listed in the wiki, and still cannot created the required database for DA... I use Vista, and everything listed is for XP... eveytime i try to create the database file i get this message-

For help, click: http://go.microsoft....se&LinkId=20476

have you tried to restore the database after the failed install. also check if you got a BWDATOOLSET SQL server running after the install. (even if it's empty)

the server named itself "SQLEXPRESS"... there is no BWDATOOLSET SQL anywhere that i can locate.. i followed the wiki to create a new database folder but it differs from the wiki examples because in the wiki it says -
_______________________________________________________________________________
Did the database get restored?
Check the toolset installation directory for the restored database files. Depending on where you installed the Game and Toolset, they will be in a location similar to
C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\tools\\toolssql\\Data\\ <--- version 1.00 installed under the Tools folder
or
C:\\Program Files\\DAODB\\ <--- version 1.01 of the toolset goes here, avoiding long path issue
________________________________________________________________________________
trouble is there is no folder called toolssql in the tools fold3er of DA... do I need to make a dummy folder with the data folder inside?

ive done alot of 'building' and scripting in crtain online games such as SecondLife, and others, but this is unlike anything ive ever attempted so I feel more like a Nube than I ever have before

the backup is stored here: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age\\tools\\dbbak (with or without x86 dependning if you have 64 bit or 32 bit OS), the path you said is for the existing database on the diffrent toolset versions. and it's the place you shall restore it to using the .bat file you can create if you follow the wiki..
#6
Posté 09 mars 2010 - 04:23
so do i need t create that path then? because no matter how many times i reinstall it, that path never appears... the wiki doesnt say where it comes from, only that it should be there ?

i created another .bat after deleting the last one i made... this is the message i get when i run it...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The directory or file cannot be created.

both pathes should be created during install. the backup with the toolset the other when MSSQL is installed. to be on the safe side you should allways run the installer as admin.

Posté 09 mars 2010 - 04:34
as far as i know, i am set up running as admin... is there a way to check and make certain?

Posté 09 mars 2010 - 04:41
I looked and yes, I am running as admin... even reinstalled yet again to be safe... but still that path is absent?

hey if you are using vista you might need to use msql 2008 express. thats what I had to do as soon as it was installed everything worked fine.
Oh and I reinstalled the toolset after sql 2008

Another thing you can try is download the sql studio it is more user friendly makes it easy to create a database.

Ill tell you... Ive had a nightmare of a time with this stupid toolset... Im not about to buy any program i dont understand just so i can try to use a program that doesnt install correctly without having to spend days trying to figure out why... there are several versions od 2008, none of which are covered in the least by the wiki... i havent any idea which one to use even if i did opt to buy it
why cant they just make one that dl and installs without needing a degree in technoweenie science? so much for user friendly huh? thanks anyway, but if they wont offer support for their product then i guess im just wasting everyones time

Once you get it working you do not have to ever use sql again. But if you do try to get it working still use the free version of it http://www.microsoft...ver/2008/en/us/ there is a link on the right says sql server 2008(free)
But it's up to you. I almost gave up but now that I have it working im glad i didnt. And yes learning to use the toolset is difficult since the wiki isnt complete but it's a work in progresss. Good luck whatever you decide.

you don't need MSSQL 2008 for win7 so i don't see why you would need it for Vista. they don't differ that much under the shell.

ok.. ill bite... whats the secret to downloading the 2008?? i went to the link you gave but there are all these garbage links that follow your curser all over the page and dont allow you to actually download anything.. just continually reroutes you to thier news and sales forums...

Posté 09 mars 2010 - 06:23
maybe dont really need 2008, vs 2005, but at this point am willing to try almost anything.. this toolset is starting to appear a myth to me... almost as if it doesnt actually exist other than by name, and all these mods and such being made by bioware and EA staffers... the toolset app is just a ploy to get technotards like myself all confuzzled while real developers have a good chuckle at our expense.... come on now, be honest... lol

Posté 09 mars 2010 - 06:29
Well if there are links that follow your cursor you might have popups enebled. But to download it it first makes you install microsoft web platform. you will have to restart your computer once that installs. Or you could try the studio express for 2005 since you already have the 2005 sql installed. I couldnt even get 2005 to work so you could try downloading that then you can create the database using it

hmmm... only thing i can figure is that it isnt vista compatable, since everyone i have spoken to is using it with xp... guess ill have to wait until they make a vista version or sumthin... having same issues with 2008 as with 2005...

well the toolset is no myth, I have used it for over a year now. first on XP Pro 64 bit and now also on WIn7 home 64 bit on my laptop. (who need Vista it's good for nothing)
but all versions has suffered from install problems and it was alot worse during the beta.

trust me, Vista was not my choice lol- it was the only option I had when i built this gaming PC. At least I understood XP... Vista is garbage in its purest form lol
as for toolset being a hoax/myth It was merely my frustration speaking. Actually I have heard rumors that the whole reason behind its release was not just so people could make thier own mods, but as an inside tool to determine if there may or may not be a market for an online version to compete with WOW and others... Not sure how much of it is true, but its an interesting buzz...
still... would be nice if they made a version that would not only install correctly, but actually worked, cuz not everyone who is interested in the app is a programer/diagnostitian lol
