that's hardly true, i think it's more along the lines that bioware want their own IP because they don't want third parties like WotC to pull strings on what they can and can't do, and the toolset is necissary for them to try to repeat the NWN1 success. (which I think is very hard todo), DA:O is better used as a recruitment merit, if you show you can master it your certainly have a backdoor into the game industry. DA:O is by no means a base that you can determine online capacity. MP was sacrificed in expense of a better SP game. you wouldn't do that if you wanted to go MMORPG.

The problems with the toolset install are, in almost all cases, tied to issues installing the MS SQL server or the database. Both of these are outside Bioware's control since the issues are primarily with Microsoft software permissions (UAC, administrator level privs, overly protected folders) and the different configurations of OS versions/patches, secondary software patch levels, etc. - which make installing MS SQL server a pain.

Just browse the MSDN forums for issues related to installing and running the MS SQL servers and you'll understand what I mean.

While it can be argued that Bioware should have chosen something better like MySQL, the fact remains that they were developing in a corporate environment with servers installed/maintained by professional system administrators and they could not have possibly thought through all the possible issues that could arise on the different configurations.

idk... maybe if the toolset actually downloaded and installed all the files and paths the wiki says it does the problems would be less... but even adding the subfolders and paths manually, it still says they dont exist? and changing the target does no good either because the target folder is empty as well. SQL eventually did allow me to locate the certain file required, but even after making new folder in SQL for dragonage (step by step as wiki said to) the target folder was still empty after following the wiki to restore the data. no doubt that SQL isnt cooperationg as it should, but I believe the main issue is in the toolset itself since that is what is missing the required files in the first place, no?

I'm using Vista as well. Have you used the SQL SP2 for 2005?

ive tried every version of SQL I can find, but the problem sems from the actual toolset- ive downloaded several times and reinstalled many more times, but it is missing a pathway every single time.

the pathway that is missing is-

C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\tools\\toolssql\\Data\\ (toolssql/data does not exist in the downloads ive recieved for some reason so it isnt reconized by sql at all, even after manually vcreating the pathways)

and these 2 files-

bw_dragonage_content.ldf

and

bw_dragonage_content.mdf

are not in the correct locations according to wiki they should be somewhere else altogether, but they are hidden inside a folder that sql cannot access. I had to search manually thru every Dragonage and DAODB file in my system to find them :(

I wish I knew why this was, but unless the server is having issues all week, the dl for toolset seems to have been corrupted somehow and I am unable to repair it at this time.. maybe eventually they will fix it and i can try again...

That path doesn't exist in version 1.01 only in the 1.0 or beta versions, it's now located together with the database in C:\\Program Files (x86)\\DAODB

should be located in you C:\\Program Files (x86)\\DAODB\\Data folder, if the folder is empty; you must restore the database using the wiki instructions here: http://social.biowar...kup_and_restore

beyond that you should also make sure you have a MSSQL service running called BWDATOOLSET

press WIN + R and write "services.msc" and browse the list to see if it's there and that it is running.

also check if the database has admin rights by running the MSSQL server surface area tool.
