I agree with you, sir. I myself am not an Arab, but am a Muslim. And it sort of made me sad that the very few people in the game who have Arabic names are people who are not the most likeable characters. But oh well.

But to answer the question, there are a few Asians in the game.

And yes, Samesh and Nirali Bhatia technically are Asians. But the Bhatias are brown, I think the OP asked more about the traditional Oriental or "yellow" Asians.

I always thought the Quarians were the stand in for arabs.  The veils/nonrevealing helmets seem like a metaphor for the veils conservative arab women must wear.

Mind you, I've only ever known like 3 people of arab decent, so I am completely ignorant. And what about The Bhatias, from ME1?

The veils I thought of as ways of expressing personality and distinguishing themselves as individuals, what with them basically having the storm-trooper thing going on. I imagine little trinkets and customization of their suits are what enable them to tell each other apart even though there aren't nearly enough examples in-game.

Aside from the veiled look, not much else in common that I can see. Someone had mentioned in another thread that the opening lines to the trial seem to be from some Jewish prayer.

Anyway, my original point was that someone might feel a race/ethnicity is under-represented, and my point was that even if you are represented, you may not be represented in the best light. Either way it probably just means you are taking the game too seriously  :D

There are quite a few Asians in ME1; but now that you mention it I can't think of even one in ME2.

It could be worse though, I can't think of a single Hispanic in ME1 or ME2.

They're all working for the reapers. How do you think they get all their advanced technology?

Did BW slim down on the Human ethnic diversity this time around or is it just me?

Still think the should've given Jacob a West Indian accent, character would've been moderately more interesting.

Heh, that's what I thought too... at least on the outside *evil snicker*

In response to the OP - my Shep is Asianesque, and I think I'd agree that there don't seem to be many straight up Asians in the universe, but then again, Jacob is the first person of color I can recall off the top of my head (even though I'm sure there was a presence as a secondary/mission char in ME1... right?). Wait. Is captain Anderson black? I can't even really tell. Really almost everyone is kind of muddled into one big ethnic melting pot, except a lot of the humans on the crew (and the defaul Sheps) :P

All these ethnic questions are rediculous because: If (IF) you are taking this game so seriously that race is an issue, consider that by the 23rd century, all humans would be diluted ethincally to the point of pretty much all opie cunninghams.

Martin Sheen is hispanic, so maybe the Illusive Man is hispanic as well. After all, hispanics come in all shapes and colors, from Cameron Diaz to Sammy Sosa.

And a new thread type is born. "Where are all the in ME?"

If you don't see your racial group in ME you should count your blessings. I'm Arab and I am stuck with Khalisah Al-Jilani and Zaeed to represent, and they both can be punched by Shep.

Umm. Just because Zaeed's name kind of sounds like Sayid from Lost  that doesn't make him Arab. LOL! He clearly looks and sounds British/European.

Arabs are an ethnic group, not racial, so they come in all shapes and sizes (from white to black, and every shade in between). And many of us speak English fluently in a number of accents, it mostly depends on where and who they learned the language from. I myself speak in an American accent, and I had other friends growing up who spoke in British accents. Using the accent argument is not viable because then you start wondering where on Earth those Quarians learned all their different accents.

I always thought the Quarians were the stand in for arabs.  The veils/nonrevealing helmets seem like a metaphor for the veils conservative arab women must wear.

I  think the Quarians are Jewish stand-ins considering they were driven from their homeland & then faced with centuries of suspicion & persecution. A case can also be made that they could be considered the ME universe's version of the Roma with their nomadic existence & the level of discrimination that they have to deal with from the other races.

And the Bhatias are definitely Asian. There were quite a few characters of Asian descent in ME1, not so much in ME2 though.

His last name is Massani, which does imply some Arabic background, though not necessarily immediate. Captain Anderson is British, but you couldn't tell by his accent.

How does that imply some Arabic backround? Massani doesn't really sound like  an Arabic name to me. I've never heard it used before but it sounds Italian more than anything else.
