I've heard the theory that Duncan is alive before and I believe it.
Consider the fact that Duncan's corpse is suspiciously missing in Return to Ostagar, that he died an off-screen death, that the Architect most certainly would not kill Wardens, but take them with him and turn them into darkspawn, and that Fernando Melo described the ogre as having "potentially killed your mentor" and we have a pretty clear case of "Duncan's darkspawn"
I don't buy this at all. While the Architect wpuld yes most likely try to get Duncan on his side. Seeing as Duncan knows all about the Architect and what he wants I would think he would sooner kill himself then suffer the same fate as his old mentor and Utha.

Obviously.
We all know that Justice is the new mantle of a ghouled Schmooples fade spirit abomination, trained in the arts of sword and sorcery by the Flemeth-possessed Duncan.
That is quite seriously the scariest thing I've read on these boards. ~Shudder~

Also- in reference to The Calling *SPOILERS*
Duncan knows the Architect, and knows what his plan is-inasmuch as anyone really did (which may not be much). But since he led to the death of Genivieve, Brendan, and indirectly the death of the other 2 companions, and the Mabari - I find it really hard to believe that Duncan would not sooner die on his sword than submit (no jokes about us having his sword-the Deep Roads are riddled with weapons).
Seriously-don't bring him back.

I think he could be an interesting character. Being a spirit of justice, he should have some interesting comments on the PC's decisions. I'll definitely want him around for those execute/release moments.

But calling the fact that they used an artistic whitescreen as 'fact' that Duncan is not dead is not very convincing. You don't see alot of dead bodies and discarded armor at Ost-does that mean none of them died?
Seriously-if you want to believe he is alive, then do so. But do not point it as fact when it is nothing of the sort.
It is stated many times that darkspawn carry victims below. It's more than possible his body was as well. The only body we see is Cailan's - does that mean everyone at Ostagar survived?

Btw Duncan's Body was never at ostigar, Thats a big enough clue that hes still alive.

The first thing I thought of when I learned there was a character named Justice was a Fade spirit. I've seen posts from others who thought the same.

Agreed would also help explain how to unlock the Spirit Warrior specialization (although curious on if the human rogue unlocks the Shadow specialization or it is a book same for Anders and Battlemage)
Makes sense then you have (at least) one of each new NPC teach a specialization
Vallena - Keeper
Sigrun - Leigionairre Scout
Justice - Spirit Warrior

I guess I would be one of the few disappointed if they put Duncan back in. I, for one; like the fact that he is dead and gone in a very poignant way. To retrofit him as alive but injured is Fergus X10000 -- and since they already did it once, I'd rather it not be done again. (...)
Seriously-don't bring him back.
Absolutely agreed, incidentally. I'd hate to see a poignant cinematic moment in the game reduced to a cheap editing trick. A great strength of the game is that, moments of levity aside, it generally takes itself seriously and doesn't resort to off-panel comic book silliness.
Duncan died heroically when he was betrayed, overwhelmed, and took an axe to the face. The dramatic impact of the Dragon Age setting would be seriously diminished if a major character couldn't die without having a bridge dropped on him or her in full view of the player.

the last character is rumored to be called justice... what do you think he/she/it might be? doesn't sound like a person, but a golem or dog would be a bit boring... but i can't think of another creature that could actually become a party member?!
