I don't think anyone actually knows the answer to this question because the game isn't out yet. We can only speculate at this point.

I hear that many of you say Rogue when using daggers. But what if I want to use larger swords(Bastard Swords <3)?

I really think that warriors are more designed for soaking up the damage whilst the rogues will do better at jumping out and quickly killing single targets. the way i see it dual wielding warriors will excell at standing in the middle of a group of enemies and taking them all down, rogues will do better at creeping up on one target and killing it. single target dies quicker to rogue, multiple targets die quicker to warrior. (thats the way i see it, obviously depends on wether or not you get the AoE skills or single target dps skills but i think that the classes will do better in these roles)

As has been said; it depends how you want to play :)

@thheno

a bastard sword is two handed, you cant dual wield it.

I don't know. If you are going to use your character as a tank, why dual wield?? I would think that you are better off with a weapon and shield (better defense) or two handed weapon (more damage) than dual wielding.

@Adrigaar:

Not if you have exotic weapon profency. Then it counts as a one-handed weapon. Besides, a bastard sword is actually a longsword with the broadness of a greatsword.

its not tanking, its killing a group of enemies, tanking is taking all the damage and keeping aggro so your team-mates can kill the enemies. tanking wouldnt work solo this would (or at least work better.. all depends on how ahrd it is to solo dragon age and what difficulty you have it on) difference basically is that the warrior kills the mob, it doesnt just stand there getting hit :)

@thheNO

i cant find any skill called exotic weapon profency (or proficiency which is what i thought you ment) but after looking at bastard swords i realise i was thinking of something completely different. if you want to dual wield swords then you are going to need 36 dex, theoretically it comes down to how you want to play, if you want to be a stealthy rogue with swords you probably can without much disadvantage over a rogue using daggers (possibly with no disadvantage depending on the difference between the base damage for swords and daggers) or if you want to just go wading into enemy's whirling your swords around etc. then warrior would work just as well. without seeing the game i personally think swords are more suited to warriors as they have the strength for it whereas rogues want to keep their strength to a minimum and concentrate on other stats.

thheNO might be thinking of NWN1. In NWN1, Exotic Weapon Proficiency did exist, it was a feat for granting access to new weapon types for wielding, including the Bastard Sword. In NWN1, the Bastard Sword was a 1H sword that had stronger damage than the other 1H weapons, though still not quite as much as the 2Hers.

With that said, if i'm not mistaken, it's unusual for bastard swords to be 1Hers, they would usually be 2Hers more often than not. I think NWN1 1Hized bastard swords to shake things up.

Nope, the bastard swords are both 1H and 2H swords. In D&D rules, a person with Martial Weapon Profency can use bastard swords, but only two-handed. A person with Exotic Weapon Profency can use a bastard sword as a one-handed weapon. And the main difference between bastard swords and longswords, was that it had hgher damage and the same chance for critical hit. For any D10 weapon(damage) a critical of 19-20x2, whereas a greatsword had D12 damage but 20-20x3 critical hit.

With my old build, I had a fighter(perhaps rogue in DA:O, seems more fun) with a critical chance of 16-20x3(improved critical, wepon master feats, and epic two-weapon fighting) This made this build pretty unbeateable in melee, as he had twice the atacks of a normal foe, and got critical hits quite often. If you mix in whirlwind(same ability as now) as well......:D

Ahh, thanks for the info! Didn't know that! Image IPB My play experience on NWN1 was on a friend's copy of it. I never got to beat the game, but at least got to check it out a bit. He doesn't have any of the NWN1 expansions, so I have no intel or experience with those. Most of my game was a Dwarf pure Fighter with a Great Axe. Image IPB

Goofed off a little with a half-elf ranger too that I used as a dummy character to lean the game playing mechanics on as well.

I'm definitely no expert on NWN1.

He didn't say 'tanking' he said 'use them as a tank.' Tanks are a type of class that are good at tanking (taking large amount of damage) but that's not all they can do.

If I say 'I'm going to make my paladin a tank' that doesn't mean I lose all ability to do damage and it doesn't hurt my ability to solo. In fact, against multiple mobs, I'm probably better at soloing than a DPS build.

A tank is a person that is good against multiple (weak) oponents, but not so good against one opponent with high damage. A Dwarf with high constitution, shield and waraxe is a tank in D&D terms. Too bad WoW has corrupted the term :*(

@Tyrax Lightning

IMO, DA:O gameplay and combat mechanics are alot like NWN. Even stealth and dialogue skills are the same(but simplified) so I'm really looking forward to this game. Because of NWN, I can't play games with no story as WoW:whistle:. I just can't stand it.

So if you're waiting for DA:O, playing NWN is not a bad idea. If you install Players Resource Consortinum(a free mod that gives you a ton of D&D classes, skills, feats and weapons+more) you're going to have a great time B)
