EDIT: official word from a Bioware rep would be nice.  Awakening is out in a week and im more than prepared to shell out my next chunk of $40 for more dragon age goodness, but i need to know how to prepare.

so what are the details about the items that get imported with our characters?
i know DLC doesnt get imported, but should we sell all nonessentials, unequip all of our companions and sell the gear?
I have a trunkfull of gear at wardens keep, will that be transfered to a new storage location in the warden fortress?  Or must i sell all of the items I dont absolutely need and fill my inventory with my 90 best items?

Finally, is there a way to upgrade our backpack post game?  I'v already beaten the game on normal, working through it on nightmare now, but on my first playthrough i didnt know to pick up backpacks every time i saw them because they would go away.

So now my level 10-ish mage has a 100 slot bag, and my arch demon bashing warrior still only has a 90 slot.  This means i can only import 90 items instead of 125 for people who knew to obsessively bag collect :D

answers please? PLEASE!

Why don’t my DLC items carry forward?
The rewards in Awakening quickly outpace the best items you’d find from Origins and Origins’ DLC. The root of the issue is that the previously released DLC was not built in such a way that those DLC items import properly into Awakening.

Rather than spending the resources addressing this thorny issue in multiple DLCs, we spent our time adding features and polish that made Awakening better. We believed that since the gear was quickly replaced that this wasn’t a major issue. We are currently investigating solutions for a possible patch. Some silver lining to this, the “Power of Blood” abilities from Warden’s Keep do import properly into Awakening.

UPDATE: I learned today that we would be able to import items from Return to Ostagar into Awakening. So, don't strip out of King Cailan's armor or drop Duncan's Dagger!

------------------------------------

Just a copy and paste from a Boiware peep at the top of this forums, RtO will be in but they are still "Maybe" working on wardens keep, but guess we will only find out on release. Shame if not as Maric's Sword + Starfang was pure <3 on a duel wield warrior.

On the live demonstration they also mentioned that anything in the wardens chest will not import, however you can take what you want out of it. As long as the items are in your invo or charecter they will transfer over during the upload.

oh, what you are wearing does NOT transfer? i would absolutely hate to lose my juggernaut + starfang, i use a hybrid set for fighting, but i havnt found much in the game that looks cooler, and i think thats currently what is equipped on my character.

I suppose il log on post-campaign and unequip all my characters gear if that be the case

I think we will start in a set of clothes like the city elf and our imports will be in our inventory. A chest with starting gear will be near by.

same issue with me nemesis, it seems a little unfair to limit the amount of items we can import by our backpack size. plus i have like 20+ gifts left over from the campaign that i thought would be useful in gaining the favor of my new companions right off the bat

Watch not import any character specific gifts that would really muck up the game.

And where the heck did this idea that what you are wearing doesn't import come from?

eh, i have an extra andrastes grace, but it would either leave it behind, or if the new companions dont want it il just throw it away. Maybe our new darkspawn companion (if that rumour is true) would like my beef bone? my dog likes me plenty already lol

The only gift I'm importing is the dirty pantaloons.

...just in case.

at the top of my import list is: at least a few gifts, juggernaut armor set, starfang, +healing armor pieces, 2 2H weapons, my arcane warrior sword, one stack of high damage arrows and my best bow, and any remaining top level health + mana potions

im pretty sure that should still be well below 90, so maybe i can bring some extra non essential gear

The Andrastes Grace can be given to Leliana again as a 10+max gift. There are 3. Denerim Alienage, Redclife Mill and West Brecillian Forest just next to the place where the great bear stands over a dead templar.

Cailan's stuff and other RtO stuff scale with your level, so it's possible to get it to Tier 7/Dragonbone.  It's gonna cost you a pretty sovereign or several though.

I have imported my character and had Starfang equiped. But Starfang does not carry over to Awakening. Instead I found myself carrying a simple Axe once the import was complete.

I would like to go back and retrieve all of my equipment from storage, companions, etc. and sell what I don't want but I've already completed the game and would hate to have to reload an old save, go sell all of my items, etc. and then have to redue the final battle at the end.

Only saying redo the battle because the way that I understand the importing, it will carry over your decisions you've made in Origins to Awakening. I'd hate to not play the final battle again and have Awakening choose those decisions for me.

Just sell it to Boden (I think thats his name) in the party camp. There should be some sort of save from after you beat the game.

Checked it out. You are correct. After completing the game there is a save that allows you to continue to travel if you load it.

The journal still reads that you have completed the game.

Now I can at least go back, sell some items that I won't need in the upcoming expansion (to allow transfer of as much money as I can get), start and finish Return to Ostagar, then make sure I have everything on my character I want before doing a new import.

I have Andulla's Bleesing, Ring of Ages, Life Giver, Shadow of the Empire, Boots/Gloves that weren't part of any DLC, Roses Thorn, and The Spellward, and 6 grandmaster Runes.
My question is if I unequip my parties crap/mine [ which will make them naked haa haa] will everything in my in ventory/money be imported with the exclusion of DLC stuff?
If you know something is true please say. Thanks.
