Casey Hudson commented on this in an interview.. From what I remember he said you will have to deal with it in some way in ME 3.. I don't really think it should be that big of a deal.. I mean you were gone for 2 years before you have a new LI.. But I imagine it will be a simple choice between the two or neither for that matter and possibly get a new one..

I really hope this has a large impact on the game but I'm not holding my breath. If it does then I am in trouble, as I cheated on Liara in almost every single playthrough. O.o

i replayed me1 just so that I wouldn't be cheating on anyone on my canon Shep. That way the only emotion running through my veins will be happiness when I finally build tali a home on Rannoch. That and the ME1 romances never really did anything for me, I just did them out of a completionist mentality.

Obviously, I think there needs to be a confrontation scene between the two LI's.
Personally, I want to see the ME2 LI's getting quite defensive over Shepard, even calling Kaidan/Ashley out on the fact that they called Shepard a traitor. Similarly, I want the ME1 LI's to argue their side.
In my little dream world, it'd come close to blows between Garrus and Kaidan, but Shepard would probably step in because she doesn't want to see either of them lower themselves to outright brawling. I say 'probably' because there's a part of me that would like to see some fisty cuffs!

Nothing extraordinary is going to happen for cheating.  You might get a nasty email or something.

Nah, there will be no affect at all, except your LI will have changed from the old one to the new one if you "cheated." Don't forget, Shepherd was "dead" for two years. You think Liara, Ashley or Kaiden stayed celibate for those two years? Doubtful. Well, maybe Liara did because she's the one who turned Shepherd over to Cerberus to be brought back... and Shepherd was her first... so she probably waited for her/him... so I guess Shepherd is kind of an an ass if he/she cheats on Liara. But you can forget about Ashley or Kaiden. They don't even like Shepherd anymore now that he rolls with Cerberus.

Pfft...I wouldn't even call those people 'Liaramancers'.  True 'Liaramancers' didn't cheat on the good doctor!

To be honest, I think one of the elements that Bioware could develop in their game romances is how your potential LI treat double dating and such. In real life women (or men for that matter) are more likely to just dump you cold if they find out you are flirting with another than to ask you to choose and then be a good sport if you choose the other one. Virually all Bioware's potential LI are just way to rational about it as a rule.

I'm just going to guess and say that if you remain faithful, they in turn will probably have remained faithful for ME3. If you weren't, they will both probably be in relationships with other people as well in ME3. Romancing them, in turn, may be difficult (e.g., extremely high paragon/renegade checks early in the game) or even impossible at that point.

For example, if you do not remain faithful to Liara, I'm guessing that she will be romantically involved with Feron (see ME: Redemption) during ME3 (that is, if he is still alive).

I admit that these are just my guesses, but I am hoping that who you romance in ME2 drastically alters your ME3 game.

Its not as if people were given a choice to end the relationship any other way. ;\\ Unless bioware expect people to play me1 all over again.. There should be an option to end your romance with Ashley/Kaidan and Liara.

i don't really remember signing a contract with with either Ashley or Liara i rather see it as a one night stand and the way Ashley reacted on Horizon where she accused me of being a traitor well too bad, my Shep moved on and if she thinks it was cheating then i hope there is a renegade interrupt to pistol whip her this time even if I'm playing Paragon
