Which game did a better job with the Li's?

When I played Dragon Age, I was very impressed with how they did the Li's interaction with your character. You had a building romance through out the game and in alot of the main story scene's, your Li would would have a special comment or reaction. And after the romance scene, they still had dialog and actually acknowledged the relationship.

In Mass Effect 2, however, I only got three lines out of Garrus. Most of those were about doing research for the 'big night'. Now those lines are fine to have, and I actually get a big kick out of it, but I wanted more depth to the relationship. Thane's romance was better done, no doubt, but I prefer Garrus.

So, what I'm saying is, in the next Mass Effect, please have the Li's more like the ones in Dragon Age. Have them intereact with Shepard in the Story because it just seems like romance is a sidequest. And have them acknowledge the fact that you were together and that your still in a relationship. Finally, have more lines bt them and Shep as well as other squadmates who might comment on the relationship.

Just wanted to let people know what I thought, let them know what you thinkPosted Image

Garrus really doesn't care because he has calibrations to perform.

I believe DA:O did better they actually make you listen to them and work for there approval (gifts) not just talking after missions... that is to easy

altho you can use gifts to still make them like you after you drop thier approval ratings

I like the Mass Effect characters and setting better but I think the length and depth of the romances in Dragon Age was the best I've seen in a game.

I think ME did a better job culminating relationships while DA:O was better at building up to them. After reaching "love" status with DA:O it was just kind of... empty. Open to other perspectives though.

I talked with Lelianna throughout nearly the entire game. I had several conversations with her. But in all of them, I never tried to seduce her or do anything similar, as I dislike video game romances. However Lelianna apparently decided to fall in love with my character regardless. However she only professed her love in one of the last conversations I had with her, right before the final battle. Compare that to Tali, who basically wanted to **** Shepard after our second conversation. So while I don't pay much attention to video game romances, it seems the build up to the romances in Dragon Age is a lot better than in Mass Effect 2. Then again character interaction in general is better than in Mass Effect 2, so I guess that is to be expected.

The characters and setting were better in ME, I agree. But the way DA:O did it was better.

Part of the reason may be that Dragon Age was in development since 2004, and was supposed to come out before Mass Effect 1:

DA:O has much longer time for the romances to develop. One of the resons why Tali works so well is that you get some continuation from ME1. So in terms of overall depth and time to get to know the characters DA:O wins hands down.

As for the characters I suppose it's all a matter of personal choice. For me Morrigan is the best 'bad girl' character Bioware has ever done and Tali the best 'cute girl' they ever made.

Still it's hard to compare Mass Effect to Dragon Age until ME3 is out when the romances will hopefully be completed.

ME2's LIs and DAO's LIs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ME1's LIs

But, I'm not sure which ones are better between ME2 and DAO, probably DAO, but Jack is a really good LI

DAO had better build-up, but I found that ME2 had better romances. Miri, Thane, Tali and Jack where all better then any of DAO romances, it's just he build up could have been better. (Miri does have the best in the game IMO)

ME2's LIs and DAO's LIs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ME1's LIs

I have to disagree with this assessment. ME1 LIs made a far greater emotional impact, save for a couple of exceptions. DA:O does have superior buildup to both, however.

I think the depth of the Dragon Age romances were better, whilst the actual characters in ME are more interesting. Except maybe Alistair, 'cause he's too sweet. Posted Image

All we need to do for ME3 is give us even half the depth of the romances in DAO, and the number of conversations with squad mates in general, combined with the awesome characters in the Mass Effect universe and it will blow everything else out of the water.

DA, but I did like Miranda's Romance, but it has nothing on Morrigan's romance.

ME 1 had virtually no emotional impact.  It was one  or two lines of flirt.....then I am totally interested in you.....then hit the sack before the final mission.  Not unlike ME2 but ME2 had more emotional impact for sure.

I agree...that one was good but they all follow the same basic predictable structure.  As I said though ME2 had more emotional impact and Jack's trumps them all.

ME1 had more actual buildup from casual acquaintances into an actual relationship. And yes, Jack is an exception in ME2, certainly better in that regard than for example Miranda.
