After centuries of constant skirmishes, a trend becomes clear. The first line of defense, unacknowledged for centuries, weakens.
--From chapter 40 of Stalata Negat: The Stone Unheld: A Commentary on the Roll of Years, by Shaper Erden.

Ever since i first bought Dragon Age: Origins (Don't let my join date fool you, i originally had DA:O on the Xbox 360) there has always been a special place in my heart for the Legion of the Dead. The idea of someone leaving behind his or her former life in exchange for a promise of a glorious death, really hit home with me.

At the same time i really enjoyed the Dwarven culture in Dragon Age. And i have enjoyed playing through both a Noble and a Duster, exploring all the options about the Paragon of Her Kind questline. Loved it all.

As i have been an eager FanFic writer on many other, much smaller, community sites and clans, i will dive into the deep end here and start a community FanFic, and like the Legion: The FanFic accepts all.

This particular FanFic is about the fall of Bownammar, the home of the Legion. Not much information is found ingame, so im sure we can make something up that is worthy of the Dragon Age lore.

So go ahead, share the story of your legionnaire during the fall of his/her fortress: The City of the Dead; Bownammar!

One stone

Two stones

Barun dared a small look down the tunnel. The front genlock moved almost mechanically
towards him, its sharp eyes trying to see anything out of the ordinary. It
wouldn’t see anything soon.

Five stones

Six stones

The charges should have gone off by now, the front genlock had already passed
it. Barun was ready to signal an attack, when an explosion rocked the tunnel,
threatening to pull the roof down around him. But soon it was all over, the noise died down and soon the tunnel fell silent.
Barun stood up and watched what had previously been a service tunnel leading back
to the eastern bridge. Now it was no more.

Ula raised her head, and a wide grin spread across her face. The former miner stood up and
watched the devastation with an almost childlike pride, like when one of Barun’s
nephews would have come up to him with an especially well made drawing. Ula shifted
her focus from the mess, to him, her eyes searching for any sign of approval.
Barun forced a small smile and nodded, which in term made Ula smile even more.

The rest of the unit got up and soon Barun ordered them back to Bownammar. The episode
which had occurred in the tunnel just previously, had been repeating itself for
the past few weeks.

The Darkspawn would try to force their way in through the small and numerous
tunnels, the Legion would drive them back and send off a small unit to close them
off, preferably meanwhile the Darkspawn were still in them.

It wouldn’t be long though, before the Darkspawn would be too many for the
Legion to fend off. Soon Barun and the other dwarves would have to fall back to
Bownammar itself. At least Barun was sure he would be able to find a glorious
death there. The one he had been promised when he joined.
