A Standout Moment: Realizing that siding with the more 'honorable' candidate for the Dwarven Kingship may be not as good for Ferelden as siding with the 'dubious' candidate. It was tough that there was no clear cut 'good' result - but I liked it!

Thinks that really struck me:
  • My very first reaction to the game, which was screaming "LIARS!  LYING LIARS WHO LIE!" at the screen over the opening movie where we get the Chantry's explination of the Darkspawn.  Sure, there may be a grain of truth here, but a) the first information you get will NOT be the whole truth and B) this "truth" comes from a religious institution, thus making it highly, highly suspect.  Heck, Duncan's speach even starts with "The Chantry teaches us..."  Which means to me that the information is inherently and deeply flawed in some way.  It perfectly laid down the whole "trust no one" and "find your own truths" themes of the game.
  • The creation of the golems.  That's just harsh, man.  But totally believable.
  • The city elf and dwarven noble origins, the latter especially since I actually DID end up killing Trian, and not just being framed for it. :P
  • The party banter.  It added so much depth to the characters on top of the humor it brought!
  • The High Dragon showing up at the top of the mountian above Haven.  SO.  PRETTY. <3
Things I would like to see expanded/delved deeper into.

[*]GodBaby.  Duh.
[*]The true origins of the Darkspawn (as I touched on above)
[*]The
Qunari.  The dicotomy of their belief structure, the way it sounds so
noble and yet it's so crushing to the individual... I want to know more.
[*]Empress Celine, and Orlais in general and it's "Great Game of Thrones".  Clearly they're not the Big Bad that Loghain wants them to be, but they're still an EMPIRE.  Which, by its very definiation, means that they're made up of conquored states.  One of which is currently pretty damned weak militarily and only recently escaped Orlesian occupation...
[*]The reaction of the Chantry to whatever "progressive" measures get put in place in Ferelden (granting the elves a homeland, an autonomous Circle of Magi, elves being given higher standing (Banns/chancellors/a voice in court/etc)

Freckles pretty much covered the Alistair portion of my wishlist, so I'll just repeat what she said here. ^_^

Freckles04 wrote...

  • Fiona. Fiona, Fiona, Fiona. Is she Alistair's mother? If not, who is the babe from The Calling?
  • Maric. "Dying at sea" is a little too wide of a window of opportunity. I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Reluctant King decided to arrange that so he could run off to Weisshaupt to be with Fiona, finally...and wouldn't THAT be an awesome family reunion for Alistair! Angst! Conflict! I'd love to see it.
  • Duncan. I have my suspicions on this, based on The Calling, but I hope we do see him again. And I hope Alistair is with us when we do.
  • Repercussions from the Dark Ritual. Whether that's dealing with the godbaby, or censure from the other Wardens, I'd like to see how that decision affects the world.
  • The heir thing. This is particularly of interest to those of us who married off our Couslands to King Alistair. I can see it being a very large point of conflict as time goes on and straining the relationship.
  • Being a Grey Warden with all the other Grey Wardens. Throughout DA:O, the PC and Alistair are on their own as Grey Wardens. Neither of them REALLY knows what being a Grey Warden is all about, they just stumble along and try to end the Blight. Now that the Blight is over and they're rebuilding the order, and other Grey Wardens are coming to Ferelden to help, etc., I can see potential conflict arise as these new Wardens don't like what the PC has done/is doing, or vice versa. This could be particularly juicy conflict given Alistair's rather heroic view of the Wardens' place in Thedas. Disillusionment is hard.
  • More Alistair. Of course. King Alistair, Warden Alistair, Alistair-needing-to-be-redeemed, I don't care. He is just a fascinating, deep character, and really enjoyable to interact with, so I'd hate to see him disappear after only one game. Particularly when a lot of future stories can revolve around him (Fiona, Maric, Duncan, Wardens, Weisshaupt, political intrigue, heir thing...).
  • More epic events like the Landsmeet. That is my absolute favourite part of the game.
  • Continue to keep us in the dark! Okay, that's an odd request. But what I mean is, I loved how NOTHING is black-and-white, truth-or-lie. Everything you learn is coloured by characters' perspectives. What they present to you as truth might be truth; or it might be what they believe is the truth; or it might not be the truth at all, but just what they want you to believe. It makes the world so much deeper and more realistic when you have to make judgments based on information that you know could be biased or blatantly untrue.

Story related; any mage/fade lore is good, I'm a sucker for physics-y things like that and there was depth to it that I wasn't expecting when I started playing, but then I wasn't expecting romances until I found I'd accidentally started romancing both leliana and morrigan on my first play through and they got angry with me.
As for what some of the companions say, the sten/morrigan dialogue makes me want a romancable qunari, maybe there should be requirements in strength, willpower and basic shield training to initiate the love scene? :) But, to be honest, they all have stories that could be expanded upon, that's what makes them such interesting characters, I'd hate to see one get expanded on and not my favourite, but I won't name names, and I suspect that that isn't the point of this thread anyway.

Game related; the fight on the bridge in the deep roads was very cool, any non-boss fights that last for 5 minutes are good, and with characters of a higher level it might be nice to see even more enemies, almost like the density of the darkspawn in the trench. I suspect the alienage fight at the end was probably just as good but I get strange latency there for some reason.
Also, boss fights with proper tactics are very fun, like the broodmother. I'm going to own up to being an ex-warcraft player and it's nice to just figure out tactics to a fight as it's happening, since bosses on warcraft all seem to start with a 20 minute tactics quiz by some idiot who takes it way too seriously, takes all the fun out of it. Maybe not something specific to origins, I've been away from rpgs for a while to be honest, just thought I'd mention it.

Riordan's suggestion to turn Loghain into a Grey Warden almost floored me. Of all the things I was expecting, that was a solid blow from a storyline perspective, especially when it becomes apparent that you have to choose between Alistair and Loghain. There's just so much room for the decision. Will you forsake a (potentially) trusted ally to gain a tactical genius? Is Loghain even going to survive the Joining? Will he stab you anyway?

Too many questions and an appropriately weighty decision. Best moment of the game!

Dragon Age is one of the best games I've ever played :wizard: (True Story) It's the reason why I started playing Mass Effect :) But, there are some things that I think would be great if they were added.

-Morrigan's B*stard-God-Baby better not come back and destroy the World. or Imma be pissed, just saying

-More playable races Not just Dwarves, humans, and Elves. I wanna see some Qunari Wardens

-More Origins (Only two human ones, didn't like that)

-A more diverse group of companions

-More Dragons

-MORE EDGY! Dragon Age needs to be more Edgy!

-More Crazy Old men who live in Tree Stumps. He made me giggle

-I want to know what happened to that Alien Baby, from the asteroid

Thats all I got from the Top of my head.

Dragon Age: Origins was a dark fantasy game, but, for me, it could have been even darker. I guess I like that kind of stuff, so that probably explains most of my stand-outs. :)

The moments that stood out for me the most could be classified in the following categories:

Loss / Feeling of loss:
  • Arcane warrior (we found the last of its kind... in a phylactery)
  • Golden City, lost to arrogance
  • Elven longevity, lost to hasty humans
  • Griffons (where are they now?)
  • The Dalish origin story where you eventually have to leave your clan. I kept chosing the dialogue options that refused Duncan's proposition until I was absolutely forced to go and leave everything I had ever known behind.
  • Not a loss... but the potential re-discovery of something that was lost long ago: Morrigan's Old God Baby
Scary / Disturbing moments:
  • Haven village. The whole atmostphere was eerie, where everyone looked like they had something to hide.
  • Hespith reciting her poem ("First day..."). When I entered the adjacent room and heard the first verse coming out of seemingly nowhere, I actually stopped for a minute to try to figure out where did the voice come from. Quite creepy and very effective.
  • The truth behind the golem creation process.
Tragedy / Suffering:
  • Playing as a Female City Elf, the origin story got me quite outraged. The cousin outraged me even more by not speaking out about what happened afterward, but I realize that this is a different world. I also thought that this was the most compelling origin, given that I was really left with only two choices: Jail or Grey Warden?
  • City Elves being oppressed... though I felt that my character could have done with more discrimation. ;)  Loved coming back to my Alienage and finding that things are worse than ever.
  • Alistair mourning outside Flemeth's hut. The sunset was beautiful and the mood + animation was very appropriate for what had just happened at Ostagar.
  • The Lady of the Forest only wanting to be released.
Miscellaneous:
  • Good-bye scene right before going into the siege of Denerim. I really liked that every companion had something to say and not just, say, the members that were left behind or the ones you took with you.
  • Alistair's romance
  • Pearl's "suprise" option
  • Scenes where my character actually showed expression (as another poster had mentioned)
  • Companion-initiated conversations (as another poster had mentioned)
  • Sandal at Fort Drakon in a room full of blood and corpses. Too awesome.
What events or comments in the game would I like to see followed through or expanded on?
  • Anything that would address the items in my "Loss / Feeling of loss" category
  • Qunari and the potential future invasion
  • Shale wanting to become a dwarf once again
  • The question of how to secure an heir for Alistair. Or even Anora.

I would like to be able to express my idea with details, but I dont speak English,
and it would seem that Bioware never passes on the French forum to require our opinon Image IPB
So.. I will try my best to express my idea.

I dont know, if the question is only on the game part but having read
the book The stolen Throne (Le trône volé in french) and :

I am very intricate by the part where Maric has meet Flemeth in the Korcari Wilds..what is the deal between them ?
Of what this is they discussed ? and what he has made in its house all this time?
Morrigan would be it the half-sister of Alistair ?

I am also really intrigued by the history between Fiona and Maric..Is this Alistair this child ?
or there are another children somewhere ?

As regards to the game origins..

would like to learn more about the life in Antiva about which Zevran speaks to us.
history of assassins seems very interesting and filled intrigue politic and moral choice.

Also, as alot person, i would like to know what about the Rituel and the child of Morrigan and which secret hides between it and Flemeth.

And Duncan he is really dead or not ? he is a darkspawn?

Loghain..why in the Stolen throne he seem to be honest and a good person, who would give his life for Maric and now in the game i just want to kill him cause he betrayed the two Maric children ..

I hope we will left Ferelden definitively to explore another country in Thedas with a new character
but dont forget to include romance (even if this is not the old ones) cause this is one of the best part of origins imo :)

And like someone says :

More Alistair.

More epic events like the Landsmeet .

so that it for the moment, i hope that you will be able to understanding me with my bad english.

In Lothering, if you threaten the reverend mother when asking about the key to Sten's cage, Alistair intervenes and begs her to give you the key.

The templar in the Circle Tower enthralled by the desire demon, hallucinating his fantasy family life.

Alistair's conversation with Dog about whether he is really smart enough to understand speech.

Dog chewing Morrigan's underpants.

I can only respond, at the moment, to the first part of the question. Standout moment for me was doing human noble origin and having to leave my father and mother. It just the time it takes to play through the origin I had my characters backstory, his connection with his family, his being second to Fergus but also being the loved youngest child ("pup"). I practically cried for real when that all ended an I went with Duncan. In fact everything my character has done is pretty much a reaction to losing first parents and then Duncan and feeling conflicted about the pull of duty and the need for revenge against Arl Howe.

(I did the dwarf noble first and really enjoyed that too but it --not surprisingly- didn't have the same emotional impact).

And I hate Oghren and really don't ever want to see him again.

I don't know how far forward in time the next few releases will take us, but my dwarf noble character left behind a son, my dwarf commoner has a nephew (and possible heir to the throne), a woman I helped on the street promised to send her child to the wardens when he was grown. And, of course, there's Morrigan's child. Basically, the impact of my warden on the world a generation later would be something I'd like to see. I imagine that would be quite a challenge to produce, given the breadth of choice in the game, but it would certainly be a unique RPG experience.

Tamlen in the party camp was probably the most emotional moment of the Dalish Elf story.

Alistair's betrayal and execution at the Landsmeet was powerful, too.

Connor's murder struck me. I wish I had an option to knock Isolde out right away, though - it felt too drawn out.

On the subject of children, I had a "really annoyed" moment when my char killed Wynne, Petra, Kinnon and others - but children escaped and disappeared. How? The tower was closed, wasn't it?

I NEED to know what happens to Morrigan and the child. Preferably with this Warden, so he can see what exactly his son/daughter becomes. Nice drama there. Also, the "Black City" sounded really interesting. That's where the blight is supposed to have started or where it comes from, right? It'd be cool to go there to put down the darkspawn permanently.

And of course, I'd like the stories of all the DAO party members to be continued in a sequel. I loved Alistair, Morrigan, Oghren, Sten, and Shale. I really want to see them return as full characters in another game, not as unimportant cameos like the ME1 characters were in ME2, excluding Tali and Garris. (I know Oghren is returning in Awakening, which I'm very happy about.)

As for standout moments.... Definetly the ending, when you say goodbye to your party before you head into the city.

1. The whole secret society like Haven or when Harrowmont became king and followed paragon branka to kidnap elves and humans. Very dark and very interesting.

2. The Mage side quests and Blackstone irregulars quests are great they should be expanded more that either those mages/ Blackstone become more powerful or are in some kind of trouble. Sounds like it has so much potential to know more about them. They should have more infuence on world events.

3. The mages being free in the circle tower also very interesting. It should cause some interesting fights between templar and mages and more malificar/abominations.

4. Demons. I want know more about them and how they meddle in real world affairs like taking over connors body.

5, Drink blood get more power. I like that idea of dabbling with certain blood to buff up. It makes me want to know more about the fallen tevinter imperium and their dirty sectrets.

6. The lost elven culture should be expanded on. It can't be all gone there should be some ruins left somewhere. So that needs to be expanded on.

The moment when Anora or Alistair rallies the armies near the end of the game, "For Ferelden" or 'For the Grey Wardens'. I think the music there was great.

The Morrigan twist at the end is of course memorable. I already knew that there will be a Morrigan twist at the end even before I started playing because Ive read some reviews. So I was really excited to see what it was.

The interactions with dog, especially that of Sten are fun to watch.

Leliana sings in the camp. I wish I had my video capture program ready.

I love the shapshift mini-game in the Fade. I wish it were a bigger and longer part of the game.

Meeting Flemeth. Meeting someone from the legends face to face kept my spirits high.

GaxKang - a relic from BG2, I was excited to see the Dragon Age version. He was the hardest boss in BG2.How does he fare in Dragon Age?

At the camp, Oghren drops on the ground after drinking too much.lol Who could forget that?

Poet Tree - I had so much fun reading his poet-ree that I took screenshots of all his dialogue. :)

The puzzle in the sacred ashes quest where you must step on 2 tiles from each side. That was a good break from all the hack and slash.

The hidden door in the Brecialian forest ruins. There should be more of it but the mini-map shouldnt make them easily detectable.

The battle in the Brecilian Forest against 4 maleficars. One of the few fights where I had to reload many times. Mages are formidable so more mages means harder fights. More mage fights needed!

The creepiest part of the game - Hespith's chant. scary

Broodmother - knowing that they are the source of darkspawn answered many questions but sprouted many more questions.

Sandal!!!! - Enchantment? Enchantment! nuff said

the prison rescue - this one is really entertaining and offers much replay value. I'm eager to see the different outcomes when you mix and match different characters when forming the rescue team..

The Proving - I love tournaments. Test your skill and see how far you can go.

Battle at Ostagar - that cinematic movie was breathtaking,.reminiscent of the orcs siege in the Lord of the Rings movies

biggest revelation in the game - that Shale was a female - lol

Shale's hatred for birds especially pigeons are hilarious.

I'd like to see more of:

-Tevinter Impreium!!!!! first priority

-Antiva, just how dangerous is this place?

-Weisserhaupt, or whatever lol. need to see the Grey Warden's base

The buildup to the Broodmother was rather good. Kudos to Hespith's voice actress.

I dunno if it counts as a standout moment since it's so little, but a detail that caught my eye and said to me "these folk have really taken care with this game" was seeing the blond girlie Daveth was chatting up in the Ostagar cutscene.

I'm also rather partial to the way the origins you didn't take are referenced in the game itself.

Forgot to mention the 2 cutscenes that really had an emotional impact which were encountering the Archdemon right before the Dead Trenches and first encountering the High Dragon after your encounter with Kolgrim.  They really put the Dragon into Dragon Age: Origins! :D

Zevran was very outspoken, he never left doubts about his opinions. At one point he even took over, and my PC could do nothing about it, but stand back and watch.

I hated that she could not be persuaded by Zevran's moving plea for the mages, even though she agreed with him. Those are the kind of NPCs I like, not the 'follow two steps behind, say nothing, but disapprove/approve anyways'.

The broodmother was simply horrific. For the first time in a long time, I reacted to an image shown on my monitor. I flinched and jerked my hands away from the key-board. All the leading up to it/her was simply chilling. I wish to know what happened to Hespith.

Kal-Sharok is very mysterious. I was quite intrigued when the Shaper told my PC that "they haven't forgiven us yet". I wonder what's going on there.

I would love to learn more about Antiva. How is it that a guild has so much power that they can override the ruling king, and nullify the need for a standing army? Enemy generals being afraid of assassination can't be the only reason. Slavery and breeding for murder is apparently a-okay in Antiva, so is child-prostitution (Zevran tells my PC that he learned his 'special' massage technique in the wh*rehouse, and he also tells her that he was only 7 when sold to the Crows)

I would like to see Loghain more fleshed out. He is an well written character, and I'd like him better explained.

I did not like that there were no consequences whatsoever going to the mages. The demon seemed content to wait for my PC and her gang to take their time getting there, clearing it, and returning to Redcliffe. Silly demon.

And then there is Sandal. One of my bigger "What?" moments came thanks to him. More precisely him standing in Ft. Drakon surrounded by corpses, selling my PC stuff in case she needed some additional firepower/protection. What's his story, anyway? I mean, why was he wandering the deep roads all by himself?

Last, but definitely not least, more Zevran please. My PC will be grateful, and she'll send you cookies. :)
