Dev Question: Standout Moments (SPOILERS INSIDE)

Posté 11 mars 2010 - 01:38
City elf origin - even playing as a male character... made my warden want to be a Braveheart type hero.
Ostagar... I expected the whiny knight to die. When the brave rogue died too... that shook me!
The story of Conor in Redcliff... was heart-wrenching.
The broodmother. Oh wow!
There are times when I am playing I make my wife come and listen to the banter. The party banter between the characters in this game is hilarious. And even though I am on my fourth play-though I still heard something last night that I hadn't heard before (When Alastair asked Wynne to repair his shirt...) Oghren's banter the first time you leave Orzamarr ? That
had me laugh out loud as well
----
What I want to see more of:
As a possible expansion pack or even fan-expansion module, let's see King Behlen try to re-take some of the Thaigs now that the blight has been defeated. (Not something Harrowmont would be good at...)
I also want to find out more about what happened at Soldiers Peak. If the player allowed Avernus to continue his research, does he come up with anything? If so is it useful? Whether or not it is useful, can it be used without Blood Magic? Since Soldiers Peak is near the part of Ferelden where Awakening will be set, will we get to re-visit it in Awakening ?

I can only respond, at the moment, to the first part of the question. Standout moment for me was doing human noble origin and having to leave my father and mother. It just the time it takes to play through the origin I had my characters backstory, his connection with his family, his being second to Fergus but also being the loved youngest child ("pup"). I practically cried for real when that all ended an I went with Duncan. In fact everything my character has done is pretty much a reaction to losing first parents and then Duncan and feeling conflicted about the pull of duty and the need for revenge against Arl Howe.
(I did the dwarf noble first and really enjoyed that too but it --not surprisingly- didn't have the same emotional impact).
And I hate Oghren and really don't ever want to see him again.
I don't want this to become an Oghren hate-fest but I feel exactly the same way. I always ask him to leave my party, I just cannot stomach him.

There is a note I encountered in the basement or dungeon of Redcliffe, it mentions a person who had apple orchards on his property in Rainesfere, it also mentions that sometime or other, he died in that dungeon or basement of Redcliffe during the Orlesian occupation of Ferelden.
Where is Rainesfere exactly and why is that note there..it just seems to indicate some random fact, but I keep thinking..its a referral to future possibilities.
Will we ever visit this place? As others have mentioned in other threads, myself included, I am also very interested in the Qunari, thats all Sten's fault. hehe Would love to visit Seheron and Par Vollen.
The story also hints at a larger world than what we can see on the current map. Of course my imagination started working overtime, when it was stated it was unknown as to where exactly the Qunari came from before they invaded Seheron and Par Vollen areas.
Okay with that out of the way...
Moments that stood out for me...hard decisions, moral or immoral.
Killing Flemeth, I had a hard time with that, because after all..she rescued us from the Tower of Ishal.
Letting Loghain live...I've only ever let him live twice in all my 15 play-throughs, it is HARD for me to allow him to live, and I always struggle with that. lol
Morrigan.....when she gets that wistful, sad look on her face, when we are discussing our mothers. My PC states that she loved her mother...and Morrigan is just sad after that, due to I suppose not ever having that kind of mother daughter relationship.
Isolde...I would LOVE to get rid of her, I can't stand the woman. lol;
Oghren has one memorable line (even though I don't like him much) " Let's show them their hearts, and then show them ours." Brought a lump to my throat...heh.
Killing the Archdemon, the Ultimate Sacrifice. I had tears running down my face...I've only ever done that once.
Its a shame that heroic ending....doesn't mean anything.

These. I did my first playthrough of the Deep Roads in the dark, by myself, all the way through. When the Broodmother was revealed, it was horrifying. And then finding out how golems are made...
Other standout moments:
HN origin was gripping.
The Joining totally took me by surprise the first time.
I don't know why this got to me so much, but when Loghain looked at my character after the duel and said that he hadn't seen strength like that since Maric, I just...swooned. And wanted to punch Morrigan for asking to do the Ritual with him.

2) Morrigan's offer leaves too many questions to not be on the players' minds 24/7.
3) The Architect so far only appeared in The Calling and some screenshots so I don't know if he counts but he is a far more epic villain than any archdemon.

The entire lead up to the Broodmother with Hespith.
Both dwarf origins were exceptionally well done for different reasons. My dwarf noble wanted a 'holy cow' reaction from someone when her companions when they find out she is an Aeducan. The HN gets that reaction from Wynne, but it's lacking in Orzammar.
On a lighter note, the jailbreak/rescue at Fort Drakon
Everything about Caladrius. I just wish there could have been more said about the city elf's father being in the cages.
Tamlin showing up at camp. Again, there should have been more reaction from the companions.
I do not like what the City Elf can say about the wedding when revisiting the Alienage.
Wynne is the best done character for me. She has layers and except for Return to Ostagar (which is cringe-worthy) her dialogue and banter can give different perspectives on her depending upon what the player-character is like.
In general, all the of the companions are nicely deep. I really want to spend more time with each of them.
Ser Otto's quest is a stand out. From its creepy beginning to creepy middle to sad end, it's very well done.
I loved playing a mage, but after several playthroughs the origin still seems lacking. The whole Jowan thing seems forced. Two of my mages would have signed up for the Grey Wardens without a forced choice.

The highlight moment was probably the
rose scene. Who wouldn't love to be told what a rare and wonderful thing
they are?
The break-up scene was a standout moment for sure, but a terrible one.
Totally unexpected and the outcome of it depended only on one line that
without knowing many wouldn't have chosen it (at the hardening part). It
felt like a cheap trick. Is the same when you get or not to choose who is going to be king/queen.
Of the gathering allies missions the Brecilian Forest's quests were my
favorites - the whole atmosphere, the werewolves and the Dalish elves,
the overall story and I loved meeting the Lady of the Forest.
I really enjoyed playing as a mage and as a rogue. I really wished there
was a way to be a Dalish mage. I never managed to finish a game as a
warrior.
Other locations in Thedas? Given the whole history of Ferelden I would
say Orlais, but somehow I think the Tevinter Imperium with all its
powerful mages is more interesting.

1) Morrigan revealing of her emotional innocence when it comes to relationships. Tough girl from the woods with no understanding of love has trouble expressing her new found feelings... lets continue this story please...
2) Alistair claiming to want nothing to do with being a leader but stepping up with some profound victory speech at the end... I was so proud of my "little buddy" after all the pep talks I gave him throughout our adventure... I hope he sees the significance of his position, finds his self worth and happiness... I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of king and person he becomes...

Oh yeah and....
3) The Dalish Elf story is incredible and having the opportunity at the end to grant them land so they can quit wanering around like homeless people was gripping... I'm curious to see how they as a people react to this and how there attitudes change towards humans and the crown.... next time I go wandering through my old stomping grounds...

1. Broodmother - Very well done. Both the story and the suspense. Left me upset over Hespith's fate.
2. Battle at Ostagar - Betrayal at it's finest. Hated Loghain from tht point on and only from lurking on message board was willing to do one playthru to get a different ending.
3. Ultimate sacrifice - the funeral was touching.
4. Origins themselves- Not only did we get different playthrus but also different options, reactions, and glimpses into the outcome of the stories we did not play. Must say I was extremely disappointed that in the Dalish origin we had such a heart rending moment when our friend Tamlen was sent to kill us. How could the creators have an elf show respect to a king in RTO and not have any reaction or funeral for a life long friend? There should have been an option in the dialog choices to have the SO comfort you or a friend help you make a pyre. Same with human noble. Not once does anyone console you on your loss.
5. Relationships - Well done, both in romance and just having a wam bam. The number of errors with Alistair was annoying since no patch has been sent out to fix but still fun regardless. The only thing I would like to see as a woman, is having the man make some of the moves after a relationship begins. 1 out of 5 "talks" he wants a kiss or more. It is just weird making all the suggestions.
Things I would like to see...
1. Flemeth/Morrigan - More on the crazy vet's story. What did the witch do? Was her death pre-planned as much as the seduction? I can not get out of my head the Ash warrior's story about a Morrigan.
2. Closure on the note you find at Redcliffe.
3. Closure with your dog at the end.
4. The feaking ten or more nugs you are suppose to be able to find.
5. Not just be able to talk to comrades at camp, but interact with items. Campfire -has Alistair burning dinner, Wynne making cookies for Sten, or Morrigan/ Zeveran using the cooking pot to make poison...or the pail at the water to cool Zeveran's advances with a dunking, Lelianna upset trying to get blood out, or the girls admiring one of the men bathing. I am sure you get the point. The little interactions at the camp are one of the major standout moments and made the game both exciting and replayable.

That for standout moments, As for the rest
Are Antivan protistutes as soiled & cheap as everyone says?? I MUST KNOW!!!
Also Kal-Sharok, mentioned a goodbit but never visited, very interested in how they survived & what they're like compared to the Orzamor Dwaves, being abandond and left without a hierarchey i'm very curious what became of them (and the dwavian sections of the games are always my fav)
While unlikely, i would like to know more bout Flemith, was she really the same Flemith, was she really going to posses morigahn? i would like some resolution or insight as to what was going on between her & morigan as i don't trust either's version (or what lil they'd divuldge)
Would like a lil insight on the whole Alistair's mum thing, was she really the elvan mage grey warden or just some tramp from red cliff? am rather curious bout this possible plot hole, more so as my fav charecter is the city elf female i always stick with Alistair
Would like to know more bout the Bard's of Orlais, the Antivan Crows & that shadow of the empire group, in a broader sense i'd like to see, join & know alot more about the underworld of dragon age, lots of intrigue with that, especialy for Rouges
The Qunari too, Par Vollen especialy as it sounded very interesting from Sten's comments, definetly want to see more from the Qunari (and yes a female one would be...interesting...)

And it was mentioned that Dwarves have a different reaction to lyrium than the other races. Surely this will be expanded upon.
The fade and the golden city has always been something that is a very interesting plot point with very little information regarding its existence. Are Archdemons really tainted old gods like the lore said or if the story of how darkspawn came into being is real or not. The people who write the history about something always have a certain spin on reality. Like what we saw in Haven, things change over time and what is truth now might not have always been so.
Also humans defeated the ancient elves and turned them into slaves. What gave humans advantage over beings that think they were immortal to beat them. Perhaps humans just made that part up so that they would make themselves looks more powerful by defeating a more magical enemy.

6. Human noble origin ignores Iona's daughter as they leave the slaver's warehouse. Closure there.
Maybe two more...
7. Mage's prison. Talks about fade being thin there. Want an escapee companion who drags us back to save friends.
8. Warden's Keep. What was the point? How come Levi says its the gray wardens, takes over the area and then my PC can't even get a bed for the night? Everywhere I look there are tubs and not once do we get to take a bath. Not anywhere!

The first one that jumps to mind is my first encounter with spiders in the Mage Origin story. I jumped out of my chair! Ha ha, you got me good on that one.
The next standout is Morrigan's glowing review of my Gray Warden stamina .... all too true, I'm afraid. I have demonstrated my stamina three times already, and she keeps coming back for more. Thank goodness I have all these dragons and monsters to slay, else I'd have no excuse to leave and would surely die from exhaustion.

For me it was the one thing that really stood out in DA:O. The atmosphere, the lore, the gameplay, brilliant and refreshing.
Don't necessarily care about the Golden/Black City, as it's supposed to be unreachable. OTOH it might make for a great main quest. At any rate, I'd love to see more of the Fade, both its dangerous and benevolent inhabitants, learn more "Fade tricks" like the shape-changing and unearth more knowledge about the Fade in general.
A sequel or expansion that entirely takes place in the Fade and I'd be sold! :-)

Things I'd like to find out more (that come to my mind right now) in next Dragon Age are connected with Dalish.
My Dalish elf asked for a land for her people at the end. I'd love to see Ostagar rebuilt by elves like a new elven capital city. Or any other elven permanent settlement, to see how they managed to adjust to sedentary lifestyle.
It would also be nice to take part in one of the gatherings of the clans - for example to see different clans having different opinins on contacts with humans. I would also be great to experience one of religious rituals devoted to Creators.

The most significant location is the Black City - Bioware can make a full game to explore freeing that location from its darkness...if it is truly the source of the taint. If they do so, they need to get rid of that washed out look of the fade. It is painful to the eyes

Smaller things:
- The relationship between King Cailan and Empress Celene.
- More information on Maric's last voyage on the sea. Perhaps a DLC episode where we got to play as Maric on that faithful trip? Or a new novel by David Gaider? It would be great if he'd be able to resolve the life of Maric in his novels.
- I'd like to know more about the life of a templar. Perhaps an origin story in a future game, where we get to experience it first hand?
Larger things:
- The whole thing with the god-child.
- I'd like the Qunari card to be played sooner or later. They are just so intriguing as a people and as a culture.
- Orlais. I want Orlais to be the setting of a/the sequel. It is 100% fascinating.
Moments/events:
- Buffing up the defences of Redcliffe.
- The landsmeet and gaining the support of the nobles prior to it.
- Adventures in the fade (though they could be tightened up a bit).
- The banter! I love it! All of it! Each and every time it occurs!
- Getting imprisoned in Fort Drakon. It was something completely unexpected for me, and thus very much appreciated. I loved how I got to use my party in order to save the PC. I'd like the sequel to have more of these kinds of moments, where we get to use solely our party members while our PC is preoccupied with something else!
