It is incomprehensible to me that a patch issued days after the games release could render it completly unplayable.  It is also incomprehensible that bioware hasn't made any comment about their huge mistake.  Makes you think twice about giving them more money.

No kidding they are acting like EA instead of Bioware and I don't buy EA games anymore because of this exact thing.

Works on vista 32-bit.. But yeah, we need a hotfix for the hotfix and a major patch.

the only thing it does is render the shortcuts useless due to a corrupt dll. Either bypass it by making a new shortcut with the following target adress.

"C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\DAOriginsLauncher.exe"

or replace the DLL. there are various topics explaining how to replace the dll. The patch for the rest, works fine.

Downloaded the patch and now the game won't start--just goes to the launch screen and then stays there with that annoying music......uninstalled it and reinstalled and still doesn't work

Don't install the patch until it is fixed. Hundreds of people are unable to start the game once the patch is installed. The launcher starts, but the Play button does nothing. In my case I am running Windows XP SP3 32bit OS, not that it matters since it seems to be happening to all types of operating systems.

Except all that does is start the launcher.  When you click "Play" two things happen.  Jack and ****.

eh, can't get in game either. I wonder why they leave the patch online for download if it has issues. Everyone must be out for the weekend :P

While there are 'work arounds'.. it's pretty much crap that Bioware hasn't given the official "Downloading this may cause your launcher to stop working and you can do XYZ"

People who don't frequent forums are pretty much left to their own devices about what just happened to their game. The only plus in the matter is that the Game Patches page doesn't seem to be easy to find without someone linking you to it.

I'm just glad I had the self-awareness of saying, "If a patch came out this fast and it's only to fix a few minor details with the character creator, then I'll pass" and within 30 minutes of saying such there was an absolute flood of problems in the forums.

I'm positive Bioware will work it out and get us stable patches and fix memory leaks/shale (how the **** did they break him?) and yes, even the launcher. But, it's going to take more than a day 1 patch to convince me there won't be problems. That.. and reading the forums thoroughly. Which shouldn't be necessary to make sure a patch comes out working. :)

Oh look another idiot thread about the problem that we have posted MULTIPLE THREADS about fixing. Theres a fix go find it you idiots. Its a minor oversight that takes less then a minute to fix. And don't forget EA is the publisher, so bioware has to jump through their hoops PERIOD.

Having the same problems as everyone else here too. My solution is to run the autoplay on the dvd and start the game from there.

You should never install a 0-day patch the day before or on a weekend. :P

dragoaskani, if you havent noticed, the forum search function does not work. so instead of venting out on people, why not provide an additional link to the thread with the fix? would be much more helpful.

Then you didn't follow the directions. You have to download the x86 version of the Microsoft patch only...EVEN IF you have a x64bit system.

I guess I'll just wait for patch 1.02 before installing anything.

In a way, I'm glad I got the PC version because at least it's much eaiser to patch than the Xbox or PS3 would be.

Although out of curiosity, what are the other threads that tell you how to fix the problems with the patch? There's no point in telling us there are other threads if you don't actually link to them.
