Sure hope I don't need to scan for anything in ME3. Before Legions loyalty mission I decided to scan everything that was left...figured what the heck. If I need Element zero / Iridium / Platinum or Palladium ME3 will need to take place a few millenia into the future so things can reform.
Maybe I'll get to be a prosSPECTRE in ME3 !!

oh snap! nice one!

also, if scanning is back in ME3 (without major revisions to increase fun-itude) bioware will have a large-scale riot on their hands.

I'm guessing... no. They got rid of all the bad in ME1 (ie: the Mako, and elevators), there's no WAY they're going to keep the mineral scanning. This seems to be everybody's biggest complaint.

I admire your dedication, however. ;) I never mine anything that's below "good" rating. Oh, except Uranus. You know, for the lulz.

Fixed.

PC players take planets from Rich to Depleted in 45 seconds.

I always thought while scanning "don't I have a whole damn crew and an AI on-board to do this mundane nonsense?"

Shepard has to do everything himself.

I thought maybe Kelly could take a moment to scan since all she seems to accomplish is telling me that I have a message...and if you believe some posts...bumping uglies with half the crew..and Varren.

i think minerals sould be given like how money was given to you in assassin's creed 2 the more you upgrade your villa the more money you get after a period of time

only this time your upgrading your ship to get more minerals

I think the scanning would be improved if it was more like a game, instead its just a task. If it was more engaging like the bypassing and whatnot it would work...

this is a bad example because it wasn't really fun either, but at least in Fable 2 when you got a job it was challenging and offered more room for mistakes. Still wasn't fun though...maybe more little missions that are only for minerals...

In all honesty, even 45 seconds is too long. It's just a tedious mechanic that doesn't add anything to the game.

When asked if I would prefer a quick-time event or a tedious screen-paint to get my minerals, I present, the third option.

Ha, I can see that. I personally don't mind it--you'll probably think I'm lying and/or crazy, but sometimes I just get into a planet scanning mood and go system-hopping with my space shovel grabbing what I find (as long as I can still use it for upgrades). But I don't fault anyone for disliking it at all, because I can see how it can get incredibly tedious for most people, and it's really one-dimensional and adds little to the game aside from a way to gather...resources...like in any RPG. It could have been incredibly fun and interesting across the board if they would have tried harder.

Well, I don't have anything against the resource management system itself - I thought it was fairly well-done, and I did enjoy accumulating the stuff especially in my first playthrough. However, when it comes to scanning planets, I don't see why couldn't just, I don't know, have EDI carry out an auto-scan for you and mark out the locations of concentrated mineral reserves, so you could just grab them at your leisure. There just seems to be no good in-game justification for why you have to carry out scans manually.

This. Scanning is a vast improvement over the last game. It is so much easier than driving around a square mile of land looking for a pile of rocks.

In ME3 we will have a hovertank to blast apart planets for there resources as well as jetpacks to jump around with and use Legion as a sledgehammer.

Also since Shephard gets all the ladys, all aliens will have resources in there mouth for Shephard to kiss out of.

I think someone's been watching ZP.
