Will my characters start out Awakening in their underwear?

I am assuming that after an opening cinematic, our characters will interact with their new surroundings in a cut scene/battle/conversation.

Since BioWare seems to be comfortable with the decision to penalize their better customers by taking away their DLC items, I am curious if my characters, who will have their armour/weapons taken away from them, start the opening cut-scene/battle/conversation of the game in their underwear.

I hope not. Besides being insult to injury it would really break whatever dramatic situtation that Bio was trying to set up.

Thanks,
Alodar :)

(Note: By better customers I mean those who have paid more into the BioWare/EA coffers. Someone who pre-ordered the collector's edition of Dragon Age and purchased Watcher's Keep would have spent twice as much as someone who bought the game used.

By Penalize I am referring to how  BioWare's better customers will start Awakening with worse equipment than those who paid less in addition to the fact that they don't get to keep the look they designed for their characters. )

I agree, the main reason I didnt buy Return to Ostagar was that Cailans armour and Duncans sword's, among all other dlc items, would not make the transition to Awakening. It seems rather stupid, was it balancing issues or what? This is an expansion, not a full blown second game, everything including dlc items should have come through.

Yes, you're going to start out unarmed in your underwear, alone, and just because you bought the DLC they're going to make you fight an endless wave of level 31 Elite Boss enemies.

Happy?

They've already said RTO DLC will import. And there's nothing stopping you from loading your epilogue save, changing your gear and resaving then using the "advanced" import feature.

This is a dumb topic. You will most likely just be in some radnom starter armor.

Really? They said they would? Where???

Its a little late to be considering buying it so late in and so close to Awakening but I'm willing to wing it if it true.

Yes RTO DLC imports, warden's keep and stone prisoner items don't due to a coding error (or so I've heard).  Which means they may patch it in later and allow the warden commander to wear the nasty old sweaty dead warden commander's armor.

I am 99% sure there is a default starter armor that they could give you, simply because the Orlesian Warden would need that gear.  However, I seriously doubt you are wearing all DLC gear to begin with and I doubt Bioware is capable of just automatically filling in empty slots with starter gear.  I would change it to RTO/origin gear only to prepare for the expansion.  What will most likely happen, based on how the Origin stories start, is we get a generic cutscene then we get to play our character.  Following some intro dialog they would probably "hook" us up with the starter gear and eventually we would see the cutscenes with our character.  Basically, there is going to be a mini-intro before the story really kicks off, as that is how most games work.

I'd be happier just to keep my stuff but if the 31 Elite Boss enemies have cool looking gear, I'd take that as well.

Heck, make it part of the story. You get ambushed while streaking the quad!

This would make the most sense to me, giving you basic stuff to start with and throwing whatever items you are transferring over into your inventory so you can swap to what you want when ready.

Damn it, I hate it when the Darkspawn strike while I'm streaking the quad! They're so fiendishly crafty.

I thought it was kinda weird to be looting that armor, To me, If I was there and the armor was there on the zombie I just killed, would I put it on? Not likely, same with Cailan's armor and Avernus' Robes, just seemed wrong. Then again Legion of the Dead Set, Jeggernaut Set, and Ancient Elven Armor are all stolen from tomb's, torn from the dead, and newly desecrated remains of it's former owner. Then there is the armor of former meals cut out of some enemies. . . I take it people in Thedas, or at least Ferelden, don't have a problem with that sort of thing. . .

But choosing the Orlesian Warden would take you  to the character creation screen. Importing a character wouldn't.

However, I seriously doubt you are wearing all DLC gear to begin with and I doubt Bioware is capable of just automatically filling in empty slots with starter gear.

I finished Dragon Age with three different mages. One is wearing the Blood Dragon Armor which will be taken. One was wearing the Warden Commander's Armor, the coolest looking armor in the game, which will be taken. They were all  wielding Final Reason which will also be taken.

If it wasn't worth the resources to export the DLC from Origins and import it into Awakening,  I don't think I can count on it being worth the resources for Bio to write a special script to re-equip characters that have had their items taken from them.

Which is why I'm curious if my characters will be in their underwear for the opening cutscene/conversation/battle.

I HIGHLY doubt it. I'm willing to bet that you will start off in default armor and then be able to get your stuff in a chest somewhere or have it in your inventory.

The only one that gets bathed in the whole game is the dog, and have you seen the teeth on these people?

I'm betting those armor sets actually improve their smell.

You do realize you can just load up the final save game, and change your armor, right? And there are some good armors that aren't DLC. And like people have already stated, RtO items are compatible with Awakening now.

But if you reeally want to be in your underwear in the beginning of Awakening. Go right on ahead.

Did you read my second point?  The game is most likely not going to start with your character in an ingame cutscene.  There is going to be some sort of introduction before they get on with the cool stuff.  I suppose they could just load out the Orlesian Warden with gear, but I suspect there will be gear given to us in the beginning because that way they can kill two birds with one stone (load up the new character and the import character).  Could be like what another poster said where you get your items from a chest because maybe you were sleeping or streaking :)  The solution makes the most sense to me, but who knows how they will do it.

Well, I like to roleplay some of my quirks through my characters, such as having no sense of smell(yeah, it's a double-edged sword I was born with, and yes I do have taste), and like me, they can say with a straight face that their....four letter word slang for excrement....doesn't stink.  Plus, if the companions started whining, I'd just hang a Black Ice car air freshener off the right shoulder plate.  Also, nothing makes quite a most lovely sound as flexing your fingers and crunching the gore wedged between them and the lining of your gauntlets.  Even Zev stopped hitting on my characters at that point.:D:whistle:

Considering anything you get in Awakenings is going to be quickly tier up to be much better than old gear I don't understand (aside from vanity) what the fuss is. Yes I love the Warden's keep armor too but if I get cool stuff in the expansion why not be happy with it?

Who knows, if you have a mod like natural bodies working (and it functions in Awakenings) you might even be starting in less :P

j/k I'm sure you'll have some gear, and if they haven't solved all the DLC issues, just change you character's armour/clothes/equipment post epilogue and resave and you're ready to go :)
