Adrenaline Rush-4 (heightened) This allowed for incredible field movement so I could get right up next to enemies and unload with the Rev/Scimi
Concussive Shot-Throw away. I didn't find it very useful for my character and lots of squadies have this ability
Incendiary Ammo-4 (Inferno) This really helped when you AR charge multiple enemies close together kept the extras out of the fight
Disruptor Ammo-4 (Heavy) There was no particular reason for this and after reading other posts squad may have been better but for my purposes this really helped in the one on one situations, once AR wore off.
Cryo Ammo-4 (Squad) AR charging into the middle of three+ frozen enemies is really great. Helps keep the heat of in a big way
Combat Specialist-4 (Commando) The damage boost was really important for my build as I relied on being able to quickly dispatch multiple enemies
Inferno Grenades-1 This was primarily just for fun helped on the IFF mission a bit but again mostly just for fun
Again the main idea for this build is to use cover as little as possible. You want to use AR primarily to get in close and work your way around the back of enemies so they can't shoot you while you're unloading your Rev into them. It's a risky play style but can be extremely rewarding and fun if you do it right. Once you get up close to an enemy the idea is to be in constant motion. Never let them get a good shot lined up on you and as soon as AR cools down dance around behind them and shot/punch them in the back. Also don't be afraid to use AR as a way to get out of trouble if you get yourself into a sticky situation.

Average Gatsby: In your second video, you use the Avenger instead of the Collectors Rifle (which you obviously have if you have the armor). I was wondering if you simply prefer the Avenger and if so, why.
Functionally, I can barely see the difference. The collector AR is interesting in that it doesn't ever have greater or lesser accuracy due to holding on the trigger. I like both more than I like the vindicator, even though the vindicator is better.
I just like the sound of the Avenger. On my non-filmed play, I've been switching between the two.

CAN SOMEONE PLZ PM ME WITH THIS INFO!: I'm a lvl 30 Shock Trooper, and there are 3 things I cannot figure out.... How do you train with new/different weapon types? On my powers wheel, there is ALWAYS 1 empty looking spot, and when I try to use advanced training to fill it, I lose a random power, most often either armor piercing ammo, or Geth Sheild. How do u avoid/ control this? How do u get to equip the Widow Maker sniper rifle for Shepherd ? This stuff has been driving me nuts, someone plz help!
There is only one chance to get the widow and it's on the Collector ship. After the cutscene where you learn about the fact that Collectors are Protheans, look to the left and you'll see a pile of weapons. As a soldier, you will be able to choose either the widow, the revenant LMG or the claymore. If you have already chosen one of these weapons, you cannot change weapons again (even in NG+).
Advanced training allows you to learn a new bonus skill. AP ammo and Geth shield boost are bonus skills. That's why you lose them when you choose advanced training. You can only have one bonus skill.

On my first playthrough with my soldier a month ago, I actually picked the widow after trying the revenant because I thought "LOL THIS ACCURACY SUCKS". I figured (foolishly) I went this far into the game with my trusty avenger, why divorce it now?
Oh what interesting things you learn from forums sometimes

Starting an Insanity playthrough now. I've found that shield drain comes in handy at times, overload plus shield boost is nice.

shotguns up close with heavy fortification
i struggle with the scions on insanity how effective is the revenant against them?

now I dont mean burst fireing for compensation even though that is the easiest and probally most effective way to compensate for the Rev's recoil. If you spend enough time with the gun you can actual go full auto and fight the recoil rather easyily with the thumbstick.

Honestly the Rev can take out anything and handle 99.9% of any situation you throw at it. In the end I really feel the Rev's usage is tied directly into player skill. If you have a hard time with Fireing guns with recoil or compensaiting for recoil, then when you fire the Rev its going to be like trying to soak Godzilla with a thimble of water.

Agreed. The Revenant is a Light Machine Gun by design, but has been lumped into the Assault Rifle family for upgrade purposes.

I agree with the Revenant being a workhorse. I tried switching out to my Evi or Vin when the appropriate ranges applied but it came to the point that I realized that the beast has and needs no substitutes.swk3000 wrote...
Workhorseing (never using any other weapon)
Spray-and-Pray (firing in the general direction of your enemy and hoping enough shots hit to kill them).
That second part is a playstyle issue tbh. Short controled burst allows for great precision with sniping capabilities. Handled correctly, mobs will die with 3-5 seconds and tougher mobs less than 30 secs at most.. Its the best gun in the game, don't let it intimidate you

As if you'd ask a RL soldier in the field to drop his M16 and use his bowie knife more often in combat just to discourage 'bad habits'.swk3000 wrote...
Honestly, despite the raw power of the Revenant, I actually dislike the weapon. As far as I'm concerned, it encourages bad habits, including Workhorseing (never using any other weapon) and Spray-and-Pray (firing in the general direction of your enemy and hoping enough shots hit to kill them). Next time I hit the Collector Ship, I actually plan on picking up the Widow instead of the Revenant.
The Revenant is a workhorse. However, the soldier class uses the assault rifle instinctively more often then the other weapons. The hand canon is always nothing more then a sidearm for use in reserve. It's a weapon for all those classes who can't pick up another half decent weapon. SMGs kinda blow if the player uses it. The shotgun is nice for short-range but still it too is just for backup, considering it's low ammo capacity and range. Most combat situations start at longer distances. The sniper rifle is useful only for long range combat. Heavy weapon ammo is too scarce to justify using it all the time.
The great thing about soldiers is that you can deal with all situations however you feel like. If I feel bloodthirsty and the enemy is giving me a hard time, I switch up to the shotgun or the Blackstorm (if I have it with me) and get up close and personal. The soldier can deal with that thanks to high health and AR (a barrier-like power helps as well).
If I feel like funneling witless idiots into a killing zone then the sniper rifle and Rev come in.
The truth is people use the Rev a lot because it has a lot of ammo and mundo killing power. Not because of bad habits. The Rev is definitely not a SMG, there's nothing "sub" about this weapon. Not in game terms nor in comparison to RL. It's a gun which resembels a LMG. If it was any heavier (like modeled after the M2 HB) then it would be classified as a heavy weapon.

I just got the Revenant for my soldier and I know I haven't adjusted to it yet, but I really like the Avenger/Collecters rifles and the Widow. We'll see if the M60 equivalent does it for me. (I'm not a RL soldier, just to clarify.)
