I personally find this whole argument irrelevant. The only basis for one side glorifies a terrible design decision by the writers at bioware and the other side glorifies a character who is optional in one game.

which goes back to my statement.

This whole topic is stupid and simply for the purpose of once again smearing the forum with Tali love and rubbing everyones noses with the fact that Tali has a legion of supporters. We get it....there are lots of you....now go post in the Tali love thread and move on.

oh and Rachni Queen>Tali

Tali fanboys are creepy.

Everybody knows that Shepard is too much man for one woman, so there is no true heroine.

Miranda, Tali, Ashley, Liara, and everybody else can fight it out of they want.

As a confirmed Talimancer I have to say...I agree with this.

She's a wonderful character but there is no benefit in swamping the forum with threads praising her greatness in the eyes of her fans.  The same goes for any other character; there are threads devoted to the characters...use them.

I don't need Tali to be the main heroine, but I wish Liara fans would stop putting her down to make liara look better.  I am not fond of Liara at all, but I don't put people down for liking her and I do not exploit every opportunity to make her seem marginal either.  I only do it when people denigrate Tali to make another character look better.

In the end, I know I am being petty, but that's what people do.

I am aware...but we are not all alike.  While I understand how you could have seen it as a baiting thread, I do not think it was intended to be and I do not find it tasteless.  At worst I found it unnecessary.

If you thought it was spam then you should have reported it.

If the proliferation of Tali love is bothering you I don't know what to tell you except that we are not doing it to annoy anyone.  So try to roll with it.  People don't need to like it, but they should be respectful.

@Keegdav1,
No worries.  I don't like the 'war' either.  I think it is silly.  It stems from, I think, the massive Tali popularity and fear she will not have the role we want her to have in ME3 versus the large Liara popularity and the irritation at her role being marginalized in ME2 coupled with the comic book which acts as a liason between the two games.  That is, each camp sees the other as a little bit of a threat to the continuation of its favorite character in ME3.  At the core, it's probably a little bit of envy on both sides.

Wooops, I do rag on Jack a bit. Well, not the players who like her. I just don't like the character. Sorry Jack fans. Nothing personal.

I don't find it tasteless either...or spam

The OP thinks that Tali is the main heroine of Mass Effect.
Some people (like me) disagree. Miranda and Liara are more important imo, that's all.
You complain about people who denigrate Tali.

Your ranking on page 5
1)  Tali
2)  Miranda
3)  Ashley
4)  Samara

Samara (not available in ME1, optional in ME2) is more important than Liara...would you care to elaborate?

Goodness. I don't see why anyone should be at anyone else's throats. We're a fan community. Not treating each other with respect is a disservice to what brought us together in the first place.

Personally, if there is an answer to the question posed by the OP, then I maintain Liara is the answer. But this isn't because I adore Liara and hate Tali. I like them both. It's because Liara is the only party member who cannot die in any playthrough so far (which I daresay is one reason she got a comic series).

Tali has an important role too. We'd have to be blind to ignore the issue of the geth and the quarians, in which she's deeply involved. Shep would probably never have gotten to play a part in that story if not for her. But her role doesn't have to be "more important" than Liara's (or anyone else's, for that matter) in order to be able to appreciate it.

Being a fan of one character doesn't mean you have to rag on others. One can, in fact - shock! - like them all.

Meh, just typical Taliban.  I think it is fairly obvious that Liara/Miranda are the "main" heroines at this point, Miranda more so for her VA than for her role in the story.  After that it is pretty debatable, I'd say Ash/Tali at the next tier then Jack then Samara.  Hopefully by the time ME3 is done this will be a pretty clear cut question and answer.

I can sneer at you too, Nozy.  It is not productive.  All I am suggesting is that respect goes two ways.  I don't care that you don't like what I like, but you don't have to disrespect the people who hold opinions that do not agree with  yours.

Man, this thread is still going? I thought it had died off.

Every. Single. Female. Squadmate. is important to the storyline; Liara, Miranda and Tali are arguably equals at different points in time. Really, is that so bad?

He's self conffident. As for the Tali thing I never talk to her and she either dies in ME2 or I don't recruit her. So she's really the not the main one for me.

And the main one is Liara, that's how she's been written in. You may not agree with it, but that's how it is.

That's it right there.  It might just be perspective and preference.

This....now can we all move on to a more interesting and less subjective topic that doesn't involve character love.

My femshep is the main heroine, I don't care if she's not in your playthrough. I don't honestly consider Garrus the main male hero in my playthrough, I am the protagonist no matter what gender i am. Not all stories need a male and female lead. I am the leader. the end.

Tali can barely hold her own with Shepard helping her. She would be a terrible lead role and she would be dead like 4 times over if I hadn't saved her ass. Honestly though, if I must play along with this idea. EDI is the heroine of the story. She saves everyones life and she gets sh!t done!

The main heroine of the ME series is Ashley Williams for a male commander Shepard (even if she isn't my 'main Shepard's LI).

I say it from a writer's perspective.

First episode: Set up personality and develop it along with a relationship with the main character.

Second episode: Give some complications (however it was cut very short in the second game)

Third episode: Big reunion, some more perils, and then... well it either goes together or one of them dies.

This method is in use since Arwen and Aragon.

Let's face it: Tali is a side character. Even with her being in two games, Ashley is much more developed than Tali, Jack and Miranda together.
