Does the DLC that's both out and upcoming REALLY add replayability?

As the topic states does the DLC REALLY add replayability. I'm heavily considering trading ME2 because of this, that and boredom. Let's look at the current DLC. The Crash Site mission is pretty much throw away, not worth it's weight in XP. Zaeed adds one new character, thus another bonus ability to choose from, but the character is very static. He only has a loyaty mission and there is no conversation options between mission, you just activate things in his quarters and he tells you a story. The Cerberus Shotgun and the Arc Projector. They are weapons. They do act differently then others in their class but they in no way make the game change in any fashion, they just add more choice, something the Cerberus Armor barely does. It does give you something to choose from but I imagine that I an alot of people would rather have sets of armor pieces thus providing more customizability, both for appearances as well as stat optimization. None of those alter the way the game turns out just make it so there is more to choose from.

Now upcoming. Firewalker DLC. The HH looks quite cool, effects look great, but the most chalenging thing about it looks like the lava. Reminds me a bit of the Elite Power Armor Sections in FEAR 2, but not quite as fun. Sure a hover tank is cool and is proably fun to use but I personally find mowing down enemies into red mist and body parts with dual miniguns and rockets is cooler.

The thief character. Same thing as Zaeed but there is most likely a recruitment mission as well as loyalty so twice as much play time, hopefully there will be on ship dialoge unlike with Zaeed. But same as Zaeed other thn that, new character to use, new bonus power, same events.

Until there is post end game DLC the value added doesn't seem like that much. And besides by all appearances once you have access to the Network you have access, so getting the game used after owning it new and getting access to the network shouldn't be an issue.

I think that DLCs don't add much to replayability. However, an expansion can provide that. I hope that such an expansion will not be a kind of ME 2.5 that renders all current ME2 DLCs useless. I rather see a cool expansion with a great story that can be played at any time (before and after the main mission). DA:O's Awakenings went the wrong route IMO and made all older DLCs useless.

I would bet some dollars on the fact that there will not be a post-ending DLC comming out. This would be problematic with the whole thing with this being the second of three games, and some people having the DLC and some don't.

Having DLC that adds to the end of the game would not really add to the re-play value, it would add to the post-play value of the game. Re-play means you go back and re-play the game, not go back and play more.

I don't know, I know I'm not the only one that was inspired to make a Vanguard with the Cerberus Armor/Shotgun combo.

And I will finally get on my insanity run when after both the Hammerhead and Kasumi come out just so I can have one final, complete experience.

DLC isn't really meant to suddenly breathe new life into the game by a huge amount, or overhaul it into something fresh and exciting. It's small packages, and it's icing on the cake. That's why you don't need to pay for it. If it were something substantial it'd be actually more worth paying for.

Firstly expansion(s) have been mentioned. Expansions RARELY expand the period prior to the game, almost always after.

I don't know about Zaeed but all the other DLC that has come out, most likely the firewalker pack as well, can be played post game. You get the firewalker pack you most likely will be able to load up an post end game save and play those 5 missions without ever having to start a new game or go to an earlier save. That's why I'm saying the replay value is negligible.

Fallout 3 had re-playability, I've gotten every acheivement, and what not, and I still play it.

I also plan on playing ME2 alot, until ME3, or some other game.

A game is only as replayable as much as the individual playing it maintains interest. It is both an issue of the game's depth, as well as the player's attention span.

@mojoejojo
Making the Firewalker missions accessible only to new games is dumb, as dumb as making you start out again with no minerals and having to mine from scratch. You'd probably be complaining about it too if that actually got implemented, heck most of us would.

True about FO3 though for some reason I literally got a headache playing that game, think it was the color pallet. FO3 is also different in that it is open world, its an explorer's RPG, not the case with ME or ME2. It also had the magical subway that you travel from one area of the map to another very distant part of the map in a fraction of the time it would take above ground, assuming you could figure out how to navigate that labrynth.

I agree that would be dumb. Let me put it this way. The weapon and armor DLC adds more replay value than the firewalker dlc. The weapons and armor might be something you want to use with a character and go back and start anew to see how good they are, if you like them you keep using them, thus adding a reason to replay the game. The firewalker mission add no reason to go and start a new game.

Maybe not replayability but they make you want to go back and play it again even if its just to see what the free stuff is. Your probably get hooked again and play through again as you'll have forgotten how great the game is/was.

I've been holding off a second run-through for an unexpected reason - I loved the story and the role I played so much, that to do another run through choosing different options would somehow seem to cheapen it. I guess full credit to Bioware for that :)

I definitely plan to do further run-throughs though. Any new DLC will help in this regard, but I dont think new weapons and armour on their own would coax me back. A new character would, new locations would, new missions would. But it would still be nice to see some more weapons, costumes etc.

I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but the thing I would like more than anything else is a sort of social expansion. More banter with your comrades, more funny one-off missions like getting the doctor drunk, more interaction with your love interests, more dancing, drinking and socialising options, on ship and off. Anything that adds to the richness of the characters we know and love.

I'll get my coat...

First time I completed the game I did so without bothering to add ANY DLC to the game.

Then after doing that I installed all of them and I replayed the game just to see how it would be different with Zaeed+Weapons and Armor.

Hell I even replayed the game after the Eviscerator came out. It was really nice to have a good shotgun finaly.
