Kinda strikes me that Bioware is trying to make up for the lack of heavy weapons in ME1 by digitally drowning ME2 players with Heavy Weapons. Okay sure, they're great, but how about some new pistols or assault rifles? Taking into account the vanilla game with the Cerberus Network, we have

2 x Pistols
2 x Submachine Guns
2-4 x Assault Rifles (depending on game choice and difficulty)
2-3 x Sniper Rifles (depending on game choice)
3-4 x Shotguns
7 x Heavy Weapons

So basically depending on how you've played the game, you get nearly as many Heavy Weapons as you do for every other weapon type combined! At the very least there are twice as many Heavy Weapons as any other single type, even with the maximum.

Don't get me wrong, I love weapon weapons as much as the next person, but how about some love for the other weapon types?

NOTE: since a lot of people wanted to talk about weapon customisation, I'll direct you to this alternative thread on that very topic: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/103/index/1535260

Trouble is the heavy weapon can be used by every class, so everyone gets to use it straight off the bat. If they make one for another class people complain they cant use it for "their" class. But I agree they could make a few more for the other weapons, we did get one new Cerberus "shotty" so why not the others.

I think the problem is that it's hard to design guns that really feel different enough from another to really warrant DLC. For example, the SMG. It has two versions, the quick burst accurate version or the rapid fire inaccurate version. What other variations do you include that feel suitably different enough from the two to warrant it?

With heavy weapons they can kinda just get creative and throw in whatever they want, and since they are extremely restricted by ammo, there are fewer balance concerns. I'm not saying I don't want to see more regular guns in the game, but it's easy to see why there would be more heavy weapons.

I admit, with my collector version, I have 3 to 5 assault rifles, and I love them (collector assault rifle is great, my second favorite after Geth's one).
I also have 3-4 sniper rifles for the same reason.

But on the main point, I agree. The problem is quite simple. With Mass Effect 2, they choose to make every weapon different, what is a good idea. There is no "junk" weapon.

Now, it's a lot more difficult to make a new assault rifle, a new pistol, or a new sniper rifle. What would you change/add to it ? If it's about making all other weapons useless, it's not the point ...

edit : SurfaceBeneath who just posted above me says exactly the same. And in a better english :)

I get the point about Heavy Weapons being for all classes; they're all different etc. The thing is though, Bioware are creative enough to come up with 8 different heavy weapons (including the Blackstorm), so I'm sure they could be creative enough to come up with, for example, a third type of pistol.

And that's supposed to be a bad thing?

R+C weapons are awesome.

If you don't got new missions to use them, yeah it is. I have a phobia of restarting.

I haven't done a new game+ or started a new character, but I have like 25 save files throughout the game so I could go back and play with any new armor/weapon DLC.

Perhaps, but maybe the concept of a gun that shoots lightning was just WAY too awesome to put aside for now.

Not right now. I just played a week-long game starting from me1 + import me2, and just playing a single mission just drains me. I'll follow your advice next time.

Well the whole replaying thing is one reason I'm not playing ME2 again for a while. Gives me a chance to collect all of the DLC for ME2 so I can start a new game and not have to worry about going around again because something new has been released.

Seriously, atleast theyre giving you stuff FOR FREE. On a side note, I like having a mass of arsenal, I feel like a miniture tank with a butt load of weapons strapped to me :)...So...keep giving me more weapons bioware!

Though I would love a new pistol...Just dont make it look like a super soaker or something

Well, thank you Captain Obvious.

Seriously. I'd rather see new versions of other weapons, like SMGs or assault rifles. Maybe an assault rifle with a higer-damage single shot mode, or an SMG with higher damage or magazine capacity (heat sink capacity?) or something similar (just making stuff up off the top of my head). The new shotgun was nice, and I'd like to see more of it. Though I'll admit that the gun that shoots lightning is a good idea too. I think the developers are just having fun at this point.

I'd like a different Heavy Pistol which acts more like an SMG (think the Incisor, but in pistol form with the same limitations) as it has a burst mode... and that's one weapon everyone could use and hopefully be happy with.

not enough heavy weapon ammo. i've been playing like heavy weapon ammo grows on trees lately and it is a lot more fun. but sadly, it does not last long. need more hw ammo!

needs more ammo for my caniflex heavy pistol...and more ammo for the vindicator, ammo capacity upgrades for these two types of guns would be nice. also a nice single shot high powered low clip capacity assault rifle would be pretty sweet.

hell i would be pretty happy if i could buy more ammo at a store or something like that.

We don't need more pistols, apart from perhaps as remodelled M3s and M6s - ie, just cosmetic changes. Because, with all modifications and some skills, the pistols do very well. If we are going to have new weapons, I'd rather see a shotgun that doesn't have an effective range of 1 metre. The weapons we have do well enough - the reason the heavy weapons are so numerous is because it is easier to cram special effects into a big gun than into a small gun.

Same here about the replaying.
I am just collecting more DLC instead of doing replays.
All I can do is fiddle around with my current saves.

The restrictions BW has placed on weapons in ME2 make it easier to produce heavy weapons that fit with those restrictions. As others have said.

Well its simply harder to come up with new weapons that people would use.

sniper rifles: bolt action, semi automatic, anti materiel

submachine guns: machine pistol, submachine gun

assault rifles: assault rifle (auto), battle rifle (burst), LMG

pistols: low caliber (high capacity), high caliber (low capacity)

shotguns: low cap high power, high cap lower power, one shot powerful, extended range

Any new non heavy gun would have to find a niche in one of the those classes or would just be upgrading one of the already existing weapons to make it better (eviscerator). Either that or being a cross between already existing weapons. The only truely different weapon i could think of would be a high powered high recoil semiautomatic battle rifle (scopeless viper).
