I guess there is space left for a few weapons, but I agree with the people thinking each weapon should come with its own model.

A weapon I would love to see would be a batarian assault rifle that would be a middle way between Avenger and Revenant. More powerful than the avenger, but less accurate (but obviously less powerful than the Revenant).

The thing is, to me and I guess some of the other posters, the HWMP and HWMSR didn't play substantially differently from their I-X counterparts. They had different statistics but you'd still gun guys down with them the same way. I'm still playing through different classes but the assault rifles don't look much better.

The point being that the fine statistical details don't translate into gameplay changes. You just keep equipping upgrades over your previous gun. Sure, it might have -5 accuracy or -3 max shots for +20 damage. How much are you going to miss -3 max shots when you have infinite ammo and can slap additional heat sinks on it? The vast gun selection ended up being a sea of similarity that I progress through in a linear fashion. Exactly like how I progress through linear damage and gun upgrades in ME2.

However, in ME2, I actually play differently with the Vindicator and the Revenant or the Viper and the Widow despite them being in the same gun classes. People aren't going to count 10 Sniper Rifles in ME1 if they all work a lot alike.

Are there any guns on that list that say 12 shots before overheat or have a substantially higher ROF than any others? They're all 1.X-2 and they all work like the Mantis/Widow from my perspective. And, statistically below tier VII, Equalizers (Haliat of course) beat everyone else except for a couple points of accuracy vs. Naginatas. But even there, am I going to notice as a player the difference, at tier V, in 5 accuracy and 15 damage?

Why? I mean lets look at the real world for some examples. The M-16, M-4, HK416, M469/REC7 and a few others I'm missing have pretty much the exact same design, but are all different weapons. At the same time other weapons such as the brand new SCAR-L and old FN FAL have a very similar design. In the world of weapons there aren't a whole lot of big visual differences, the bullpup weapons such as the Steyr AUG and British SA80 look very distinctive.

Therefore, why would Mass Effect rifles have to look different? I'm not suggesting they should use the same model, but sure lets use the current Avenger model for all Assault Rifles, the current Vindicator for all Battle Rifles, and the current Revenent for all light machine guns. Easy! Just give them paint changes and you have your extra weapons - I don't think anyone is going to care too much.

I see your point Xpheyel but look at it this way - if the Vindicator had the same firing rate as the Avenger, would people not have the same attitude? It's an over-emphasis on visual or blatantly-obvious differences here. I'm not suggesting to add heaps of guns and make them all generic, but Bioware came up with 12 unique Assault Rifles in ME1, yet only 5 in ME2. Hell if we take out the LMG and Vindicator, then we only have three assault rifles in ME2. Even specialised shooters, like GRAW, have greater variety than that.
