This is old news since:
http://www.gamespot....249946&mode=all

Dragon Age Title TBA (consoles, handhelds, PC)

Too soon for a sequel (and I really doubt they'd make DA2 for handhelds too)
Considering there's also a ME game coming in Q1 2011 I say spin-offs
Either that or another expansion (but, most likely no, since it's also coming to handhelds)

the sequel will not be DAO 2. It'll probably be DA 2 + a new secondary title, but it will no longer be origins.

To clarify, yes It was a joke :P

I dont think sales for DAO2 would be so good on the kiddy system only.

Hoping it's another expansion. Perhaps something even larger than Awakening. A sequel can/should/must wait. :)

This was an EA announcement. I don't give it much weight.

I believe it has to be some kind of sequel/prequel. I mean, what else could be so important as to have it planned this far ahead? I know they have said they'd have two years worth of content or something, but still? Surely it couldn't be just another RtO-sized DLC they are promoting this early... Posted Image

Is that not pretty damn fast for a sequel? November 2009 - Feb 2011? Thats a bit more than a year. Considering they are redoing the entire graphics system (as articles have indicated) that would be quick. I would also hope to see some conclusions for our current characters from DA:O, as Bioware has basically said their intention isn't to have a Mass Effect like trilogy with the same character spanning each game...

Actually I would give it all the weight in the world as it is ultimately their opinion that matters...

If the game isn't ready, it isn't ready.

The 2-1-2011 definitely fits with EA's announcement of a new DA title first quarter of next year. I think the other thing to keep in mind is that while DAO came out in Nov. 2009, most of the game was really done back in March 2009 or so and then bug fixes and the console ports were worked on until the November release.
And in that time, we know that the DA team started work on Awakening, so I don't think its impossible that given how Bioware has a foundation for the DA world, they can't pump out DA2 by February 2011.
Even though Zeschuk said they were working alot on the technology of the game so that DA2 looks "super hot," I don't necessarily means they totally ditch the DAO engine for a sequel, but rather keep refining it, not unlike ME2 looking alot better than ME1.
So long as we don't get a hastily made or dumbed down final product, Bioware can release DA2 whenever they feel like it, IMO.

Frankly, I don't understand this.  The BIG thing about DA:O was the multiple origins and all their possibilities.  The expansion lets you continue with your old character.  ME2 also let you continue.  It is a GOOD thing.  Why ruin it?  I also heard of a DA2 in 2011.  I figured it would be like in LATE 2011, with maybe a second extension in Christmas 2010.  Extensions are cheaper, I would say, and the over two years between DA:O and DA2 would give EA time to do the job.

The good thing about BioWare is that their games give you freedom to do what you wish, to be what you wish.  Continuing with the same character is a big part of that.  To me.

yes keep playing in the with the same character is the best thing. i hated it in NWN in one of the addon packs yes you can play the same character but it removed all of your stuff at the start of the game not much point in using the same character then is there. I also hate add the are for level 5 players and so we need add on for level 20+ player do not think we get them.

well they said they had content for DAO for 2 years planned, so since it came out nov 09, we shouldnt see DA2 until november 11 which we can round to 2012 i guess? the mystery date MUST be either a new expansion OR just a day where they will make a major announcement

Whether it's an expansion or what not, whatever comes next I'd like to see some threads tied up (read: Morrigan) But even if it isn't, if Awakenings is as enjoyable as DA: O, I'm sure we'll all be happy!

it probably wont be an expansion because people will, from now til then, fill this forum with "OMG Awakening wasn't 90 hours, it was a ripoff at $40"

i for one hope for 5 years+ of back to back expansions, DLCs and advancements on the Dragon age Universe..

make it good and i will buy it all up

For me, it depends on how they would handle a sequel: I'm a self-avowed Morrigan fanboy, so I want some continuation with Morrigan and the Warden. Whether thats in a sequel or expansion pack, I don't care.

What I really hope for is a sequel that just picks up from the end of Origins, maybe with the Warden going to Orlais... unfortunately I think DA2 might just be some totally new character in some totally separate area of Thedas- probably will be neat, but dammit I want more of the Origins characters!
