First of all, let me say that I do not have a playthrough where my character allows the Alliance to keep Nerali's body.

In Me2 there is a news broadcast that Alliance recruitment have dropped because people do not believe that Alliance can match the Geth Technology.

I am wondering if people whose characters allow the Alliance to keep the body hear a different broadcast? Are any technological breakthroughs are made if Alliance keeps Nerali's body? Does the news boradcast about the state of alliance military change then?

I am contemplating this because I recall Devs once saying that some ME1 decisions will not come into play untill the final part of the triology. I'm curious if this desicion may be one of them. What if Alliance military isn't strong enough to thwart whatever threat is coming in ME3 due to lack of personnel? Combine that with the 'paragon' option of saving the Council, and Alliance is in seriously bad shape...  hrm.

The Devs also said key decisions from ME 1 will greatly affect ME2 and they don't.

I have one playthrough where I let the Alliance keep it and I heard the same broadcast.

Besides, whatever technology they may get from studying the body won't be available before years (ten? Can't remember)... That's what I recall that guy (forgot his name) said.
And unless the Alliance gets in a war with the Geth, it would be useless anyway.

I like to give people the benefit of a doubt :). I suppose I am also in the minority of people who actually found cameos and mementos of ME1 decisions fairly well done, and most of the letters a very nice touch.

Still, back to the topic: I am wondering if anyone is getting a different Alliance related recruitment statistic broadcast if they didn't force the issue with the return of Nerali's body.

Only thing I have noticed is on my playthrough where I let the military keep the body, I did not recieve a message from Semesh.

The whole thing is rendered moot by the fact that the Geth are likely just to give you whatever technology of theirs it takes to help bring the Reapers down.

Dire consequences ladies and gentlemen!

Well in the save editor only the "didn't give the body to the alliance" option is available to be checked meaning it won't affect anything in ME3

Haha so true! The biggest consequence of any decision for me was that Urdnot Wreav was such a tool. It really made me dig into my save games to find a male shep that recruited Wrex and kept him alive.

I received an email from Samesh saying "thanks again". This is one of the aborted side quest carry-overs from ME 1.

I've only heard that broadcast when importing from a save where I convinced Bosker to release the body. Any save where I've convinced Samesh to let them continue testing has not led to any such broadcasts.

I've never heard the broadcast either. All my playthroughs are from an import where I convinced Samesh to let the Alliance keep the body.

That's pretty much it.
I almost always let them keep the body... and well, there's no reward for it... perhaps in ME3.

Or it was just a way of saying; "Dude. Really?!" from BioWare...

If you release the body, a news report will say that colonial enrollment has been on the decline since the attack on Eden Prime because people feel that the Alliance isn't taking any counter measures to geth technology.

Wikia claims:

If the player chooses to return Nirali Bhatia's body back to her
husband, Shepard will receive an email at his private terminal from
Samesh Bhatia detailing his thanks. He mentions that he has opened a
restaurant that his wife had planned on creating when she eventually
left the military and as a token of his appreciation, all Alliance
personnel are welcome free.

On the other hand, if the player leaves the body with the
Alliance, the decision does not bear fruit within Mass Effect 2's time
frame. Even if new technology has been derived from studying the body,
Cerberus does not acquire it in time to help Shepard's suicide mission.

If you choose to release her body then all you get is an email saying "Thankyou for your help i am going to open a restaurant as my wife wanted to when she eventually left the military". (not exact words but this sums it up) Also a broadcast in ME2 says that less alliance personel have been recruited as a result of the alliances failure to come up with adequate defences to Geth technology. (again not exact words but is the gist of it)

If you choose to let the military keep the body then there is a higher sign up of alliance personel to face the geth due to the adequate defences against them. So basically you have 2 choices: The release option opens up a restaurant (presumably on Earth) which will inevitably be destroyed by the Reapers anyway. (one can assume there is a good chance Semesh will die along with it but i have no evidence to support this claim) The keep her body option will result in a higher alliance enrolement  versus the Geth along with better defences to their weapons. (which is also troubling because in ME2 there is very few confilcts between the Geth and humans and after the rewrite/destroy their is no confilct besides with the quarians which again do not seem to benefit from the technology in any way)

I suppose in the end i comes down to a decision of morality on either side which appeals to your Shepard's personality most.
