i have a genric pc which has these specs, AMD Athlon PHENOM 2 QUAD CORE processor, 4 gigs DDR2, NVIDIA Ge Force 9600GT graphics card, WINDOWS 7.

when i installed and played ME2 for th first time, at first there were no problems, then the game shuts down frequently, then the computer crashes sometimes,
even when i wasnt playing the game my comuter crashed.
i backed up my files formatted my windows harddrive and installed a fresh copy of windows 7, now the crashed happens less frequently, and happens only when i play ME2 as i tested my system by leaving my pc on for a day and i did not see an error message saying that "windows recovered from an unexpected shutdown".

which proves ME2 is the cause of the problem.

my borther installed ME2 on his Intel Core 2 Duo core process alienware laptop and he has similar problems.

will bioware please find a solution to this..

hm... the game runs great on my quad core, though that likely isn't the problem if your brother is having the same issues.

I have a quad core 3.6 I7 and the game runs perfectly without a single crash, and my pc is also an Alienware with the below specs:

Core Quad I7 3.6 Processor

12GB DDR3 Ram

Nvidia Geforce 250GTS Graphics

Windows 7 Proffesional

I would check your graphics card is'nt overheating As ME2 is a damanding game game and your card is on the low end of the scale.

My game runs 'stable' on my dual core windows 7 system, but since I upgraded from windows xp, all the load screens take -forever- unless I do the task manager affinity swap trick every time I load the game.

Soverain, you might have some faulty hardware or software, which was causing the problems along side the me2 crashes. By the way me2 might also be having issues with your 9600gt. What kind of graphics card does your brother's laptop have?

harrykim306, your 250GTS has no issues with me2 hense why you have no issues with the game. Older nvidia cards are having quite a bit of trouble, my 8500gt for example.

Destructo, did you leave your old windows xp files or format the drive? If you didn't format you might have some left over parts causing problems, so format the drive, reinstall windows 7 and me2 and you should be fine. If you did format then your computer is pretty weird, so try closing background applications and posting your specs.

Use MassAffinity, which does that automatically. OP, that is also the solution to your problem.

Try putting this in your gamersettings.ini which is in your:

"user"\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Config

You might have that setting already there with another value so change it to one

CPUNumLogicalProcessors=1

What does that tell you? It's hardware failure.

What's your video driver? There was a new driver recently that fries graphics card because of lousy fan control. Also please post your power supply specs.

Its on a totally new hard drive because the old one failed and was tossed out of my system. The operating system works perfectly off its partition, windows gives it a score of 6, and all my other games run perfectly. So it is unlikely there is a fault with the hard drive.

I have a dual core AMD 64 Athlon x2 installed on a Asus M2N-E motherboard which, I believe, runs off an N-force chipset. With 4GB of installed physical ram, a X-fi Xtremegamer sound card, and EVGA GTX 275 nvidia card.

The new hard drive is a 1 Terabyte SATA drive... replacing the original one which was a 250 GB piece of IDE junk. By all accounts, it should be running -faster-, but its not.

Unfortunately, since I changed two variables (operating system and hard drive) its difficult to tell which one is the root cause.

Running ME2 on a comp i built with the following:

AMD phenom II X4 955 (black box ed. @ 3.2 GHz)

Two NVIDIA GTS 250 (SLI config on MSI NF750-G55 nForce 750a SLI Socket AM3 MB)

8gb DDR3 ram @ 1333

Windows 7 pro (64bit)

Ran well the first two times i played ... now it wont play at all. Boots up, get to "press any key to continue" and then stops working within a few seconds. No idea what the problem is... no notice what the issues are.... I'm thinking its a windows 7 issue.... i hate this new op sys. REALLY HATE IT!!!! I miss XP Pro... only decent windows system since 98SE. Going to uninstall and reinstall... try again.

El-Destructo, smaller size drives/partitions/volumes are faster since there is less to search through.

I suggest you defrag your drive and hope for the best.

cj0nesy, try turning off sli and running the game again.

uninstall and reinstall did not fix the issue.

Disable SLI did not fix the issue... and if it did i would be beyond mad. After all-- why buy this uber-system designed to be an SLI gaming machine just to turn off SLI???

Set this in the nvidia control panel
SLI Performance Mode = Alternate Frame Rendering 2

Dont think its the game causing your crashing.
How is the temps on your 9600GT?
What PSU do you have hooked up?
Also are you using nvidia driver 196.75?

since i formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows 7 my pc only crashed when i play mass effect, i had none of my described problems before i installed and play mass effect 2,

my pc now runs better now that i formated my drive and reinstalled mass effect 2, i have sonsidered it, mass effet 2 is most likely the problem, i will also take other advice and check my graphics card and ower supply and my brother.s laptop.

Pentium 4 3.0Ghz with HT

2 GB Ram

149 GB WD Sata

Radeon X1650 512MB AGP PRO

Windows XP Profesional

it's maybe your windows 7 problem. mine already install win 7 on my pc but have to reinstall back to win XP because gameplay little bit laggy in win 7. i find that win XP more stable and never encounter any problem like crash or shutdown suddenly. also worth check your graphic card temp cause this too can cause problem. might also update your processor driver to the latest.

I have played and enjoyed every minute of ME2 on "casual" and "normal".
Crashes started on "veteran", "hardcore" and "insanity".
Game crashed to black screen, desktop and even BSOD with Windows dump generated.
Crash could be silent or accompanied by rattling sound.
Carshes occur at the time of very intensive combat in the Slum district, Zaeed loyalty mission on Zorya (the last warehouse with flamethrowers hanging from the ceiling), etc.

Here's my system specs:

Windows 7 x32 Pro
Phenom II x4 955 BE at stock speed 3.2 and 1.4v voltage;
Muskin enhanced DDR2 1066 4GB @2.0v;
System drive Corsiar SSD x32 30GB;
Application drive OCZ Solid2 60GB;
Video: Sapphire Toxic Radeon HD 4870 1GB no overclock;
Sound: HT Omega Striker 7.1;
Thermaltake 750W with 3x12v rails for PCIx video
on
GA-MA790GP-DS4 motherboard.

Windows 7 gives 7.4 for CPU, RAM and video and 6.9 for hard drive :-(

Always played in "full screen" mode (both ME1 and ME2) until yesterday when desided to test "windowed" mode after checking with the Forum.
Hardly noticed the difference on 32" HDTV in 1920x1080: the picture takes the whole screen. 1/2" borders are black anyway.
Repeated the "Zorya" mission on "veteran" and crashed to desktop few minutes after entering last warehouse fight.
Restarted and reloaded from auto-save.
Several minutes into fight the sound goes dead (Completely!) but the game goes on!!!!
Played until I got killed without any sound at all finally realizing that THIS IS A HARDWARE ISSUE but not the video.

Exited the game, removed HT Omega card, rebooted and enable on-board sound.
I do not have the crispy tremble and impressive bass but my crashes stopped (for now)
I was able to complete Slum district on "veteran" without a crash.
Will get back with more data after the weekend.

Hope some of you might get fresh ideas how to go around the problem.

happy gaming everyone!:crying:

Your sound card:

1) needs to be placed in another slot

2) needs fresh/new drivers

3) is on its way out

Go in order and if you get to three with nothing working then get a new sound card.

I heard creative labs works pretty good (though their drivers are wishy-washy at times)

Your computer might also be over heating which causes general hardware failure.

This is a well-known issue with dual cores and Windows 7. I also have it. Do like bann Duncan said and download mass affinity. I use it and it does the affinity thing for you. Load times decrease to 1/10th, especially between decks on the Normandy.
