Who else loves the walking bomb?

I found the best way to do that is have Shale use taunt and draw everyone at him. Plus, Shale can survive the explosion, due to his massive health.
Works everytime.
Anyone else uses the spell? And what tactics do you recomend?

And how can you not love it?

I have different tactics for using it, but one of them is having Morrigan cast sleep or waking nightmare on a cluster, then casting virulent walking bomb on the enemy in the cluster with the lowest health, and then hitting him with ranged attacks until he explodes, and spreads the love to his nearby friends.
Othertimes, I do what you do, except with Alistair, I have him taunt, and when the dog pile swarms him, I force field him and then throw out the walking bomb.
The spell is also great when cast after storm of the century. It's pure mayhem then, and the blizzard sufficiently damages and slows enemies to give enough time for the bomb to work it's magic.
What I haven't figured out, however, is what type of damage it does: nature or spirit. I've seen the description saying nature, but heard it does spirit damage instead.

Sounds like a cool strategy if shales constitution is high and the mages magic is high

The most common tactic is to aim for the weakest enemy on the battle field, inflict Virulent Walking Bomb, then use Crushing Prison. Relax and enjoy.

Do you used regular walking bomb or virulent? The strength of the spell is based off of your spellpower so is it safe to assume you have a pretty high magic?

I use both versions depending on the situation. My magic on my mage, without boosts from gear/specializations was about 50, so I ended up with quite a bit of damage going.

It does spirit damage. You can tell because the number is purple, and the different damage types are color coded-- spirit is purple, nature is green.

Thanks. I had wondered about that. Now I know next time I run through with my mage, I'll stop equiping stuff that increases nature damage, since she has no spells that do so. Also makes much more sense, given that it's part of the Spirit school, anyway.

Actually, only the DoT is Spirit damage, the explosion does physical damage.

I use both, depends on the situation. When I am positive that one explosion can't kill a horde, I use virulent in the hope others will catch the "virus" when it explodes.
High magic is almost always imperative when playing as a mage.
I usually assign Morrigan to heal Shale as well. Plus I put her on stoneheart mode. I am nto sure if her "aura" mode can resist the explosion however. I may have to try that.
I would cast forcefield on her, but I play on console and I have not yet figured out how to cast forcefield on an ally.
EDIT: Shale is a she, how did I forget that?!

This is probably a noob question but is walking bomb linked to a specialization if so which one?
No it isn't. It's in the spirit school.
