I personally thought I'd be bootcamping all the time since I went back to Macs just recently.... but oddly even though it's the easiest thing it's such a pain I barely bother, I've got a PC desktop... and I really just want to play my games natively. That (and the 50% off sale) is what compelled me to buy the mac version, I want to play it on the OS that I actively use! Not the bastard OS living on my hard drive for when I need it because I can't use Mac OS for some reason.

AFAIK Valve is doing side-by-side development now with at least the TF2/Half-Life/Portal series but I could be wrong. The way I understand it they want to support native mac software and I've got to say, the success of steam as a pay to download model may mean good things for others adopting this stance towards mac gaming. To put it shortly the steam announcement gives me hope, this could be the turning point Valve and steam in particular are so well respected and more importantly successful that if this decision goes well for them (as I believe it will) things could be looking up for mac gaming in general.

As for Dragon Age.... well it took them a couple months to say "hey look a mac version" last time so as for Awakening the future seems just as murky. I share your optimism about Dragon Age 2 at least though.

Never mind. Had to apply some Windows updates. It's downloading now. . .

Added that link for buying RtO it looks like with the Feastday DLC, RtO is now available via this page which allows you to buy it via the web instead of in-game. It's not necessary but it might make people feel less hackerish if they buy it and then install.

I haven't tried the Feastday DLC as I'm not sure I want to pay for it but I'm guessing it should work much like the other DLC, not sure it's worth a guide anyhow tho much less $3...

I hate to do this but I want to make sure people see this post before they think RtO isn't possible or they have to buy the PC version as well...

*bump*

Also what do people think about me petitioning for a sticky? I'm worried that they might decide the solutions we're posting violate the EULA or some other thing and delete it. I've got it backed up just in case but i'd rather avoid having to hash it out with BioWare or EA or whoever.

Go for it. The questions answered here really are frequently asked.

I went for it, sent a message to Victor Wachter since he just made a new post in this forum, we'll see if anything comes of it.

Expansion for MAC, should be in the forge, according to my correspondence with Transgaming, a few weeks back.

In the forge, huh? Not to be a party pooper or anything but since I'm saying this I guess I kinda am, anyway that's what Transgamaing said about RtO and patches for months now. I suppose we should be happy that they reply at all. I heard that some have contacted EA and BioWare about this but they got only silence. Then again, they might not have forgotten the Mac version completely since this section of the forum exist at all.

I know we're still waiting for the (supposedly) immanent 1.03 patch & DA:A, but has anyone tried to get the Feastday Pack installed, not unlike this community figured out how to get Return to Ostagar working on the Mac?

Hi everybody. After having problems playing DA:O with my radeon 4890 that is not supported by the game, I finally was able to play on my girl friend new Macbook pro.

So, in the excitement, I got the RtO after reading this post. All went well, I spended my points by going to the new location, and a new quest appeared. But the game started to run incredibly slow, almost not able to play. I decided to revert back and to undo all the steps one by one. BUT, the game is still slow, even while loading save from early game. So, barely unplayable, anyone know what happened, and how I can get back to a decent not-lagging-as-hell situation ? :)

Thanks

[edit] I launched DA:O, I saved again my game then quit, I removed files myself instead of letting modazipin doing it, and and restarted DA:O and loading the game everything is back to normal. But without RtO ... anyone can help me to make it run properly and know what happened ? When I say the game was laggy, but even the menu once a saved game was launched were terribly laggy ...

[edit 2] spoke to quick, lag was back after 1 mn, and it stays whatever I try to do, create a new character, relaunch the game, a.s.o. ... :( I cant play anymore this is way to slow to even move in a house ... :(

[edit 3] Another edit ;). I was playing with high video settings, and textures were just one step to high too. And that was fluid. Now, with my problem, I lowered settings to see if it resolved my problems, and, if I put everything on low, it starts to be better, but not as good as it was with high settings before I tried to install RtO ... I really need to understand what happened, because having done 60% of the game on high settings makes me just want to cry when I see it on low, seems uglier than baldurs gate 1 ;)

It is so unplayable, I reinstalled the game. Just kept my character folder and even thrown saved games exept last one. That dont change anything. The strange thing is that I was playing, quited, done the things RtO, launched the game, and my misery started just at this moment ... and nothing seems to revert it, as if my account was "crippled". Even with smcfancontrol and fans to the max, it doesn't change anything ...

Kinda desperate right know :(

That's really strange... though I will say the more you progress through the game, the more complex your saves get and the more prone to getting bogged down your system will get.

have you tried playing while not logged in? you should still be able to use your DLC but if you log out on the main page maybe that will help?

Otherwise I'm really not sure what to tell you, I've never had any problems like that but then I play with fairly low settings.

Also FYI to everyone I've given up on Awakening and so I check this forum less and less, if there's anything I need to change in the FAQ please send me a message and I'll come back and edit it, but I may not be checking threads as often.

I cant play while not logged, it started to tell me that I've content that need to be logged in (it wasn't doing that before). And it continue to tell me that even after uninstalling the RtO ... And look at my actual avatar, it's updated and bugged from the game !

The game kill my video card (nvidia 330m) and I've to put the computer to sleep then wake it up to recover fully functional video card after trying Dragon Age. After 2-5 minutes, my FPS is less than 3 on DAO now, so unplayable.

If I create a new game : same thing, so this is not because of complex saved game after a long play ...

I really need help here cant find it anywhere after days browsing the web ...

I'd delete the old game installation & reinstall from scratch (I know!) but not install ANY of the add on content. Start a brand new game, no extras, don't load your old save file. Put those old save files somewhere else so they don't interact with the new install in any way. Have a 100% clean install. Then see what happens. It sounds like something didn't get removed or the save file/character got corrupted somehow.

Done that, just zipped my bioware folder in user folder, throw away game & bioware folder, made a search for "dragon" didn't found anything, started a new game ... same problem ... so it happened at the precise moment I installed RtO, but it seems to have messed my computer ...

Next step seems to be reinstalling the OS wich I really dont want to do :(

[edit] reinstalled the system, same problem ...

So just to be clear. Do I have to install the Windows version to authorize the DLC I have installed in the Mac version?  It all shows up in the "Your registered game promotions" page.

Nope, as long as you manually install it it should show up as authorized. The only tricky bit for Mac is actually buying the content. If its in your registered game promotions then as long as you log in it should authorize just like on PC. If you don't manually install the content you can't download it from within the game however. You have to actually download it and install it with modazipin yourself.

you may want to open a support ticket with Bioware in that case as it may be an account issue. otherwise i'm not sure what to tell you :crying:

I did this, purchased the content, manually installed using modazipin.  It shows up on the promotions page, but is still unauthorized.  I have played for several hours since then and it still isn't showing up.  I purchased it with the same account I log into the game with. The free stuff works just fine of course.

I also have a new character that doesn't show up in the list ( I have 4 now).  So maybe that has something to do with it.

/sigh

I must say this is a pretty sad sack implementation of content.  Love the game.  Have begun to really hate how it's managed.  This makes EA/BioWare/Transgaming, whichever is to blame, look amateur.

OK I got it working. I have both RTO and the Feastday Gifts/Pranks installed and working. The ONLY addins I can't get working are the authorized giveaways you get when you create a character using the character creator on the PC. I did that, and uploaded a character (which eventually showed up in my online profile), but I haven't received the authorizations yet.

To install RTO and Feasday, it was superduper easy. Thank you to those who posted instructions. After understanding them, I simply:

1. Purchased the content, using my online account.

2. Installed content using modazipin.

3. Opened the AddIns.xml file (in TextEdit), which is located in ~/Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/Settings/AddIns.xml.

4. Searched for the only instance of 1.03 and removed the three so it looks like 1.0.

5. Searched for the only instance of 1.02 and removed the two so it looks like 1.0, making sure there isn't a space after the 0 in each case.

6. Saved the file.

As soon as I logged in I immediately got both Feastday codexes.

That's all there is to it.

For my strange nvidia 330m problem, I've contacted gametree support, they didn't found anything yet. If someone have the same problem as me, I found a workaround ! Launch the game, wait for it to start lagging as hell. Then just close your Macbook, with the game still launched. Open it back, play. When it starts to lag again, close it again ... do that a few times (between 2 and ... 10 ...) and suddenly, it will not lag anymore and will just keep performance as normal.

Be prepare to do that again next time you launch the game and it lag ... (will NOT happen at every launch).

Now, as everything started with my RtO install, I'm to scared to install it back ...
