Okay, I must REALLY need the layman's instructions - I just purchased RTO and followed the instructions but nothing is working. Someone plz help

Does it show up in-game in Downloadable Content and on this site in "Your registered game promotions"?

No. Someone already told me what the problem was. I needed to 'cntrl-click' in order to download the file. It was opening up in a browser window. I knew it must have been something as simple as that. Now, I have a much larger problem. I have no idea what in the hell I've done but it seems that after following someone's RTO install instructions I have somehow wiped out my entire DA:O.app

I am gobsmacked and have no idea what happened - all of my saves are gone and I need to reinstall the entire game; I am not happy at the moment.:?

Right. Now RTO shows up my Downloadable Content but I cannot access Ostagar - it is grayed out. Any ideas on why or what I should do now?

(a) have you completed Lothering?

(B) Is "Bann Loren's Land" (near "Lake Calenhad Docks") on your map? This is where the quest starts, not Ostagar. If it doesn't, you are missing the "Offer" part of the DLC. (see FAQ)

Marvin_Arnold - My apologies, I only posted in both areas so my chances of getting a response would increase. This is the problem I am having with the RTO Offer file, I have downloaded it with the .dazip extension but Modazapin will not install it (it did with the RTO files themselves). I don't want to just drop the file into the Offers folder as it is. I have have re-read all of the manual instructions but am still stumped at this point. This is a huge pain in the ass for a $5.00 Mod.

Edit: Yes, Lothering is complete.

This is where I am having difficulty: I believe changing the .dazip to a .zip:

For the Offer part you need to copy manually. First change the file extension on DAO_PRC_OCP_1_1.1.dazip to .zip and extract it. Inside the folder that's created is a Manifest.xml and a Contents folder. Open up the Contents and then the Offers file and copy of the dao_prc_ocp_1 folder inside to Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/Offers/ Now you need to copy over the Manifest.xml. Open up Manifest.xml and select everything between (but NOT including) to . Now Copy that and open up Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/Settings and open the Offers.xml file. Scroll all the way to the bottom and find the line that says hit enter, then paste. The final two lines should now be and then if it doesn't don't save and try copying and pasting again. Search for tags as in Step 3 and do the same edit. Save Offers.xml

It seems the bioware site deleted everything with angular brackets, which makes the instructions impossible to read. (IKEEELMAAAAAAAAAA!!! Sorry, a Flintstone moment...)

Here's the solution:

Go to the FAQ thread (you're currently soaking in it, actually), and, starting from Ikelma's exhaustive FAQ, scroll down until you reach a post by "eleve". (14th post on the first page) There's the description WITHOUT the brackets missing! There's a paragraph for Addin install, and one for Offer install. You are messing with xml, so make backups of the files you edit, read the instructions carefully, and and be careful what you paste/delete.

This should definitely work now.

So, following the instructions here I successfully installed RtO and the Feastday gifts/pranks (thanks everyone!).

I had a go with Darkspawn Chronicles, and that installs and loads quite happily, but... I don't have the Enthrall talent, and the first specialisation is also blank.

Has anyone else tried DC? To what success?

It may be (and I am just guessing) that that DLC actually does require some of the changes from the latest patch, so changing the version will make it load but not load properly since there is no way to patch up to parity with the PC from the mac version.

I'd also like to point out that Jhime released an update to Modazipin which significantly streamlines this process, when i get some time I'll write an addendum to the FAQ but RtO at least should be plug and play with modazipin now.

Anyway, back to the shadows with me :P

PS. I did a cursory look and the FAQ looks the same to me, again when I get time i'll take a look again...

I have some questions that are answered in the first post but because it has been 2 months since the last update I'm still going to ask them, I don't own a Mac so I will probably look really stupid. ^^'

I have persuaded a friend of mine to buy DA:O, but he wants to play it on his Mac and apparently the Mac version is not that 'up to date' as the PC version, so here are my questions.
- Site says that DLC is not available as a seperate download, so the DLC that come with the Deluxe Edition work and is the install the same as for the PC version?
- Patches for the Mac do not exist?
- Are there some major issues with the Mac version of the game or does the game work 'alright' without the fixes that the PC version gets?
- Mods that go into the override folder and .dazips are working? (I know that the .dazip has to be made .zip)

YES, it works but NO, you do not have to install extra DLC. It is included with the Deluxe download version.

- Patches for the Mac do not exist? Correct, there are NO patches for the Mac Deluxe download version of Dragon Age: Origins. Or any other DA I am aware of.

- Are there some major issues with the Mac version of the game or does the game work 'alright' without the fixes that the PC version gets?
Works for me. Mac Mini OSX10.6.4 and the NVIDIA GeForce 9400 (although my game settings are on low and I installed SMC Fan Control to increase my fan speed to compensate for graphics issues.)

- Mods that go into the override folder and .dazips are working? (I know that the .dazip has to be made .zip)
Use MODZAPIN to install .dazip files. Works fantastic. http://social.bioware.com/479306/
Be sure to read the mod's instructions and comments regarding conflicts and bugs. However, some mods do require you to copy the mod's folder to the override folder. Read the instructions for the individual mod.

I have been getting a number of mods from here and dragonagenexus.com. If they work, great. If not it's easy to uninstall. Amazon Curves :innocent: for example.

I have been running DA:O on my iMac since its release in December and it works very well. My game only crashes on very rare occasions (almost never, really), I have a plethora of Mods and they work just fine. I have installed the lasted version of Modazipin and I have also been able to purchase, install and play the RTO DLC. I am very pleased with my MAC version and still refuse it run it via Bootcamp.

Still refuse to run bootcamp +1!!

I've been wanting to play Return to Ostagar also. Where did you get the file?

I purchased RTO then used the new version on Modazipin to install the game and offer files.

Files are here: Return To Ostagar Offer file for Return To Ostagar. In Safari you might have to hold the option key when clicking the link to down load the files instead of displaying them.

I really recommend that you download and install them first, and test play the offer part, before purchasing (not not waste the money).

You can find more dlc here: http://dragonage.wik...oadable_Content

@Jhime

Thank you for info. Too late already bought it but haven't installed it yet. Maybe today.

@csmayer

I got my copy of DA:O about 3-4 months ago from gametreeonline.com . $40. It took about 3 hours to download. 16GB or so.

 Return To Ostagar is "disabled."

I downloaded the two files from the links supplied by Jhime a couple of posts above. I used the latest version of MODAZIPIN to install both files.

But the downloadable content lists RtO as "Disabled" and says "Missing Requirements." The info section indicates, "Required Game Version 1.02"

Any thoughts on how to fix this? Do I have to go back to page 1 of this FAQ and follow the instructions for editing the file?

All you have to do is open Modazipin. It will show you the mods you currently have installed just click on the check box for the mod or addon you are trying to use. If it already has a check mark uncheck it and then click it again. It will tell you that:

this mod requires game version 1.03, but you have 1.01.9364.3317. Override the required game version check?

Click override and that should then allow you to play Return To Ostagar.

Hope that helps.

I followed your instructions and my map is updated with two new locations. I'll be travelling there as soon as I protect the Village of Redcliffe from their nightly attacks.

Thank you for your help.

Ok, this is starting to drive me nuts. Where are the Mac Patches!?! I keep getting redirected to the .exe 1.0.4 or whatever version, which when downloaded does nothing. I'm so frustrated right now. Especially since I just purchased the new DLC's and they don't work without the 1.02 patch...

When I open the game, it tells me there's a new patch.  I tell it to DL it, then part way through I get the mesasge "Some of the files have been modified!  Please re-install".  I didn't modify anything, why doesn't this work?!

So, what about modding on a mac?

I realized we don't get the modding toolset, but i've managed to do a little modding on earlier Bioware RPGs.

Is it possible to open the .ERF files to edit for instance the textures?  If so how?

I am unsure what you mean by "getting redirected to the .exe 1.0.4 or whatever version." If you are trying to download the patch manually from http://social.biowar...page/da-patches you are downloading the latest PC Dragon Age patch 1.0.4. Which is why it isn't working. The mac version is 1.0.3 and can only be download, as far as I know, when you start up the game.

As to the message you are getting when you start up the game and start downloading the patch, the only thing I can think of is, have you moved the game from where it was originally? That could cause some problems. If not, more then likely, you are going to have to reinstall your game. Sorry:unsure:

Well the only legal way to get the actual files is to buy and download through direct2drive, gametree etc. the files themselves are available out on torrent sites and such if you look for them though again where this falls on the EULA/legal front is sketchy. There have been reports though that at least older PC keys do not work to unlock the mac version, even if you do get the mac cider wrapper and files. So you could try, but by no means is it guaranteed and I won't point you anywhere specific as there's plenty of ways to find it on google.

In any case I'm going to update this FAQ soon, hopefully including a way for people with bootcamp/a pc and the PC version of awakening to get Awakening working on mac. as well as incorporate the other changes. Sorry for my long absence you can blame Starcraft II :P

Good to see you on the forum, ikelma. Your original FAQ post has been corrupted in the "installing RtO" section, so it now reads:

Open up Manifest.xml and select everything between (but NOT including) to .

etc. on similar occasions with brackets.
Since you are the only one who can edit it, could you restore the original version? (You can use eleve's second post on that page (I think #9) for reference.
Thanks a lot!!
