I need some help, I recently tried to run mass effect on my laptop with windows 7. I have tried all of the fixes( running as admin., disable realtek device, downloaded the updates, etc.). I can get the game to launch but the graphics are super grainy and I end up getting a black screen and a message of jargin saying that certain files are not found. Can ANYONE HELP!

What are your system specs and what are the contents of the error message?

The display adapter is Intel ® graphics media accelerator HD, with an Intel® core i3 processor. I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled it, I have run the compatibility program, and I have downloaded the latest update for the game. However, I did try to download the BDTS package and every time I give the installer the key that was given to me from bioware, it cancels the installation. When I try to start the game it launches but then the screen goes black and I get an error message that is quite lengthy but is pretty much saying that certain files cannot be found. I have since uninstalled the game again, If you would like for me to install again so that I can copy the error message I will, but is there any other help you can give me without knowing exactly what the error message says?

and I quote EA's answer to me (which still pisses me off). Mass Effect does not support a 64-bit operating system. They should make it compatible, but I guess they want to lose our business. OH WELL.

WELL, that bites a big one. I am uninstalling game and will WAIT for EA to come up with a compatibility update. Please tell me someone at EA is working on making this game work with win 7/64.

ME runs fine on W7 x64.

The first possible problem I see is your graphics card - Intel GMA cards are... well, they aren't designed for gaming. I am also pretty sure that they are not supported by the game.

That said - you have installed multiple times yes? Have you run the installer as Admin each of those times?

EA won't support anybody trying to get Mass Effect to run on a 64 bit operating system. Doesn't mean that the game can't run. It runs fine on my Windows 7 64bit machine. Its still a 32-bit game after all and Win 7 64bit can still run 32bit apps. Generally the problem with getting ME1 to run on 64bit is usually drivers or system specs.

I also have quality issues with ME1 on Windows 7 64 bit (was running just fine on XP 32 bit before). But the weird thing is that ME2 runs perfectly. My system is newly put together, so I have no issues with hardware or drivers. Though it's not a perfect solution, I found that messing with the graphics settings helped quite a bit to reduce lag in ME1.

Intel ® graphics media accelerator HD... seriously?

Come on! There must be a catch.

P.S.

64 bit or not... You have to kick Microsoft's balls for x86/x64 compatiblity issues. After all, they provide the Windows On Windows 64 subsystem that runs 32 bit applications, not Bioware... The next problematic party is the operating system user, screwing it up, then come the OEMs, but then it's nVidia/ATi, then someone else (whoever is inbetween writing Windows 7 code and you clicking the game's icon, heh.

so what your saying is that win 7 will play the game, it is my graphics card that needs to be upgraded. Any suggestions?

Geforce 8600M GT would be the bare minimum (notice the "GT"). Because I happen to own a close equivalent (Quadro FX 1600M) that's been collecting dust since a few years ago, but at that time ME1 was working at medium just fine with it.

thanks for the advice, I am new to the pc gaming world, I purchased ME1 because I own a PS3 and have allways wanted to play ME1. I recently bought this laptop to replace my home PC, and when I bought it (silly me) I thought that it would run the game. Again thank you very much for your help.

I got the game to run on my 64 bit win7, but it's super slow. Takes 15 minutes to go from "Press any Key" to "main menu".

Once the game FINALLY loads...it'll take me anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes to take one step.

I'd appreciate some unofficial fix, workaround, or jerry rigging to get this great game running.

@ Venari, once again we need system specs.

ME1 does work on win7 64-bit. I haven't tried this, but try running in compatibility mode.

The most frequent cause of problems with ME1 running on win7 64-bit is either the graphics card, or system drivers being out of date. Update as many drivers as you can to the most recent ones out.
