Ok, so yeah, I'm a girl. I worked very hard to romance Alistair and worm my way to becoming queen, and I had a lot of fun doing so. I was very pleased with the way the story unfolded, and it added SO much to the game for me.

I'm so disappointed that  the romance won't carry forward, apparently. I really, REALLY hope that I'm still queen and I'm just going on a little adventure while he's back home running the kingdom (as a good man should). I could accept that, I suppose, although I'll miss the warm nights all snuggly by the fire.

Anyway, just wanted to post my disappointment. The story in DAO was awesome, but the personal interactions brought it to a whole new level.  *sigh*

See it as a temporary break from the romance plot, and a focus on a emerging threat that needs your immediately attention. I'm sure romance will return in other dlc/expansions/sequels.

There are going to be interactions. Just because romance isn't included doesn't mean you can't talk with characters or whatever. And look at the glass half full. The romance doesn't carry forward but it's not being removed entirely.

it's obviously a mistake cutting romances out of the game, those character relationships made bioware games unique among other rpg games. (that's why i can't stand playing bethesda rpgs).

asari, that last comment was poor. I love both rpgs but bethesda is far superior in terms of choice in gameplay and exploration.

As long as the characters interact with each other in this with full dialog options and a heavy character bio story i am happy. Romance is a option, but they are very sloppy with the sex scenes and it makes the game terrible watching people rub each other up in full clothes. If your going to do a sex scene do it right (both sexes should be naked).

This is why bethesda has done good, because it knows if it did a sex scene they would end up in the same bad situation with people making love in clothes and boots.

I'm more annoyed over being unable to romance the new charecters, i know Bioware has acknowledged the party interactions were a big hit with fans and they were going to do more of that with awakening (various interviews with them, go look em up if you haven't :P)

So i'm glass half full as well, should at least be entertaining with the group chatter and Alistair is still in awakening so i'd really hope you could chat with him bout all the fun relationship goings on, i can't see Bioware screwing that up at least (they mostly screw up DLC)

lol and yes Bethesda rpg's are very lonely

Its been said that we dont have time to romance, Awakening is too short on the timeline to experience a romance and maybe too intense, like the warrior aint got the time to flirt.

Warrior to Lady: "I would romance you but maybe after the Artichect and all its minions are dead!"

There's a romance in the game. It's just a Bad Romance. (RAH)² (AH)³ + (RO MA)² MA + (GA)² + OOH(LA)²

Be happy you get Alistair! Neither of the male romances are likely to have even a cameo. *Sniff*

I really hope we will at least get a cameo from Leliana. Morrigan is out of the question I suppose...

SPOILERS:

Anyways, much like with Mass Effect it would be hard to let you continue a romance when there is a possibility that the romaced character isn't even alive in Awakening (depending on how your individual playthrough went)

I'm sure that people will release mods that allow you to romance your new companions in Awakening.

Well, the interviews I looked up (which were with the head of BW late last year) said they would be expanding on the romance and relationships side as they wanted us to become more emotionally engaged with the characters. Sure, doing more of the party interactions is good, but it's not going to achieve that kind of immersiveness on its own. Origins was said to be just a step on the road to achieving that vision, so I'm thinking the expansion may be just a side-step off that road and they will get back on course again soon.

As for the sex scenes with clothes on, yes that was a bit ridiculous but that's a reason for doing them better next time as long as they are shown in a loving way and in context. They shouldn't be afraid of doing them better in a 18+ game which in any case is full of gore and killing, just because of the fear of some sensationalised media report or some so-called moral crusader; particularly if romance is going to be part of the future. You can see more in several lesser classified movies.

You know, I loved the romance options in the game, but I really don't see that the sex scenes need to be any better or, for that matter, very revealing at all. The scene in ME was fine, stylized and suggestive of what was happening without being too revealing. I agree that some kind of cut scene is a nice pay off in the relationship, but if I wanted pornography I could go to any of a hundred free sites on the net. The emotional investment is what is most important to me.

I stopped reading your post as soon as you mentioned pornography because it then killed your message. This is about immersiveness and has nothing to do with pornography.

I can't speak for everyone, but with me the sex scenes didn't matter, but the whole romance aspect and getting the girl (or guy) was what added to the game. Although the sex scenes were cheesy and fun to laugh at

Some of us can get immersed in a game without having a virtual girl/boy-friend. The romances didn't add much to the game imo (except Alistair I guess since that could have major effects on the story). The party interactions however did add alot and since that is still in the game, I'm satisfied.

I think it's about different levels of immersiveness, so if I remember right (I must read again), he did allow for some people not needing/wantingto become as deeply involved in the characters as others; in other words, there would be choice, so you wouldn't be forced into the romances if you didn't want to be.

I think also the romances aren't just about having a virtual girl or boyfriend. There's a lot of interreaction to be had in the romances in Origins without going that far.

For me, this looks like Bioware making a step back instead of using the opportunity they created with DA:O and take the relationships in their games one step further.

'The romances didn't add much to the game' maybe to you, but for many people this was a major point in the game which attatched them to the character and the game, yes the party interactions were a big part, but no bigger a part than the romances if you chose to play the game in a romance.
