Primarly Ulysses (struck as depressing him getting separated from wife and kids for years. ) Or Porcia Catonis, one of Julies Ceasers assassins that killed herself by swallowing hot coals(Or so one theory goes). Or pick from any mythology story you want, a goddess bargaining for eternal life for her lover, only to get her wish. However the person doesn't receive eternal youth, so is damned to suffer.

Anyhow that's what I can think of off hand, posting while on pain meds is fun. Darn migraines.

I liked both those storys and Pandoras Box. It is hateable story but i liked it.

He kills Satin? What did fabric ever do to him? :P

Also, I kind of liked Romeo and Juliet. Cheesiness aside.

Not all stories have happy endings. We like to think that if we died, the person we loved would find a way to be happy without us. Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen. And I think Leliana committing suicide after that is very much in character for her. However, it would also be in character for her to return to the Chantry, take vows, and help people.

Well, I'm glad they didn't include that romance crap in this one. I honestly don't see the attraction. The romances made the companions involved far less interesting to me.

I would much rather they spend their development time on more quests, more keep upgrades, more companion dialogue, anything other than romance.

finally!! someone who understands. instead of having all that romance bull****, they coulda added some guild quests ,sorta like elder scrolls, and make the game longer. Most of the side quests were total crap.

As i said i was joking with Leliana and i meant to say Satan as in the Devil/ the Usurper/the Fallen Angel.
Well if you see the character of Dante he might have killed Satin to for making him walk through hell barechested with only a red holy cross painted on his chest.

Dont start saying things like this cos people will start to call you a troll and this whole thread will suddenly dedicate itself to insulting you and not listen to anything you say back. Then we will have wasted a perfectly good thread.

I happen to like depth in my games. Maybe you don't but when I pay money to be entertained I want my money's worth.

Its not 2000 anymore, its 2010 and the gaming demographic has changed. GET USED TO IT or go play some shooter, since you can't seem to grasp what depth is.

Once again Shooters can have depth. MW2 = betrayal, all your friends die etc. Just sticking up for the shooters here.

Oh ho ho, someone has a different opinion then you, they must be ( a child ) ( an idiot ) ( retarded ) ( not really an RPG player ) ( all of the above )?

Romances added very little to Biowares games, and in fact have detracted from recent RPGs.

There, I said it.

Bioware games have always been about deep in depth characters, interesting plots, and plottwists, hard choices, and lots of character/group development, all of which can happen very well without romance, as shown by Alistair and male PC's becoming for all intents and purposes "bros" despite not being able to go behind the tent and get busy.

You want to know whats bothersome? After DA:O came out, not a single person on my rather large friends list or at work wanted to talk about the choices, they didn't want to talk about how hard it was to choose Alistair or Anora as leader, or to choose to let Loghain live, they didn't want to talk about the epic sacrificial fight against the Archdemon, they wanted to talk about how they banged Morrigan, and how it finally made them a man, all my female coworkers would only talk about Alistair, and the second you tried to bring up the Loghain choice, it wasn't a choice, it was about Alistair, their sudden new love interest.

Its the same with Mass Effect 2, after it came out, all everyone could take about was Tali and Garrus, yeah, they are great characters, but there is also a game under there, and it was actually quite fun, yet nobody wanted to acknowledge it, or any of the choices they had mattered, it got to the point you could have labeled ME2 as a dating sim, and it really would have fit quite well. I started asking gamers I work with/meet at work, and all they talk about it how through the entire game, all they could focus on is the Tali romance, as they heard on some forum she was romanceable, nobody cared about the plot, or the actual other characters besides Garrus, no, it was I have to finish these quests so I can romance Tali, OH YEAH I AM A MAN NOW.

Romance subplots should not be overriding actual plot, game development, choices, or really any other part of the game, they are minor ****ing subplots for christs sake, yet just look at these forums, or /v/, or really any gaming forum about the fact there will be no romances in Awakening because Bioware wants to put more work in to the small new team they've made, a team that I believe they said they want to be the new Warden team similar to Garrus/Tali, since the old team was mainly just there to kill an Archdemon, and all everyone can talk about is how they can't screw Alistair, or Leliana, and can't party with them, and thus its going to be an abyssmal terrible failure because those things won't carry over.

What?

Maybe Bioware should just drop the whole RPG developer thing, and just switch to making Dating Sims, according to these forums, they'd retain 90% of their fanbase, as their fans don't seem to care about choices, or actual plot development as long as they can chase after their pixelated love interest, and they'd probably make more money that way in the long run.

asari, that last comment was poor. I love both rpgs but bethesda is far superior in terms of choice in gameplay and exploration.

As long as the characters interact with each other in this with full dialog options and a heavy character bio story i am happy. Romance is a option, but they are very sloppy with the sex scenes and it makes the game terrible watching people rub each other up in full clothes. If your going to do a sex scene do it right (both sexes should be naked).

This is why bethesda has done good, because it knows if it did a sex scene they would end up in the same bad situation with people making love in clothes and boots.

Your comment is poor.

There's nothing superior about Bethesda vs BioWare, they just do make a different kind of gaming experience. Bethesda doesn't have ANY romance let alone even try to do love scenes, they can't even bring themselves to incorporate child models in their games something players have done themselves and loved since Morrowind.

As for the sex scenes, just get Bethesda games on the PC, mod and problem solved unfortunately because it's player made and not done by the company many of these mods aeren't what I'd call tasteful, some are... But don't say it doesn't exist or it isn't wanted,, clearly it is and I much appreciate BioWare giving an effort over simply refusing like Beth does.

Oh, please. The romance gimmick in DAO was not depth. It was, by far, the most shallow aspect of the game.

WTF? I don't agree with your personal tastes, so you question my desire for entertainment and accuse me of hating change? Does that even make sense in your head?

You keep bringing up the year and the demographics. What difference does that make? Demographics don't change my personal preferences.

If anyone does feel the urge to call me a troll, I suggest they scroll back and see who was posting about the topic and who was posting about other posters.

Get used to it? I suggest you get used to the idea that there is no romance gimmick in Awakening.

I get the point you are trying to make, but at the same time I think you're kind of missing the point of why some people like the romance aspect. i don't think anyone wants the romance to be the main focus of the game. They just don't want to see it gone. I have to agree. It added to the game for me. Will I I still play Awakening? Sure, but at the same time I'm going to kind of miss the aspect of the romance.

And this part isn't directed at you. But I'm just as tired as seeing the "Haha get a boyfriend/girlfriend replies as people are of the "WHAT!? No romances?"

soo the handling of sacrificed characters is a prime example for plot development? or the choices i make are only relevant as long as they concern strictly business?
and the whole dating sims thing is ridiculous. when it's all about choices and rp, then i  should be allowed to say that i dislike the cuts in my pcs personal story without being stigmatized as a twelve year old girl -.-

It is really as simple as this....those of us (myself included) will take a big pass on this (Fox News approved Sexless...But LOTS of Violence!!! :) !!!) "expansion" and wait for a proper one and those who are uncomfortable with scenes of emotion (other than fear or hate)...can just Dig in....

I am glad for all the MODS at NEXUS...if THEY could fix this I will entertain buying but only then.

This!
I have started learning the tool set, but it is not quite as easy to use as the Oblivion/Fallout toolset. Going to take a while for me to do anything I think. Still, I hope some modder will take up this quest!

Would you rather the people of a small fishing village know the happenings of the Brecellian Forest, down to an absolute tee? Or how about they are all so well versed in the politics of the world they know exactly what happened at Orzammar, even down the the fact you sent a Dwarf to the Chantry, oh yes, I'm sure those poor peasant fishermen know all about the former Gray Wardens exploits, every single one of them.

Or how about we add some cameos there to, why not make it so the cameos that would normally appear for a surviving Warden also appear for a Orlesian, because you made the sacrifice, would they make you feel better because people recognize your choices? Oh hi, you should remember me, I'm Jowan, the mage you saved on your previous save! THANKS A BUNCH, HERE IS SOME STUFF.

None of the choices in the first game mattered enough to carry over, besides small cameo stuff, no matter what you did, you ended up saving the Mage Tower, gained allies from Brecellian, solved the Dwarves problems, and saved Redcliffe, you also restablished royalty, why would the Orlesian Warden be dicking around with Alistair or Anora, or even be talking to them, he is there to rebuild a castle, and find out what happened, not write a book about a dead person?

Some people are so busy stressing over minor **** it amazes me, "OH NO, I CAN'T ADVANCE MY ROMANCE? THIS IS THE BIGGEST DEAL IN THE GAME, I CARE NOTHING FOR PLOT OR CHARACTER, I CAN'T HAVE ALISTAIR MY WORLD IS ENNNNNDING'. "OH NO, PEOPLE DISLIKE AN ORLESIAN, AND HE DOESN'T GET TALKED TO BY THE ROYALTY, HOW DARE THEY REMOVE MY CHOICES, DESPITE THE FACT NOBODY WOULD KNOW THIS ****, I DEMAND YOU ALTER WHAT PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW SO I GET PROPER RESPECT!"

oh what about "WHY SET IT UP LIKE THAT WHEN YOU HAVE NO INTENTION TO FOLLOW UP WITH IT? WHY MAKE AN EPILOGUE THAT YOU BETTER IGNORE UP UNTIL THE DAY YOU KNOW WHAT THE FOLLOWING WILL BE? WHY MAKE IT ALL FEEL TERRIBLY MESSED UP BY TREATING CERTAIN THINGS LIKE THAT?"
see, i can scream and be reasonable the same time. and your "examples" are poor.
