I started a new warrior today and I wanted to know if there's a good DPS build that allows me to use a Sword and Shield, for in my opinion it's the best looking warrior weapon type. Any tips on where to put my stats and abilities would be very helpful.

If you're looking for DPS you're kinda shooting yourself in the foot by taking this tree...

But I suppose you hsould stack as much strength as possible with just basic dexterity requirements. Make a beeline for assault as the four activated talents will be your primary way of dealing damage.

Berserker spec is a no-brainer.

You'll probably want to stay away from shield wall too, a great sustainable for tanking at the cost of damage.

Do you think I should go with 2handers or duel-wield then? I just started the character so I can easily start over.

Dual wield warrior for damage, though you can build somewhat for damage with a sword and board character using critical damage gear since some of the shield talents do generate crits if it strikes someone.

Leliana, and Shale both have aura effects which boost damage and crit chance also and Morrigan can provide the hexes, and +10 frost damage on weapons.

Yes, either of those would be better suited to a damage build.

Well, there is little doubt that dual wield is the best for raw damage, in fact, but two-handers also have nifty tricks and may feel more warrior-y to you.

On the other hand, there are two companions that are pre-specced for a two-handed build, only one with sword and shield and no warrior dual wielding, so depending on who you want to take with you, your PC may become redundant.

42 str, rest in dex, single wield a dagger, and get two mages in the party to stack haste.

Ugh, I still just can not bring my warrior to wield a dagger. Plus the max dex + 42 strength is 100% boring to play. Non of your special talents work because the resistance is based off strength. S&S is boring enough, it does not need any more help in that dept.

^ lol if you think about this another way. Going dex means your actives deals less and therefore you need use more of them.

Er, whoops, sorry about the repost. I copied that to post in my browser window and deleted all my text!

Still, you're more tank + off DPS than DPS + off tank.
