This is a first attempt at a fanfic, based on my character Konrad Cousland, and what I think he would do, and how he would of changed through the story. I'm very much open to constructive criticism, specially since I don't write much and it should hopefully help me improve.

Chapter 1
A cold wind was blowing along the Imperial Highway forcing Konrad to pull his cloak tightly around his shoulders, it was a lot colder then what he was used to in Highever, even with the winds that would come in from the coast. Looking to his side, Konrad saw Garm, staying close to his master, the mabari was a loyal friend and Konrad could not think of anyone he would rather have more then him by his side at this moment, besides his brother, Konrad dreaded meeting his Fergus when he got to Ostagar, telling him of the deaths of his wife and son.
“Are you alright?” a man asked ahead, Konrad looked up to see Duncan who had stopped a few metres ahead, the man did not seem to notice the cold and did not have a cloak, but it seemed Konrad had been lagging behind. Duncan had just recently recruited Konrad to be a Grey Warden, though not under the best of circumstances. He had joined the wardens out of his father‘s wish to see him live. “We can stop for a small rest if you wish,” Duncan said. Konrad came next to him, “No, I would rather carry on,” Konrad replied. Duncan nodded and restarted their trek towards Ostagar.
A number of hours later, saw the grey ruins of Ostagar, as they moved further in, Duncan gave a brief history of the old fortress which Konrad had little interest in listening to the Elder warden, he was tired and hungry and wished to have the journey at an end.
“Ho there, Duncan,” a cheerful voice said. Konrad looked up to see a man with long blonde hair, it took a second for Konrad to realize who it was, snapping to attention Konrad looked on as Duncan and king Calian greeted each other.
"King Cailan! I didn't expect a…"

Cailan had a warm smile on his face and grasped Duncan‘s hand and gave a firm handshake. "A royal welcome? I was beginning to worry you'd miss all the fun."

Duncan smiled and stepped back and replied, "Not if I could help it, your majesty."

Cailan stood next to Duncan , "Then I'll have the mighty Duncan at my side in battle after all. Glorious! The other Wardens told me you had found a promising recruit. I take it this is he?”
“Allow me to introduce you your Majesty,”
“No need, I recognize one of the Couslands.” Cailan stood before Konrad and held his hand out to shake it. Konrad nervously took his hand giving a brief shake. “Your brother has already arrived with Highever’s troops, though no sign of your father, I’ll assume he will be here soon?”
Konrad looked down, “He isn’t coming,” Konrad replied.
“Why is that?” Calian asked, looked between Duncan and Konrad.
"Teryn Cousland and his wife are dead, your majesty. Arl Howe has shown himself a traitor and has overtaken Highever castle." Duncan told him, "Had we not escaped, he would have killed us and told you any story he wished."

Konrad watched as Calian paced around, "I… I can scarcely believe it! How could he believe that he would get away with such treachery! As soon as we are done here, I will turn my armies and bring Howe to justice. You have my word."

“Thank you your Majesty,” Konrad said, bowing his head.

"You no doubt wish to see your brother. Unfortunately, Fergus and his men are scouting in the Wilds."

Konrad looked back up, “What? When will he be back?”

"Not until after the battle is over, I fear. Until then, we cannot even send word. I apologize, but there is nothing more I can do. All I can suggest is that you vent your grief against the darkspawn for the time being.”

"I'm sorry to cut this short, but I should return to my tent. Loghain is eager to bore me with his strategies."
Konrad bowed as Calian left, and Duncan turned to look at him. “We should get you settled in,” Duncan said, “Go across the bridge and look for Alistair, he will help you, there are also two over recruits in camp.” Konrad nodded and watched as Duncan left him to himself.
Konrad felt Garm trying to get under his hand, he had forgotten the hound was there and rubbed the top of his head. Konrad stepped onto the bridge and looked to his left, and saw the view, stunned at what he saw. Konrad went to the low wall and leaned on it, looking out onto the landscape. Konrad was soon accompanied by Garm who had lifted his head up by standing his front paws on the wall to see what his master was looking at. Konrad stood there for a few minutes before looking away, “Come on, lets see the camp.” Konrad said to Garm. The war hound replied with a short bark and followed Konrad across the bridge.
