See, now you've got me thinking about how strange it is that RPG characters can often wear both rings and gauntlets on their hands, yet no clever enchanter ever thought to apply magical effects to socks. And shouldn't one be able to put on mismatched boots with different stat bonuses on them?

We clearly need a game that addresses these issues.

Well yes, though Morrowind had left/right gauntlets and pauldrons, and boots too, if I recall correctly.... :P

I really liked playing dress up in Morrowind. :) Guess we'll just have to wait and see what's in the game. Maybe after some play throughs they decided that 2 rings made you too powerful or something.

Morrowind was really great, because you could wear robes *over* other items - and armour over clothes. Made a lot of sense, too...

*suffers nostalgia attack*

It guess it doesn't really bother me. It's a character with a certain number of slots for items. People want two rings but if they gave us two slots for pants everyone would think that was ridiculous. You have one pants slot and you have to choose which pair you want to wear. I know in the old D+D/BG rules if you wore two protection rings only one of them was supposed to work because the effects don't stack. Why couldn't an RPG make a rule that only 1 ring works at a time? Why should 2 be the maximum that can work? Why not 1 or 3? or 5? Saying we have only 1 ring slot is just as arbitrary as saying we have 2 ring slots.

Yes, but two has become something of the norm. So I suppose people are a bit surprised at the fact that it might not be two in DAO.

If you really wanted to make a reason for it, say that the magic interferes. But that would beg the question why it doesn't also interfere with items of clothing and such. *shrug*

Tradition, Torrius...

2 rings slots = AD&D had 2 ring slots

Comparable to dwarves having beards because they had beards in Tolkien's books. That's how it works.

If that is the case, then that means revamping the interface a bit to remove a ring slot. I would think it would be easier to just nerf the rings instead. Especially if it's just certain combinations of rings creating the problem. Nerfing the rings would be just goin to the ring information code & stickin some new numbers in, or removing certain powers, or similar.

Then again, if they figured it would be funner to squash some bugs with a hammer instead of a fly-swatter, no complaints here. Image IPB

There are two ring slots.

Fernando Melo Thursday, 24 September 2009
The Memory Band itself is a ring, and as such is equipped in one of the two available ring slots in most party members' equipped items/paper doll view of the inventory - and while equipped provides the +1% xp bonus.

Not very illuminating at all really, with regards to the contents of this post... all those profiles are made with the character generator and thus result in the inventory screen STILL Missing the Arrow and secondary ring slots.

Maria Caliban, however, jogged my memory  so I looked around on the wiki and found this:
http://social.biowar...php/Inspiration

As you can see, Alistair has a Quiver slot and two ring slots... so I believe the character generator was just not giving us the whole story.  PEOPLE  GATHER ROUND ME!!  I THink this is a false alarm and the actual game will have two ring slots.  Nothing to see here - move along..

The Cloak will have to be modded in perhaps..Image IPB

There should be 36 ring slots! 10 for hands, 3 each ear, 1 per eyebrow, 1 per nostril, 2 for lips, 2 per umm.. chest, 1 per navel, 1 per.. umm.. lower, then 10 for feet!

Then necklaces should be able to be strung between any of the non-limb ring slots.

Yup.

Actually no thoes posts were as I asume this auto uploads from the dev team  while playing the game. it contains gear high levels and other things one of the profiles has a character with two rings so next time go through the contents of the post.

social.bioware.com/playerprofile.php since your incompotent to go through the profiles I have linked the one I was thinking of. Now how does something just created in the character creator have 41 kills and is level 4?

Dont mistake incompetence with not finding the one link with 2 ring slots showing out of the twelve in that post..
After lookin at 9 of them and not seeing the ONE OUT OF TWELVE you wanted to show me.. dont get your panties in a bunch muffin

Calling someone incompetent for such a minor thing while at the same time spelling the word wrong is ironic.

The reason some people are higher level is because they are devs and other privileged people who are already playing the game before it is released. Without looking it up, I recall that Chris Priestly has a character over 20th level on the player profiles. The fact that they were recently uploaded or updated doesn't reflect the fact that they could have been playing the character in game for quite a while.

In the giantbomb quicklook you can also see at about 6 minutes in when he is going through the inventory that there is indeed 2 ring slots

So definately seems to just be a bug with the social site :)

Well and interesting thing is with the developers profiles is that rings seem to be equiped in Glove/Shield/Ring/Amulet slots so we have 4 "ring" slots at a cost to other things it seems
