Screw the Prequel. Why do people want to see things we know the end to, totally silly idea.
Move forward and ONWARD.
Screw that, move sideways. The path no one expects is the path *says something insightful*

Sorry, sidetracked, new Mass Effect stuff: absolutely, but let ME3 be the end of Commander Shepard's story.

*Points to the mess that was the Prequel trilogy.
Let's avoid that, kay?

To be fair, the infamous "prequel trilogy" was bad for reasons far beyond the fact that it was a prequel.InvaderErl wrote...
Seriously. New story > Background story.

I don't know how I could go on with my life knowing there will never be a Mass effect game
PLEASE PLEASE no to a prequel. I dislike playing a game where I Know how it ends, even if the future is far away.
We need to stop the reapers, retire Shepard as a character, and the game continue on from there. I don't care if the game becomes a shooter, a rts game, or just another story driven game after the Shep timeline, but please no prequels.

who said the ME series needs to end after ME3?
Well not many, but a lot of people are hoping for a cool dark and edgy twist, where we cannot defeat the reapers. Game over, the galaxy is reset, blah blah. Personally I'd never buy another Mass Effect game if after 5 years of this, the end is "no way you can win", galaxy destroyed...................now come play this prequel game about the Genophage. I couldn't do it, I have no desire to invest into playing a game where the future is set in stone......then end.

I want to blow stuff up in style without the restraint of an overarching story.
Then again this is bioware forums and that is blaphemy, but the best part of NWN sure as hell wasn't the storyline.

The tell tale sign will be how ME3 ends. If ME3 ties up all the loose ends (genophage, quarians, Shadow Broker, TIM....etc) then I have little hope for future games in the ME universe.
