Is Jack Ever Useful?

If you take Thane and Jack with both of their loyalty missions done theres no point rolling Shepard with any squad ammo. Both of them will just use their own instead so that squadmate combination is completely dead to me.

Oh, I forgot ... I always use her on the suicide mission ... as the biotic specialist.
Same here. For some reason, the final blast she lets out in the end cutscene looks far better coming from her, than from Samara. My mental voice-over for that has jack saying "Will you all JUST F**K OFF!!", whereas Samara just seems to let out a grunt in my mind.

It's not that ... at that point my Samara has ridiculous cooldown, Area Throw, Area Reave, and vindicator (possibly with a squad ammo power).
(Yes, you pull fans, my Samara build doesn't have pull)
She's so awesome I'm hard pressed to spare her for specialist duty.

I've never found a use for Grunt. But perhaps he shines with some other class.
I'm playing a Sentinel on Insanity and I will say this, Jacob is my best buddy. I bee-line squad incendiary ammo from the start and put 1 pt in pull for him and horizon easy. Hell, I was level 10 when I did horizon on Insanity because of bug where I'm not getting the 25% xp bonus. If I had that bonus. This game would be too easy.
Jack is now gonna be my best buddy with Jacob situational only when taking Blood Pack. Jack is better for Eclipse and either works well for Blue Suns. I spec'd both of them for squad ammos plus their pulls set up my warp detonates. To a Sentinel they are very good squad mates to have in the game! They're probably not that usefull to Infiltrators/Soldier/Vanguards because they have ammo powers! But to a Sentinel, these two squadmates pack a mean punch. Swap in any other squadmate with-out ammo powers and Jacob and Jack are a fantastic edition.
So yes, every squadmate is usefull ... it depends on how you use them! Err, wait, I have yet to use Grunt and Thane for much of anything. They're pretty underused when I play.
I have to agree there, I definitely dislike Grunt the most.
Wrex was awesome in ME1, because he could kill things with a shotgun, and he had biotic powers. All Grunt can do is shoot.

And Charge Scions, knocking them over while he yells at them about being a Krogan. And Concussive Blast. And Fort. Hell, I like all the characters.

Thanks to you I like them all now too, Jack's Shockwave is really cool and useful, just tried it after watching your vid. Even Jacob is not that bad with Pull Field. And Tali, well I do not like her as a character, but she is ok in combat thanks to drone+energy drain.

This, although I obviously have favorites. I used to see no point in grunt, but he's one of my favorites now. Come to think of it, I would imagine a combo of Grunt, Jacob/Jack, and Vanguard!Shep could be devastating in close range combat. Note I left out Tali, since she's not exactly devastating at close range.
Actually, we should have a topic about squad members.

Ran her with Grunt for a while and that didn't work out too well. Love Grunt, he's so tough, but with him Jack spent a lot of time napping.
So I tried her with Miranda. Miranda can boost the team's hp, helping keep Jack on her feet. And Miranda has the Overload ability, good for getting rid of shields, which in turn makes it easier for Biotics to their thing.
Now, on Insanity, the Crazy and the Cheerleader are ripping things up.

But honestly, my general purpose squad is Miranda and Grunt, though I sometimes use Miranda and Garrus. I tried Tali and Mordin because I wanted to hear Tali's reaction to "Quarrian with a tummy ache" and those two are a surprisingly effective combo on Mordin's loyalty mission.
Ultimately, Jack's biggest use, to me, is as a biotic specialist on the collector base

I found Jack alright on veteran, but I never take her on insanity. Maybe it's just me, but shockwave just doesn't work very well when everyone has armor or shields on. I also almost always take warp ammo if my shepard has biotic powers, so that almost limits her usefulness. If want someone with a shotgun, i'll usually take tali along with chikkita. Exploding drones FTW
Yeah, Shockwave on insanity really just stuns people. I have wide shockwave on my shep. It does buy some time though as everyone in the room takes a single step back.

I took Jack and Mordin to the Collector ship on Insanity with my Sentinel and she did just fine. I also took her and Miranda to recruit Tali and we cleaned up easily. I took her with me on Miranda's loyalty. I took her with me on Garrus' loyalty. She has squad warp so with my Sentinel I dont need a bonus power because the Sentinel does really really good without one, as long as another team mate has a squad ammo. It's almost too easy running this way with the Sentinel but its super fun.

Shockwave is a lot better then pull on long ranges. For example, grunts recruitment mission and the places with blue suns heavys.Pull misses there.Shockwave works always as intended.(insanity/engineer)CC-Tron wrote...

she's pretty good for husks and other melee enemies. Other than that warp ammo is pretty awesome if you use it right.
thats about right. i find she tries to use her shotgun at insane ranges which is useless. i sure do love shockwave though.

It's really just an issue of philosophy. A lot of people love Miranda, because she has a bunch of the nuke powers that set up Shepard's abilities. Jack's abilities on the other hand are stronger, but need to be set up. For a gun-focused character that doesn't mind defenses as much, Jack is an excellent squadmate for applying the coup-de-grace; it just requires a different point of view.

I screwed-up the chance to gain Jack's loyalty (picked Miranda over Jack-I was looking forward to her upgrade), Not enough paragon points so now she just sits on her bunk and pisses and moans when I try to chat her up.
