I can make decent looking male elves, but my female elves always look... weird. :/ is there any way to make them look cute and not get the puffy cheek jowls while playing?

I find female elves fairly difficult too. The magic buttons for making an elf, regardless of gender, is Cheek Gaunt + Cheekbone Up. If you're still finding them too pufferfish-like, try morphing it "Skinny" (providing you're doing in the the toolset). To be honest I haven't made a character in the default creator in so long. I imagine it's pretty painful.

EDIT: Just checked the character creator, you'd want to move Cheek Shallow/Full pretty far into Shallow and Cheekbone Height nearly maxed.

Thanks, I'll try that. Yeah, I'm on ps3 so only the default creator for me. (Though, I've modded my friend's pc version and it looks great. I'm quite envious) :< damned puffy elves.

(Also as a side note, how does one go about uploading a character from the character creator?)

I have the "cartoony" problem. But, when you end up "fixing" them, they're more or less humans with pointed ears.

Yeah, they can look a bit toonish, especially in the profile picture. Very nice elves btw, I really like the second one in particular.

Thanks! Nothing worse than a frumpy elf.

Hahah agreed. My first playthrough was as an elf and I liked her and would like to play through as an elf again (I've played as humans ever since) but I wouldn't call the elf I played as "pretty" and it's damned difficult making them look like humans still. (I'm in character creator currently)

They also look generally unhappy hahah.

I find what helps is staying away from the rounder eye....a more almond shape helps give it an 'elf' look as opposed to the more caucasian looks of most of the humans...Unfortunately the elves are essentially humans with pointy ears. Generally sharper features tend to look more 'elvish' so far...

I agree on the almond shaped eyes, but i also try to make all the features just a little bit smaller and daintier that i would with a human.

I'd like to give some pointers.

1. Use the toolset. One of the most powerful features of the toolset is the "squint eye" feature. This feature is not available in the in-game character creator and it is crucial to making unique and good looking elves.

2. This is going to be weird. But do a design of the elf bald at first. It allows you to see every flaw in your design and fix it. Makeup, hair mods, and all that junk just distracts your core design. Take all of that out and make your character bald and make the associated tweaks in the toolset. You'll find that you can see things you could not see before. Once you've perfected your design, then add the rest.

This is more of universal tip, but try to go to Tools->Options and change the Background Color in the Morph editor to a more neutral, darker value like 0.5, 0.5, 0.5. You might be surprised how much the default bright background can affect your perception of colours and of the character's features.

This might be helpful as well. It might be common knowledge but it is helpful especially for people who use hair mods. Sometimes you want the ears to perk out so that it shows that your character has "knife ears". The way to do so is to increase the values on:

Ear Rotate Outwards

and Elf Ear shape.

I love the shape of the elf ear shape, looks really beautiful and lore, another advise I recall is when the ears are on default, widen then alittle bit if you want to have a curved ear knife shaped, those are pretty too

Creator tip: Different Presets have different 'structure'. If you can't get one Preset the way ya want, try another one. Some may have different bone structure, some may have different beard/stubble patterns, etc. Experiment. :)

That would be the Chara Generator. In the toolset, hold middle mouse button to rotate head.
