I'm really curious about this, as the current characters revealed are mostly warriors, while Anders is a elemental mage it seems
My origin character is a tank, and without a character like Wynne there is no healer.
Yes i know you can respec but ... everyone seemed to have their own image.
Wynne was a healer, morigan was dps mage, oghren (why is he back?) is a 2h warrior along with sten, etc.
Sum it up just wanna know if there will be some character that's a healer, and not having to lose a mage dps by respeccing
Healer! We need a healer!

Odds are that you get one of the mage characters early enough to spec them out basically any way you want. So you can just make another healing based mage yourself. It's not like you need all that many spells to make a good healer, just the Healing line and the Spirit Healer line with a couple other buffs optional.

i suppose so, but i was hoping to keep my party similar to what i used in origins, only because it was so effective
Tank (me), elemental mage (morrigan), healer (wynne), and dps (shale main, lelina sub)

If you watch the preview video they did last Friday Anders was specced as a Spirit Healer. He either starts that way, or you can respec him to be that way.

Velanna has keeper skills - the one's they demoed were using brambles to slow down/damage enemies and thorns to knockback/damage. Don't remember seeing her do any healing but that doesn't mean she won't/can't.

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and dream
AND THINK NO THAT ISN'T WHAT I NEED.
[Chorus]
I need a HEALER
I'm holding out for a HEALER 'til the end of the night
She's NEEDN'T be strong
SHE NEEDN'T be fast
But I'VE GOT TO BE FRESH FOR THE FIGHT
I need a HEALER
I'm holding out for a HEALER 'til the morning light
She's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And she's gotta be larger than life

I can't picture Anders as a spirit healer.
Keepers can heal, right? When you do the dalish origin the keeper uses her magic to temporarily heal you from the taint. So Velanna is probably the best bet for a healer.

Imported_beer always wins - this was rule number one of the Offtopic on the old boards
Rule number two was - don't mess with i_b... Which makes sense

I have an aversion to speccing companions in a way that does not fit their character. Giving Wynne the Blood Mage specialization, for example. As long as the mages seem the type to pick up the healer spells, I'm good.
Also:
I can be your healer, baby
I can kiss away the pain
I will stand by you forever
You can take my blood away

Story wise I can't see a reason for any mage to not have at the very least basic healing spells. You'd have to be an idiot if you didn't learn at least some cause at some point you know you're going to need them.

Yeah, I can't really picture myself RP'ing Anders as a healer either.
Unless the Templars are incompetent buffoons and can't catch a Mage doing nothing but casting Lifeward and Regen on himself, I'm pretty sure he had to blow some of them up.

He can blow them up, then heal them again!

Might be that the Keeper specialization (Velanna) has healing abilities tied to it... would make sense, natural healing forces.

Healers, schmealers.
My current party is me (DN sword and board), Alistair, Sten, and Oghren - though I am about to betray my lovely Alistair for Loghain just for the achievement (I'm a dirty ****, I know) and we've been kicking much ass and taking names all the while. A few injury kits and health poultices and we're right as rain.
Healers are nice, but not necessarily essential.... which is good because I hadn't planned on killing Wynne, I forgot "I'll take care of these pesky mages for you" choice would trigger the fight, it just seemed appropriate for my dwarf to say at the time. LOL

Healers are not necessary but they make everything sooo much smoother... No need to pause every 10 seconds in tough encounters to make sure everyone drinks their potion

Keepers are healers for their clans, so there will be heal spells there.
And you certainly don't have to be a Spirit Healer to function as a healer... it makes it easier, but you can get by without having that specialization. Anders having the Heal and Regen spells isn't unreasonable, if originally for nothing other than keeping himself alive.
