Prequel that could be interesting

Mass Effect has a lot of story that leads up to the trilogy.  Sort of similar to another favorite trilogy of mine, Halo.  And while Halo is getting a prequel soon, its not the kind I would like.  The kind I would like both Halo and Mass Effect have the potential to do.

The prequel could take place at the end of the ancient civilization.  Forerunner and Protheans.  Both have an unstoppable force, both a final solution, both over the course of centuries.  Both have plenty of story to write in, and a new unique world to learn about.

Doubt either will get made, but for me it would be rather interesting.

That would be interesting. I would like to see what happened when humans found Mass Energy and then the ensuing struggles they went through to get to the Citadel.

I still think the mechanics of Mass Effect doesn't lend itself well to prequels. Unless the prequel is a linear game with only one possible ending, the whole choose-your-own-adventure thing can't work very well done backwards.

I think the Protheans were really interesting before the big reveal in ME2 that they were collectors. I dunno, they just aren't as interesting now...I do think there is a wealth of potential in something like this but it would require creating an entire universe and it would be pretty hard to sell I think, still, more interesting than most prequel ideas like the first contact war and such...

Well, I'm sure we're going to find out about the reasons for the Reapers wanting to destroy everything in the galaxy in ME3, but I would like to know just how they obtained the Protheans.

That would be cool, although Reach does seem like an amazing game anyway. I think there are rumors about a Forerunner Halo game (though obviously not from Bungie). Alas, I don't think BioWare will do it though. They will probably keep it a mystery, as it should be, even if I want to play as a Prothean.

Hey, maybe a Prothean survived and will somehow wind up on your team in ME3? I mean, you destroyed Geth all the way through ME1, and now one is a part of your team, why not a Prothean in ME3?

50,000 years is a long time. Vigil said that they probably died, which makes me think that they weren't that long-lived of a species. The possiblility is there though, and it would certainly be awesome. :D
