Ok. So

GW + GW = no kids.
GW + non-GW = low chance of kids (but can happen; I thought my City Elf bride-to-be was telling me it was impossible)
GW + Morrigan + Magic! = old god baby

Lore/book junkies: so is the taint heritable in any way? If a GW has a kid with a non-GW is there anything different about the kid, or is it normal?

EDIT: ongoing theory: the secret Morrigan/Flemeth agenda might be to "cure" the "taint", allowing GWs to live a normal lifespan and have children, maybe even with each other.

Normally, no, the taint is not heritable. Morrigan's Ritual assures that the baby DOES get the taint, though. A child by a Grey Warden would be normal, and untainted.

My pet theory...We are going to find out how to cure the Taint, but it will come at a great loss. Or find a way to control the taint. I think the fact that 4 out of the 5 royalty results in a possibility of no heir due to Taint is just too convenient.

Facts, and just the facts:

Grey Wardens can conceive with non-Grey Wardens. It is extremely rare, however.

Grey Wardens can conceive with other Grey Wardens. It is exponentially more rare, however. Lore calls this 'almost impossible'. Modifier there denotes it is possible, just highly unlikely.

Morrigan can conceive with anyone she wants because she's using magical fertility treatments.

Regardless of how the child is conceived the taint is not transferred to the child. Morrigan's ritual works by having some taint in her uterus at the time and then maginifying it by a million times or some other silliness. However, we know the child is untainted, because when asked about the child, she will inform you that she is after the UNtainted essence of the old god.

You may continue as you please.

Hmm, the purpose of the GWs voluntarily tainting themselves is so when they slay the AD and it's soul jumps to a new body, they will be the nearest tainted one available. If you read back through what Riordan(sp?) says and the lore, that was the problem during the first Blight. The ADs physical form was destroyed repeatedly but it came right back. It isn't until someone kills it, and happens to be tainted that it is actually destroyed. It's soul jumps to the nearest tainted body, with darkspawn this is no problem, with a GW it lands in a body already containing a soul and the two destroy themselves.

Bleh...too sum up: GWs have to be the ones to kill the AD to stop it from simply moving to another body, and they have to be tainted for it to jump to them, so they pay the price.

The uterus thing wouldn't work because then the archdemon's soul would go to Morrigan, not the baby. I have no idea how the child is tainted enough to attract the archdemon's soul but not enough to become an archdemon itself. Can someone explain that for me? My character didn't care what Morrigan did, as long as it saved her butt lol.

Finally, somewhere where "a mage did it" fits. We have little idea how the ritual actually works or what she does.

It happens at the end. She approaches you about it, so I won't spoil it for you.

And make sure your persuasion is really high if you go that route.

If she has a high approval with Alistair (which is sounds like she does) then it shouldn't matter. But having a high persuasion is good advice for any Bioware games.
