I liked the first one. Too bad Ubi screwed the PC users for the second one, so I probably won't get it.

Yeah, I was irritated when you couldn't bring it up or anything. My first playthrough, no spoilers, the instant he started talking before the battle, I knew he was going to be bad. I like the game it, but the plot has less subtlety than a brick to the face.

Another classic one (meaning definite YMMV) is the ending for the first Fallout. Gives a great "Aww, God dammit..." feeling.

I thought that Breakdown had a pretty cool revelation about midway through. That was the point at which the game went from pretty good to awesome in my eyes (only to alternately drop back down to pretty good, then horrible, then awesome, then pretty good again).

What do you mean, "Loghain"? If you're referring to him actually being kind of a good guy, I already knew that even before I played the since I'd read the DA books before. Hell, I was more surprised that he actually left his King to die given how much he loved Maric and Rowan than I was by anything else in the game. I just kept saying "Loghain is actually just doing this for Ferelden's sake, I bet I'll find his reasons later on in the game."

You'd think that if Bioware wanted to make that big reveal more impactful in their game they wouldn't have spoiled it so much in their books. :P

Going back in time by a decade and a half:

Snatcher for Sega CD. Hideo Kojima's underrated masterpiece has bar none the ultimate plot twists in any game. The last hour of the game was a kick in the face because you did not see it coming, but when you find out why the Snatchers were developed is a moment of sheer coolness.

I can't belive no one said Bioshock so far!

I also liked the Assassins Creed plot twist.

But one of my possibly favourite plot twists are 2 of them in The Witcher, one is shown, and the other is left to speculate, but nevertheless... great.

Dead Space had a pretty good plot twist.
Kendra: You're INSANE Isaac.
Also, I  found General Shepard's betrayal in MW2 quite shocking.

Really? I kind of thought it made no sense, given the fact that the xenomorphes were trying to chew my ass throughout the whole game... and then I'm supposed to be the "brood mother's" pawn? And nobody saw fit to warn me of it before?

I don't know, I just didn't like that game and the story was one of the reasons for it.

Well he is voiced by Simon Templeman and any character voiced by him is always either  the antagonist or at least an anti-hero because of his rather aroogant and sinister sounding voice.

My favorite plot twists include Bioshock, KOTOR1 and 2, The Thief Series(all three of them have a t least one), Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, Jade Empire,Starcraft, Battlezone II, FEAR and Legacy of Kain had  a few good ones(mostly in Soul Reaver 2)

The sequences in which the necromprphs attack Isaac and Nicole work beacuse of the Matrix explanation "the mind makes it real."

Towards the end of Arcanum, when you find out Nasrudin is still alive. Then not much later finding out Arronax is a prisoner and not at all responsible for what's transpiring.

Finding out Jade is the true antagonist in Breath of Fire after an epic fight with Zog. This is a pretty trite JRPG convention that wouldn't impress me now, but back then I was floored; especially after how long that prior fight took.

Ghaleon returning in Lunar: Eternal Blue. That was a surprise in and of itself, but then he later goes from antagonist to anti-hero before dying nobly. Again, a common thing nowadays but totally fresh to me back then.

The ending of Magic Knight Rayearth for Sega Saturn. The three girls discover they were summoned to Cephiro to kill the princess, not save her. She fell in love with the primary antagonist, and that disrupted her ability to do her duty in maintaining that world's harmony. The game ends with the protagonists having to kill her before returning to Earth. It was a surprising and melancholy ending, and subverted an old trope. Granted, this was based on an anime/manga ending so it wasn't original to the game, but since it *does* exist in game form and that was a great plot twist, I have to mention it.

Look, I don't want to sound like I'm butting heads with you, but I genuinely don't see how that plot twist works. You've been attacked time and time again, with increasingly harder foes coming your way, especially when you have to move the Marker along the rails on the colony and when you do it, you get a Nice Job Breaking it, Hero. Wait, what?

It has been a few months since I played the game and I only did it once, so my memories might be a bit fuzzy, but I think that's how it went.

The problem with Dreamfall is that it's a sequel and I only play sequels if I've finished the first part, and I've tried playing The Longest Journey twice now, I got past the first half of the game, but the game was so boring I quit playing it (don't get me wrong, I love adventure games, but this one was boring as hell)

Yeah I know what you're talking about. Many people lose interest toward the mid of the game. It gets better again later though.

You were being manipulated by the Marker not the Necromorphs. Whoever made the Marker did it to contain the Necros but for whatever reason when it communicates with human minds it inevitably drives them insane.

Assassin's Creed 2 was a pretty good game. I guess it's because the first game was bad. Still, I know many people that still love it(including myself). But yeah, that was quite a twist.

Besides that, BioShock is the only other game I can think of with a good twist.

I wasn't meaning it was a plot twist, more a sarcastic remark about how logain looked so much like a bad guy.

I actually admired the fellow. The plot twist for me was when I found out that you could keep him as a companion!:D

What I consider games with good twists:

Neuromancer (hadn't read the book yet so I had no clue)
Wing Commander 3 (couple things in that story)
Icewind Dale (the narrator)
Fallout (the ending)
Blade Runner (only because the ending changes each time you play it!)
Noctropolis
VTM: Bloodlines (most of the endings are awesome, but a few of them twist you in ways I didn't see coming)
KoTOR 1 (yes, call me dense if you want, you great detectives, but I only "knew" it minutes before it was revealed - and that's the best kind, IMO, of "Oh, crap, I know what's going on")
Dreamweb (no, I didn't see that one coming either)
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream (full of interesting twists - good old Harlan Ellison)
Beyond Good and Evil
Bioshock
Max Payne

and of course
Breakdown (Alex, 'nuff said.)

I'm sure I'm forgetting games  - I know I am.  Doing this from memory sucks.

I'm trying to figure out which part of BioShock was the twist.  I remember a couple of related "surprise" revelations, but at least one part of this I called about five minutes into the game, literally.  The rest worked well enough in the game, but didn't impress itself upon me particularly.

I don't think of myself as someone who is great at predicting plot twists in games, either.  I was surprised by KOTOR, despite the occasionally overdone hints, I think just because an amnesiac (or quasi-amnesiac) protagonist is nothing new in an RPG, but I don't usually expect the game to actually do something interesting with it.  At least I didn't before KOTOR.

Ooooh :o ... so I was being manipulated by the Marker itself and not by the Hive Queen. That's actually a pretty good plot twist.

Wait... how come I didn't realise that when I played it? It's not like I fell asleep halfway through it (although by the end I was so bored with the game I was pushing myself just to say "at least I've finished it")?

Goddammit, that game is poorly written! <_<

Wait, you started playing the game and five minutes later you knew you were a artificially created baby who had the DNA of Andrew Ryan, sent there to kill him and were being ordered around every time someone said "Would you kindly"?

Man, I don't recall the game giving nearly enough hints to figure it out so soon.
