Whoa there buddy calm the heck down.

A) HD televisions are the way that console games are going, if you plan on continuing to play on a console you should probably upgrade. You're going to have to eventually.
B) Doesn't happen on other xbox games? Ever play dead rising or if you like rpgs, a game called mass effect 1? I played through both games on a standard def 27 inch screen. Was the text annoying? Yes. did i complain? No because i was aware that this was going to happen eventually.
C) Should there be some warning against this? Yes but if anything a small disclaimer on the back not the giant eyesore on the cover you seem to suggest.
D) does bioware diserve the bashing your giving them on their own forums? Absolutely not.

A. Why? Because it the hip new thing to do? Oh wait now i'll have to go get one of those 3D tv's as well i suppose? My standard tv works just fine. With your mentality I should by a new car every few years because of some new upgrade it has.
B. I have all of theose game and Don’t have the problem like I and the OP (and others) have with text size in ME2. In fact on the back of both ME games they both support HDTV 720p/1080i/1080p formats.
C. A warning on the back would be nice stating that that it may not support SDTV’s.
D. Yes they do. They released the game, its their product.

they clearly only tested games on HD screens, whatever, its just text, why would you stop playing a game because the text is hard to read... isn't it more about the game itself... I have a 42 inch HD tv though so wtf do I know

-the game requires you to read text the  on screen to make decisions to further the story.

Bull****, you can get a 19" 720 LCD screen for 143 bucks at Best Buy. probably even cheaper if you buy from Ebay or Newegg. And if you have money trouble you shouldn't be buying 60 dollar games in the first place.

-So I should waste money for a quick fix AND downsize from a 36” tv screen to crap 19” screen? Yea right. By the way there is a huge difference between spending some cahs for a game that should last you for a while of replaying it and forking out a few hundred dollars to replace something like a tv that is only a few years old.

Yes actually you should. your 36" doesn't matter because you can only achieve 480, the 19" can achieve 720 and will look 1000 times better then your 36". But your argument is still bull**** because a 32" runs about 330 bucks, your just spliting hairs.

Oh noes! Someone doesn't want to shell out 200+ bucks for a TV when they already have a fully operational one to play a 60 dollar game! So shocking!

Honestly it was a ****** move on BioWare's part to have small text and no warning on the box. THEY are the ones at fault not the person who bought the game and expected to be able to read the text at least. Now if BioWare had a warning on the box then you could say it was the consumer's fault. Until then the fault lies with BioWare.

Also I feel your pain about the TV. Though you'd be better off buying a LCD computer monitor for using as a TV if you have any spare money. (Luckily I got my desktop for free and it had a nice 22" LCD screen as part of the package).

Hi Nate81
I have the same problem and I think devs should consider that everyone does not have an HDTV, its kind of insulting that they would not put it as an option. High end games like ME should not have this.
However there is good news. If you change your xbox settings to widescreen, it will make the text appear bigger. The games will be a bit stretched out, however you will be able to see better.

To do this, Press the middle button, go to settings, then go to system settings. In there go to console settings, then display.
In Display, go to screen format and switch it to widescreen.
Like I said its going to look a bit different but its worth it. Hope you didnt get rid of ME2. Hope this helps.

Not enjoying the game?

Don't buy it.

The game has sold well and gotten rave reviews. I think bioware did just fine.

"don't buy it"? really? I'm expected to know ahead of time that the text size would be so small? How does one anticipate that exactly?

The text size is a serious issue because reading the menu's is necessary. I could not distinguish between weapons, abilities, the squad menu options, OR the required dialogue options. Without the text, the game is not playable.

A lot of people are saying that basically I'm expected to go out and buy hardware to support poorly designed software. Other than the text, the game plays fine and looks incredible. I have no issues with any other aspect of the game, visual or otherwise. Only the text is a problem so I think upgrading my t.v. to make up for Bioware's design choice is lame-o.

Yea Yea text iz to small on your slightly outdated PC. But.

Upgrade or get left behind your choice.~ Having a HDTV iz like the norm now at least everyone i know has them or access to them. kinda like more people going to collage because it become the new high school....

It will only get worse for you here on out gaming is advancing at a incredible rate and needz more hardware and tech... Pay that money and Evolve >:3

HDTV don't cost that much get a small one it's not a waste because you will need one for other games you. Get a job it will cost you half a paycheck possibly less on minimal wage dude. Saw 1 at wall-mart for 120 buckz

Sounds like your complaining your old skool gameboy can't play games in color. You know what needs to be done. Bio-Ware probably wont make a patch for you. not that important (imo)~

^ Nate did you read my post? You can change this by choosing the widescreen option in system settings. I have the same problem as you and this has allowed me to play the game (or any game with this problem). Im already 23 hours in and this would not have happened if I didnt change the format.

I know it sucks, but at least you get to play the game. Maybe bioware will be more considerate next time. But dont let this stop you, there is a way and ME2 is a great game!

Buy a HD TV. They aren't even expensive.

And stop complaining on Bioware's own forums. You should of been aware that you would have to upgrade your TV since the games keep getting better and better graphics. If your poor, i'm sorry. Throw ME2 into the trash can and go play Super Mario on your nintendo.

...Get an HDTV? I don't really see the problem. It's not cheap, obviously, but you can get a good 19-22" inch for under $200. Spend twice that and you could get a 30-42". It's an investment, but it makes the picture for just about everything so much more crisp and clear. Nobody's asking you to upgrade your TV just for Mass Effect, but the electronics industries are adapting to the HD format as they should. You will have to do the same sooner or later. I'd recommend sooner, since you could get a 2009 model TV on clearance at any major electronics retailer.

Simple solution. Go to your Xbox360 setting's blade. There should be something for monitor display. Go into whatever the option is, and search for the screen settings. Change it to widescreen. Your television will now no longer letterbox to create that tiny 4:3 aspect ratio, and just instead trim a little off of the sides as it switches to widscreen.

It pissed me off immensely on my tiny little TV until I started looking through for anything that would ameliorate the eyestrain. Bad design choice on Bioware's part, but an easy fix exists.

Screw HDTVs. They're massively overpriced. I got a nice 24" 1080p LCD computer monitor at Best Buy a few months back for gaming with my 360 and only paid $200 for it. Ironically, the picture looks better on it than on my roommate's $1,700 LEDTV.

Do you even know what a HDtv is? you 1080 24" LCD is an HD TV you idiot.

Reading comprehension must not be your strong point. I'm aware that an LCD computer monitor and an HDTV are functionally similar. That's kind of the point. The technology is virtually identicle but one will cost you on average 200-300% more. Hence why I said HDTVs are massively overpriced and you should consider buying a nice LCD monitor instead.

And no, my 1080p LCD is not an HDTV as it cannot recieve or decode HD television broadcasts without a TV tuner. It's an HD display, not a television. Which begs the question, do you know what an HDTV is?

Idiot.

This isn't new. When I played my 360 more than my PC (now it just collects dust) I knew I had to have a high def tv to fully experience the games this is back when it first came out. All console games are designed for HD period.

To Kali-Yuga and Sialboats, the widescreen option does help. The game is now elongated, but playable.

This thread cracked me up, a large portion of posters assumed I was too poor to buy an HD tv when all I said was I didn't think I should have to just to make the game text legible. A whole mess of others didn't even seem to realize I was talking about XBOX instead of PC. LOL.

If Bioware wants to exclude SDTV customers, then I am happy not to buy any future games from them. I should not have to break the bank by buying an expensive HDTV and I also shouldn't have to pull my chair a foot from my TV and strain my eyes.
