As for 'holding it back just to squeeze money out of the gamers later' comments, I wonder how many of you work on developing games for the Xbox and understand the whole process of not just creating the content, but all of the hoops content has to go through on the Microsoft side before it's approved for release on the network?

So you finished the game only once then put it to the shelf?
Doesn't affect the calculations, as long as you play through kasumi as many times as you play through the main game.

I wish there would be more time dedicated to things that truly matter, like adding content that has something to do with the main plot.
Technically half of ME2's main game content was recruiting a bunch of random people from a list of dossiers, each of them detached from the grand scheme of things (i.e they're just there to lend you their skills as squadmates). That's not very main-plot-ish. And let's not forget all that planet scanning.
Point is, the main plot is nice and all, but on the bigger picture it's already overshadowed by all the side stuff. You fight more Blue Suns people in the game than Collectors for starters.

LOL at people complaining about the first paid DLC, after getting Zaeed, a bunch of weapons & armor, and the Hammerhead with all of it's missions for free.
Zaeed, Normany crash site, Kasumi, the terminus and inferno armor etc. all things removed from the main game.
The only "original" content available are the "arc projector and the cerberus armor" and maybe the hammerhead (it wasn't physical on disc like Kasumi, but it was removed on purpose from the game).
I'm fine until all these thing are free, but if you start to charge even for this little DLC...
If they have to charge for DLC;make instead a REAL expansion of 10/20 hours, release it on both DVD and digital delivery (i'm not buying in digital delivery because of DRM on xbox360) and charge it 30$, then it's ok.
But no way I'll pay 4-15 dollar/euro for an hour of gameplay just like some fanboys.

No it does. Video games are different then entertaiments like cinema. They have replayability or/and multi-player.cruc1al wrote...

If you calculate the price of a video game or its DLC through play hours then I wonder does Modern Warfare 2 worth 8 bucks to you?
There are six character classes which offer utterly new play styles plus all of them can build-up differently by the player and also game can be played with different moral choices.
And you still insist on appraising the game for one playthrough?../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png

Bioware needs to make this one GREAT.
Otherwise criticism.

Side note I wonder if we'll get any character missions DLC? I realize it's a trilogy but there is so much lateral room in Mass Effect. Maybe episodic content? Love to have a 6 hour mission as Jack.

for me the full game is roughly 40 hrs gameplay and it cost me 42eur. to round it up, lets say 1eur/1hr. With the Kasumi DLC geting another 1.5 hours, I would be willing to pay around 1.50eur. Maybe even 3, but for sure not more.
This seems fair. Things like bethesda's horse armor, still sour in my mind. "Bring down the sky" was free, and pretty awesome. Pinacle station was $5, and had over 3 hours of content (I would say close to 10 depending on your gear level). Charging $5 for 1.5 hours is like movie pricing. I dont go to the movies unless I have a social reason to, its just a rip off. On the same basis, I wont pay $7 for a useless weapon and an npc squadmate.
Now, if time passes and I can buy 20 hours of game content for $35 dollars I might consider it. 1.5 hours is not enough of an excuse to replay the game, or motivate me to pay much money. If they charged this hourly rate for Mass Effect (40 hrs) it would cost $132. Would you buy that?!
Edit: Oh yes, and EA is the bane of all that is holy.

I believe it was released free for PC users. That may be what he is refering to.

Yes, thank you. I was unaware it cost points for console players.

Example: Dragon Age was about 100 hours on average, and cost $60. Awakening is to have 15-20 hrs of gameplay and costs $40.

Still, the way BioWare releases games, you can't base a ratio of an hour of gameplay time with every dollar you spend.

Why not? Its a way to judge value. By your numbers, I would say that Awakening has far less value than Dragon Age. Dragon age costs 60 cents an hour. Awakenings cost 2 dollars. I doubt Awakenings will have as good of a story, and it cost almost 3 times as much to play per hour.
You may buy Awakenings at $40, I most likely wont until its under $20 (eh, $10). In the end, we both will buy the game.

It is a way to judge value, I thought this myself too... but Mass Effect 1 & 2 has about 40-50 hours of gameplay each, Dragon Age has 100 hours, both cost the same. But a majority here say that Mass Effect is a better game.
