Woldan, that´s the same urban legend about 9mm Vs .45 ACP. You´re forgetting that marbellous thing called "cavitation".
Sure, the bullet will not take down an attacker like a 12 gauge, but his innards will look like pudding.

With the perfect hit a pellet gun kills, I know. But I still like the idea of shooting a bullet downrange which has more diameter and weights 3 times as much as the 5.56. 
And the 5.56 runs out of steam quickly, due its size it relies entirely on its velocity, and it loses it quickly. After 300m a slight breeze can blow it away and its not a reliable stopper anymore.
 Light foliage also deflects the 5.56, and forget shooting at cover. With the 7.62x51 you can shoot through heavy foilage, you can shoot through trees, you can even shoot through brickwalls, and you can chew through concrete walls easily - with the 7.62 there is no cover. 

Bigger bullets tend to make more damage. I cant think of any reason why I should take a 5.56 over a 7.62.

Speed is the name of the game. Aim for the chest with a 5,56 and cavitation will do the rest. SAPI plates will have also a harder time than with 7,62.



On the other hand, there´s this new bullet, a 6,8 that combines the best of both. Barret has designed a very nice AR with that caliber.

I fully support the 6.8mm SPC, sounds like the perfect do-it-all caliber for a military rifle. Heck, it could also be used as a light sniper /designated marksman cartridge, it does a great job at longer ranges.



But there is an even better idea, equip one half of the soldiers with the current 5.56 and the other half with a 7.62 battle rifle (Fal, M14) They could even serve as medium machine gun and designated marksman rifle. Best of both worlds and no need for an expensive caliber change.

I´m partial to a USP compact. But anything from HK is expensive stuff (40 € for an original 3 point sling!!!)

I shot a friends USP in .40S&W (great caliber!), nice pistol, extremely accurate but the grip was so rough it cut my palms and its was freakin big! Only the Desert Eagle is bigger!

Taurus judge is pretty cool, they started to make one with a 6.5'' barrel, looks great! I wish it would also chamber the .454 casull and the .460S&W since its a .45 model.

There are many variants of USP´s. The big one is the Tactical (that was designed for the German KSK); Match is even bigger (the ones Mrs. Jolie uses in Tomb Raider) and Elite is humongous.

The Compact is easier to carry plus it packs the same punch.

I am better with a long gun than a pistol hence my interest in the Judge for protection

If you need to pack a punch like that as "self protection" there are two readings:

1) You are a no-**** person when it comes to hurt people.
2) You live in Gary-Indiana.
