Those swords (flamberges) were never designed to kill people. Those were used by Landskenecht to cut (chop down, as they said at the time) the spearheads of the pikes.

The guys using those were called "Double Payeds" since they had two payments, one after and one before the battles.

Halberds for the win!

I´m better using thick blades than rapier-like weapons.

Exactly! In that time professional soldiers were equipped with swords like hand and a half swords and the famous ''lange messer''. And of course the warhammers/pike combos like the lucerne hammer.

So are you more reenactment or weapon sparring (or some other activity involving spears and sheilds) ? I'm not really sure how the whole thing in your picture works, just curious.

That's more like it Celrath. The Kris and the Dark Haired lady in your picture are cool, sharp, and attractive. Though I don't know how far a conversation would go with a woman holding a blade. Hopefully I don't ****** her off.

My reeneactment group started as project on experimental archeology focused on ancient warfare.

We do not only reenact in the sense of "showin off" gear, clothing and garments; we actually use them for real. Every spear, sword, knife and armour we have has been used in real combat even to the point of drawing blood.

Get close, take out the arm and smash the shield in her face. That makes things easier. :P

On a side not and regarding Woldan, my fave middle ages blades are basicaly the heavy ones: halberds, grosse messer, cinquedea, pick-axes...

Couldn't agree more, wielding weapons with both hands has a much more natural feel to me, you can put serious power into your blows. Something I cannot do with sword and shield. And a heavy medium length blade like the ''Lange messer''  is both quick and deadly, its cutting power is unbelievable.

Here is a nice demo:

Anything that can be used with one or two hands is nice. If you cannot use a shield, arm plates should work fine too.

Problem of a kris is that it has to be used the way it was ment; I mean; though it may look like a gladius or xyphos, to make it really effective, escrima and Filipino martial arts are the way to go for them.

If I ever have to choose a single handed sword with shield, I would choose the Falchion:

Stat- Good, the more actual training people do with weapons, the better. Nothing teaches you respect for how much harm can be done to someone with weapons (or without) besides sparring for real. Also regarding your tip on dealing with the Kris I like how it relies on closing and grappling. Appeals to the well, grappler in me. But I have to admit I may just want to woo her with words, no Red Sonya stuff here aight?
