I reloaded with my level 30 soldier and I cant even get past the first battle on Freedoms Progress without getting killed. WTF??! I expected it to be hard but man I can see this will be a serious challenge going through.

Lol no bro, honestly, I know exactly what part, and that part is honestly one of the hardest parts of insanity. Just use Jacob's pull when you take out their shields, and take out the Fenris mechs before they get close to you.
Just wait. Once you beat that part and get the Widow, you will be fine.

Geth Shield Booth with my Insanity Soldier saved my life many times.

You can clear it like this:
www.youtube.com/watch
The important bit is to quick key Warp, Pull and Overload. Shoot off armour and keep Pull on standby for when one of the dogs or the lokis gets too close. You should be able to do it alot easier with Adrenaline Rush and by not making as many mistakes as I did.
Insanity+ is rough until you get Mordin. Then you can start bagging upgrades. Once you are around 3/5 upgrades in damage protection, biotics/tech and your main weapon the game gets easier. When you get 4/5 and 5/5s then Insanity+ turns into a shooting gallery.

My recommendation:
Tempest with incendiary ammo (upgrade it asap)
Reave - The fact that it damages enemies, gives you health, and paralyzes unprotected enemies is pretty cool.
Otherwise for a really easy insane playthrough, use a Sentinel. The tech armor is unbelievably good.

Your level 30 soldier didn't jump into Insanity. They jumped into Insanity+. It's a much more challenging prospect until you can get the upgrades to bring your weapon damage back up to snuff. And believe me: right now your weapon damage really, really sucks. Part of Insanity+ is that all your research upgrades are gone.

Once you get past Freedom's progress you can dump the piece-o-sheet that is the Avenger. ANY gun is better than that little pea-shooter. If you have the GPR use that until you get the accuracy upgrade, then switch to your Revenant if you chose it.
Also, I think that Insanity+ was easier because I had a fully upgraded AR right off the bat, and a bunch of fully upgraded ammo powers.

Yeah, starting insanity with a level 30 character with maxed out guns and skills makes insanity relatively easy.

The guns are not maxed out when you start a NG+. You have to get the upgrades over again. Meanwhile, the enemies all have upgraded weapons. I find it much harder (at least for the first half of the game).

Start a new game with a soldier, there's a balancing system where all the enemies are the same level as you, so they have better weapons than you. Focus on assault rifle and sniper upgrades, if you can, try to get the assault rifle accuracy upgrade before the Collector Ship so you can use the Revenant without accuracy problems. Always use adrenaline rush when you peak your head out. Incendiary ammo is also a neccessity, preferably inferno ammo. also, you can do the glitch where when you are about to rank up a power to its 4th level, push X and A at the same timeso you can rank up the power and keep the squad points, use retrain powers for that, the glitch only works when you're on the 360 version.

Yeah, I'm gonna say that too.
Insanity is reasonable, Insanity+ is a challenge.

Insanity+ is only a challenge until you are like 1 or 2 recruits away from the suicide mission. By that point you are close to being fully upgraded and the game becomes very easy. I don't know how the upgrades work, whether its 5 x 10% or whether its +10%, +20%, +30%, +40% and then +50% but as soon as I got 4/5 submachine guns and 4/5 biotic damage I just rolled Thane's Recruitment on Insanity+ without dying or quickloading. That hasn't happened before cuz I pretty much always die at least once. Sometimes I die loads of times before figuring it out (Geth Colossus :smith: )

Insanity + with a soldier is brutal until you get past horizon. After that you'll have enough skin weave buffs and assault riffle upgrades to last through the tougher fights.
