Hi Bioware
I've been searching the forums and have been unable to find an answer.
I skipped the DVD drive in my new PC (no need for it nowdays?!) and i was wondering..
Q:
Can i play Dragonage:Orgins without the DVD when installed from the DVD files? Is there a setting or a fix?
OR
Do i need to delete the game and download the game via the EA download client to be able to play?
Looking forward to an answer
No DVD fix?

Nope, you need a DVD for the DVD version. Bold decision there since most software still comes on disk, and it's not like a DVD drive costs a lot nowadays.

If you want to play with out the DVD you would have to activate your CD Key in the EA Download Manager (or at http://activate.ea.com/), uninstall the DVD version, and download and install it via the EADM.

Maybe not games, but I was speaking of software. I look forward to the day then broadband get fast and cheap enough to implement that vision. I don't believe it's here yet.

I see Huge problems with Online versions only (or Online distribution) that a very easy way to rip people off. Unless someone regularly backs something up, a simple virus could cause someone to lose a alot of information. I also suspect that the company would put limits on how many times you can DL a copy of a game, for what ever reason.
Never mind some games will not function properly without matching reg. entries, and even those are getting more clever. I Want there to be discs. There would always be an option, of keeping the game/software, even when you can not connect to the internet and want to shuffle games for space.
Download only, Is a very bad idea. Forgetting the fact that currently games/software that require the disc, that also have versions that are Digital only, are the games/software that get the no-cd/dvd patches the fastest because of those example in the coding of the Exe's to launch/play the game.
I look forward to having discs, of all sorts for a long time.

The most common software can be downloaded. Software like OS (Windows) can be installed from a USB stick.
The broadband is a problem. I agree. We who have decent connections don't have any problems with downloading large amount of data. A few countries are ready for download only, thanks to the infrastructure: Korea, Japan and Sweden -where the # of megabits per user are one of the highest.
I think other countries should follow the good examples and provide everyone with good internet connections.
DePhoegon, the future is online - that's the natural path.
Ofc will people get ripped off. But you can still be ripped off in a normal store. A normal store is also 1 extra step in the chain from the game developer to the end user. The result of that is higher prices for the end user.
Until now.. I haven't get ripped of at Steam, EA Store, Direct2Drive etc.. These are serious stores.
I do agree that we need more development for even easier access to games and ofc be able to play games in offline mode (singleplayer and LAN multiplayer) when there's no connection.
Download should be put as the first choice, way ahead of removable media, not are we making ourselves a good favor with prices and availability, but also the environment with saving the production of the unnecessary dvd/blurays
Once again, i look forward to a world without removable media - in a short future

I'm curious......how do you install the files from a DVD version if you dont have a DVD player?

Yes I have heard about copying to a usb stick...but does that actually work?....considering the game has a dvd check?
I am not doubting that you did that...but I'm just curious to confirm that it can actually be done that way.
Just doesnt seem possible unless you used some sort of 3rd party hack.

It has no disc check during installation, he installed the game from USB and found it needs the disc to play. He then queried whether he can just download the game through the EA Download Manager and use that for authentication purposes instead (coupled with his CD Key)
