With all the probs people have been reporting with Origins' patch 1.03, I thought I would ask what game have you played that was so buggy or required so much patching that it became more of a hassle than a pleasure to play?

I remember when Darklands first came out, and the patches were being issued almost on a weekly basis. The biggest hassle was that you had to direct dial the Microprose bbs and make a long distance d/l that could take up to an hour.  And then, the find out that the latest patch broke something else. Argggh!

Age of Conan... That required so much patching at launch, it was hilarious... just then without the nice part.
But I suppose that's really a MMORPG thing. World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online and Tabula Rasa were patched more times than I can count too.

Then there's also Heroes of Newerth which has a lovely stream of patching very quickly and I must really say S2 (developers) is doing a great job on that. In that case the patching is a positive thing as they add more heroes rather quickly and really expand the, currently in beta, game a lot.

Definitely NWN2. Playing the OC with the expansions installed is impossible 'cos of too many gamestopping bugs

STALKER. seriously, never-ending spawning bandits. it was like Call of Duty in reverse. the crashing also sucked.

also, the Fallout series. every game has been pretty glitchy.
(it's still my favourite series though <3)

oh and that Steam version of Knights of the Old Republic. crashed 3 times in less than 10 minutes.

I second Age of Conan.  Every patch fixed one thing and then broke 10 more.  It was comical.  Everyone dreaded patch days (and there were many of them those first couple months).

Ultima IX was my first experience with a truly unfinished game. Still is but at least it's stable now (even on a modern machine).

NWN2 OC both at release and now.

Fallout 3's random crashes on two completely different sets of hardware/OS. I thought Oblivion was bad with crashes to desktop when a cell became funky, but FO3 takes the cake.

Have managed to avoid most lemons, but these got me.

I recently d/l Darklands from abandonia or GOG (one or the other) and running in DOSBOX it plays quite well. Really dated but fun for old time RPGers. Somebody must have done some work after Microprose threw up their hands on it.

It's a toss-up between Daggerfall & Gothic 3. Though Morrowind was pretty bad too.

NWN2. Not only the patches are messy, but every single patch must be installed separately, and every one is like... 70 MB big! Not to mention you can almost never finish the game if you dare installing one patch...

V-tM: Bloodlines which is, ironically, one of the best games I've played even despite all it's initial bugs and Gothic 3 which was just horrendous when it launched. Oh, and honorable mentions go to GTA 4 with it's non-existent optimization for PC and it basically took Rockstar 3 patches to get it done right. Awesome game, one of THE crappiest PC ports ever.

Of the games I've played, NWN2 definitely takes the cake. I couldn't play it for at least a couple of months because of this bug or that bug etc..the patches were so annoying to install.

KOTOR 2 is also really buggy, but I don't think it was really patched. If it was I must have missed the newlette, because my game still runs like garbage.

Oh, and Fable 2, I'm embarrassed to even say I own it...but when it takes like 3 seconds to open up the pause menu and every menu after that....that's just horrible.

well the whole update for dragon age origins issue was really freaking annoying, but thanks to some of the techies here i resolved everything. other then that fallout 3 constantly dying on me upon exiting foggy bottom station was awful, i ended up just walking there after the 8th time.

like one of the above posters i have an issue with fable 2, awful game without the glitches, abomination with them. i had one glitch that stopped time from moving normally, and would only change when i fast traveled. so in order to do certain quests i had to fast travel a bunch and count the hours. i've never been so irritated.

also both kotor games would lose all sound or the frame rate would drop to like 1, but i wrote that off as an xbox game issue on the 360.
