To bring it back to dictionaries, if you look up the word ******, after giving the definition of a sub-saharan race, it says "no longer in technical use."

It seems that individuals are claiming the Arari are female simply because they have a feminine look to them.

Actually, individuals are claiming that Asari are female because the game says they are female.

I'm fairly certain that there have been a few posts that basicly say feminine=female, but anyway.

The game says differing things.  On one hand it says that "male and female mean nothing to the Asari" and on the other it says "they are all females".  Both, actually, are correct.  But it just differs on your perspective.

From the Asari perspective, male and female truly mean nothing to them since either individual in a coupling can give birth to a child.

From a human's, or any two gender species, perspective they are all female for the same reason.  Any, and all, Asari can give birth to a child.

Yep. In seeking to prove his use of offensive words to be right, he proved himself wrong. ****** was a term to describe a specific sub-saharan race (but isn't used anymore). It is not, nor ever way, a word to describe the black race except in an offensive context.

the word ****** USED to be a perfectly acceptable term but has fallen out of use and is considered offensive (here in the UK as well) this IS an American/Canadian forum so the rules used are theres and should be respected.

It is not the same as calling a German a kraut, a Frenchman a frog or myself a limey as you seem to think Verenus, while these are racist terms they do not carry the same cultural significance now that a few black people have told you they find the word offensive, you should probably stop using it while you can still claim ignorance...

Well you're talking to one. And no. I don't appreciate being called a ******. (And it must be the ethnocentric in me because when we were dicussing slavery I assumed american slavery which would lead to negros being an offensive term) so if you're talking about some other country then I apologize.

*shrugs* Maybe they dont' care about being called ****** somewhere else. In american though most of the black people I know will hit you. Hard.

If you're a ******, why should you be upset over being called one? Self-loathing issues? Again?

African-American is an extremely wide term, as is "African" (neither is a singular ethnicity or race). Similar to how all "africans" are "black", but not all "blacks" "africans".

Now "the N-word" (wordfiltered, despite being just as offensive as ****** or kraut) is another matter entirely, since it's an inherently derogatory term.

It doesn't matter what country you say you are from.
The term "******" is looked upon negatively due to how similar it sounds to the N word and history of deragotory usage in America. Black is the more prefered term in English speaking countries, since you are participating on an English speaking forum. You should be aware of that.

Fine whatever word is offensive. There you go. So can you stop using it? Unless of course your intention is to offend?

Or you actually need to use the word ****** to say something.

But the context pertinent to the question of a gay romance is the biological one. They may not have the gender roles that we do, but that isn't relevant to sex. They are biologically female, thus it is a same-sex romance for a female to make sex with them. After all, a person of one sex can assume a different gender role without changing their sex.

There have been slaves of every ethnicity and race, mostly within their own ethnicity or race. People tend to forget that the vast majority of slavers have always primarily enslaved people of their own kind, not others.

Uh...no. I'm well aware there has been slavery since ancient times. Doesn't stop the word from being offensive. That's like saying due to the holocaust (I know Godwin'd) that other genocides aren't horrible atrocities.

What's with all this comparison of sexuality to slavery and other nonsense? Do these have anything to do with Mass Effect the game? NONE.

This is Bioware's game. If they chose to include the concept of asari sexuality which made what some of you call "female-female" romance, then so be it. If they don't want to include "male-male" romance, then so be it too. It's their game, and there is nothing unfair about having or not having any of these elements. This is just a video game, folks. Play it and move on, if you like it, or don't play it if you don't.

I am heterosexual, and my personal preference and feelings make homosexuality very uncomfortable. This has nothing to do with how I treat homosexual individual out in the real world. I see all of them as human beings, but with different life styles. As long as there is an understanding and we each respect our private space, there is no issue.

However, in playing a video game in the comfort of my own living room, it gets different. I play games to be entertained in a way that makes me feel comfortable. If a game is not fun or doesn't make me comfortable, I don't play it. Since homosexuality isn't comfortable for me, such content in a video game won't be enjoyable for me either. Again, this has nothing to do with homophobia or hatred or any kind of ridiculous arguments like how such people like myself should be damned and remembered like the slave owners or ****s or whatever.

Again, I dare say that this is a video game where each individual player's personal preference plays a huge role in whether or not the game actually achieves its main goal: to entertain the player. Let's leave the real-world social issues out of this, shall we?

Those in support of same-sex romances have their 5th or 6th ongoing threads now and by all means, they can talk about whatever they think might make the game more enjoyable for them. Vice versa, it holds true for anyone who feels otherwise. But, yet again, in both threads, we have people constantly derailing the thread or calling anyone with different opinion trolls or any kind of childish and immature remarks which is completely appalling.

In short, I support all discussions in favor or not in favor of any given topic. On the matter of same-sex romance, I would prefer not to have it entirely. There, I said it, without the whole needless moaning about definition of homophobia or relations to slavery or how one embarrassed the heck out of some neighbor who didn't like you or whatever else that's been thrown out in this thread.

I will continue to use the word ****** where applicable. If I mean negroes, I will say negroes. If I mean african americans, I will say african americans. If I mean blacks, I will say blacks.

Just because all these words overlaps on a great many points don't make them interchangable.

Or C, he knew exactly what he was saying and is just a racist. It's not much of a stretch for someone who is a homophobe to also be racist. it's the same line of thinking; demonizing people different from you.

Yes the thread has got rather off topic has it not?

Personally I don't care if Bioware includes a same sex romance.

however . . . considering how far into the series we are, a series with primarily hetrosexual romances, it seems to me that it would be folly to include a homosexual romance this late in the series.

Dragon Age on the other hand . . .

Wrong again.
