Wow the lack of tolerance on the internetz always amazes me, on both sides of the argument.

Not that I care about gay/strait/ or waffles, but I pretty much disagree with anyone who treats opinions as facts.

Good luck with the cause-fighting, I hope Bioware ignores everyone and keeps making their games like they want.

Why are the same-sex supporters posting here? You got nothing to prove to these silly sods; you contribute a lot better to your cause by posting in your own thread than by bumping this meangerie of crazy up the forum. You're not making yourself favours by keeping it afloat.

I rather enjoy the sight of humans on their knees. ... That was a joke.
- E.D.I. aboard Normandy II

Somewhere, someone (or perhaps a number of people) is/are having a fantastic belly laugh at the expense of those crying foul. There were numerous points where I found myself asking 'could this be real? Can someone actually be this narrow minded? Is this sarcasm? Is this just a troll thread?' Unfortunately, in the world of anonymity and emotionless text, it is very difficult to be certain when one is being genuine, sarcastic, or just plain offensive.

Those in support of this thread's title have come from all three cloths. There are people who are just riding the wave of sarcasm, other people who genuinely support it, and others who support it, and want to be as degrading and offensive as possible. It's hard to take this thread seriously, as a result. Furthermore, when the door to level-headed, mature discussion was opened by those that started the thread, it was immediately slammed shut at the first sign of opposition from the pro-gay romance supporters. Again, it's very difficult to take this group of people seriously if their definition of open, fair, unbiased discussion caters only to those who support their cause. If this thread was originally intended as a prank, the only people laughing are the ones that started it. This means that its original intent was lost and instead replaced with offensive garbage. 'Its just a joke!' is not a justifiable retort at this point.

Furthermore, it's been derailed so badly that now I don't think it is capable of getting back on topic seriously anymore.

On the subject of the Asari: They are an all female race. This makes the romance between femaleShepard and Liara a lesbian romance. The arguments I see from the anti-same-sex crowd claiming that Liara is not female due to Asari being mono-gendered serve only to justify to them the optional lesbian relationship itself. It allows them to deflect the actual homosexuality in favour of something less offensive to their moral code. 'If Liara's not actually female, then femaleShepard making out with her is not really gay. That makes it okay! Which is good, because it's incredibly arrousing!'

And on the topic of National Socialism in Sweden, I'm actually not surprised. Before reading further, it should be noted that I don't keep my ear to the ground too much when it comes to European politics, but I do pick up snippets of interesting things now and then. What I'm about to put down in writing should not be taken as 100% accurate. It is only speculation on the part of an outside observer, myself. I've heard that there has been a rise of anti-Islamic political movements in Switzerland, but it could also have been Sweden. From what I read in the news article, it appeared that the general public was getting concerned regarding the rise of Islamic influence in government, policy-making and lawmaking. Indeed, this is not a new phenomenon. A mindset exists where natural born citizens of democractic, predominantly non-Muslim countries believe that Muslims are immigrating and breeding en-masse with a long term goal of outnumbering the non-Muslim population, thus becoming the majority and legally influencing government to suit their culture as opposed to the natural culture they moved in to, by establishing and voting for their own political party. Such a mindset, if adopted by enough people, can potentially give rise to political movements like National Socialism once again. While on a regular basis I believe intolerance is poisonous, and that people can do whatever they want if it doesn't interfere with what I do, I will admit I'm not so naïve as to think that the notion is inconceivable. Especially not with evidence of it actually taking place in the United Kingdom.

At the end of the day, BioWare surely had a good laugh, shook their heads at the venom spewed back and forth in this thread, and went on their merry way. And that's being optimistic. The realist inside me would be willing to bet they don't give a rat's behind as to what either side wants in ME3. They're going to develop ME3 how they want to develop it, and we're going to like it. Not in the 'angry-mother-when-you-don't-eat-your-veggies' way, I mean we're actually going to like it.

Welcome to the party, General Stubbs :D

Glad to be here!

We were discussing our opinions on waffles. Feel free to dive in any time.

Waffles are very tasty and there are many varieties, but you know what information goes best with them?
In strategy games, attacking a unit with a flamethrower will have no effect if the unit has no morale in the first place.
Now add that and waffles together, and you have one a life's greatest mysteries.

Then I love them, as well. Preferrably plain, not with chocolate, they're sweet enough already.

Thank you for realizing what we were trying to do, and if people dont like this thread why bother coming here in the first place, why not let it just die down own its own and instead of posting things that have nothing to do with it. All i was trying to do was make a thread so people that beleive the same thing we do dont have to be pushed into having something they dont like be put into a game. People have a pro gay group we have are anti gay group, dont like it, join the gay group. We didnt make the group for gays we made the group to not have it in are game. Simple.

So the main anti-gay person in this thread is an admitted and self-professed Naz i, and I get the facepalm for saying it's not a stretch to imagine that homophobes are usually racist?

Illogical.

You said they're demonizing people different from them. Aren't you doing the exact same thing by claiming that homophobes are also very likely racist?
You took two unrelated negative attributes of mankind, and mashed them together in people who think differently from you.

That said, I support the adition of gay romances in 3. Or would, if I wouldn't be so tired of seeing "OMG, WE WANT GAY ROMANCES" threads.

They are very much related and rooted in humanity, not to mention they're both xenophobic traits. It's not hard to imagine how someone who hates gays cause there different can also hate blacks, jews, arabs, etc. because they're different.

My problem with it is that Bioware hasn't figured out a way around romance conversations with npcs yet. For example, I play my Shep to have a big brother type relationship with Tali. Unfortunately, if you take that road then your dialogue options pretty much die after you turn them down. It seems that Bioware expects that you wouldn't really talk to npcs unless you were trying to romance them, which is silly considering how good a job they did making every character extremely interesting.

I would be onboard for the same sex thing if two conditions are met:

1. The npc doesn't initiate the romance.

2. Dialogue is not cut short if you don't pursue a romance with them.

These two conditions would appease the no same sex romance people like me, and the same sex people.

Some of us have posted clear sensible and unbiased reasons for why we think same sex romances shouldn't be included..

You may think you have, but there is no sensible explanation for an unsensible opinion.

That's the double standard I'm talking about. The unwillingness to consider a different point of view. There's been lots of talk about intolerance with homophobia, but that's all just getting reflected back with intolerance like this example. I'm a liberal myself, but unlike many others, I understand how easy it is to become a hypocrite. Like with religion, many belive it's fine to mock Christianity yet draw the line at Islam. Those who protest this political correctness are smeared as racists but theres much more to it than that. The point is where the line is drawn. Why should christians take the flak, and at the same time, why should muslims be given special treatment? I understand your reasoning and the phobes aren't helping, but I'm providing a counter argument which deserves a little more credence.

My reasoning against same sex romances is because it would be detrimental to have same sex love interests throwing themselves at Shepard (as is the way in ME games). The gay stereotype already had enough of a bad rep with being 'sexually voracious'.

The main sales come from heterosexual gamers. It's just fact, and having the majority of them feel uncomfortable when Jacob or some other character starts flirting with their m!Shep far outweighs those disappointed with a lack of gay romances. The truth is, most straight guys do harbour awkwardness around those of the same sex who show a physical attraction to them, unlike women or homosexuals. Imagine the number of complaints from straight gamers unnerved by the not-so-subtle gay sexuality if it actually becomes integral to the character.

IF the relationship is entirely sparked by Shepard without any prior signs of attraction beforehand, and the conversation wheel makes it clear when you're selecting a romance option, then I don't have a problem with it and I'm sure many other straight gamers wouldn't either. If it is implemented, it should be something that can be entirely omitted without ignoring the character entirely. Some of the ME2 characters had absolutely nothing to say if you didn't romance them, and I don't want to see that again. To me, it just made them seem like a piece of meat to be romanced.

EDIT: nelly21, you JUST beat me. That's everything I suggested, put so much more consisely.

Have you read the whole thread ?

It was mentioned often enough that a discussion is welcomed, the group in my banner has worked hard to create a thread where different oppinions pro and contra can be discussed ( not that anyone ever brought a sensible argument against it ).

This thread attacks that group in the very title and contains no better argument than " it makes me feel icky". Not to mention that starting the thread in three different Subforums and spamming our discussion thread yesterday cleary marks the op as trollish. After that the whole thread went downhill in an spectacular manner covering racism and the proper use of the n-word, national sozialism and a different n-word and other unplesantness from posters of various sides.

So this thread is offtopic since page one and incluedes no valid or intresting information ( ok some stuff here is fascinating in a makaber way ) but believing that anyone who posted more than trice in this trainwreck of an thread is anything but a troll is naive.

To stress the point: The topic if and how s/s romances should be available can be discussed but not like it is done here.

And to the op: try working on creating a better starting post and to encourage a better behaviour in the members of your group, than you will maybe be able to keep a cleaner and mor productive thread, it did take us several incarnations too. (Even if you clearly belong to the minority you have the right to express your opinion.)

The ME1 codex says in the first line that yes, the asari are an all-female race.

Can't remember if that's changed in the ME2 codex.

But GUYS, you're turning this serious again. D:
