Are you sure about that? BioWare is usually pretty good about letting us say what we want, so long as we can keep it civil. And the thing about free speech is: if you want to have it, you have to let that person you hate have it too.

As you know, the_one, we don't have free speech here. We have restricted and moderated speech subject to a set of rules. This is a privately-owned and operated forum, not a public venue in the United States with fully-protected speech rights. BioWare can draw the line wherever they want. The discussion here potentially would make private (or public) employers subject to a harassment lawsuit under current U.S. laws regarding "hostile work environments" if it took place around a conference table or in a break room. Because of internet convention and continued cultural tolerance of homophobia, even a progressive developer like Bio seems to feel the need to permit the advocacy of this type of bigotry. An active white supremacist thread would have been locked long ago, and the responsible parties (temp-)banned. We saw it happen on the old ME boards at least a couple times.

I agree about the header, though derailing a thread on purpose because people don't agree is rather childish don't you think? I think it's an interesting debate if done maturely, but maturity is hard to find on gaming forums.

I'mma have to be serious for a minute here.

Serious face is go. I will direct this personally. I agree with you there. I understand that everybody has the right to have an opinion, even if I think it's completely asinine. But The op should have chosen his words a bit more carefully, because I'm sure it would have been a bit more civil. But, things like this are doomed to fall into chaos from the start.

No matter what BioWare does in the game, there will always be a group of people who where put off by something.

I still stand by my opinion of "If you don't want gay romance, don't romance them." You can still talk to them, you can turn them down if they advance on you. BioWare may have to consider adding a bit more dialogue to appease the Platonic crowd. I wouldn't mind that either. Hell, I think everybody wants that. I'd like to talk to Garrus without him alluding to "Reach and Flexibility."

I have a feeling that if they did that in ME3, we won't be having threads like this.

I think this could do with having another group or topic dedicated to it minus all the homophobia/racism. Its definately not doing itself any favours. No matter how many pages this gets, people will still keep quoting the OP and earlier pages.

Not at all, CShep - believe me, I think people are plenty capable of making arguments or thinking issues through without having biases or being (ultimately) swayed by their biases even if they do have them. I was just trying to clarify your objections, not being accusatory.



As for Jack, though - how do you suggest we resolve that issue? In my mind, as I said, you're making a very fair point about the way ME2 relationships operate. But if Bio doesn't fix them generally, what's more problematic about a M/M romance option than an undesirable M/F romance option? If you're saying they're equally problematic to you from a roleplaying standpoint, I'm totally on board.
