Since it's late, this will be short and conclusionary. I have really tried to understand where you are coming from regarding this 'free will with a little influence thrown in'. It just doesn't make sense. It can't. Human's aren't innately good or evil; we can't determine who is going to be good right from birth. Our choices and experiences dictate our actions. Plain and simple. But we've hit a brick wall and can't seem to communicate past that point. No need to keep hammering at it with the same logic.
Human nature is by defination awesome and awful. We're capable of many terrible things, but also some great things. To take our mistakes out of the equation would not teach us anything. Hell, it would make life boring if we were perfect. We can never be entirely happy; even the richest most famous people in the world get depressed. We're individuals and that's a good thing; our failings define us and give us reason to keep living. With everything we want at our fingertips, without goals, what is the point in living? Life becomes monotomous and boring.
The Old Testament is an entirely different story to the New Testament, and I don't particularly agree with the tougher policies it suggests. As I've mentioned many times, I'm not exactly a traditionalist when it comes to faith. Organized religions annoy me, and there are countless issues I have with the man-made bible. You can criticise that as much as you want without a counter argument from me.
As for the atrocities you mention, I just have one thing to say; for every death there is a birth. For every Hitler, there's a Gandhi. It's all a matter of interpretation and what you look for in life.
The point about my belief is I'm comfortable with it. I'm comfortable with the unknowns still out there. That's what faith is all about, putting stock in something greater than oneself. I don't need science to provide all the answers, because I know as soon as science answers one question, it opens up another ten. Science has shaped my understanding of religion, and puts it into context, but its just developed my belief into a grander scheme; that a higher power created an entire universe rather than just a flat chunk of rock as this ancient outdated bible suggests. You might call me ignorant or misguided for what I think, but the truth is I'm comfortable with my place in all this. Something those seeking answers aren't.
You did kinda prove the point I made way back about some atheists, btw. I appreciate the feedback and long conversation you've provided me, but it seems we both have a need to defend our belief/lack of belief. I know I got a bit vocal about my faith in this argument which is something I rarely do, but I also felt there was a need for you to rationalise and justify my argument against yours. Simple answer is it can't be done. I try to merge science with faith for my own little personalized version of Christianity I've got going on, but it takes a leap of faith (CShep25 wrote...
I have no beef with atheists, but when they persist in enforcing their beliefs on me without provocation, it riles me up. I don't go around spreading the word of God; I don't apply the bible to everyday life, I don't go to mass, I keep my religion private, and I'm perfectly fine with the idea that others don't believe. I don't even think less of them as you appear to do with creationists. Of course, you have the right to think less of me if you wish. It's just not nice if you decided to go out of your way to question my faith as it wouldn't be nice if I threw passages from the bible at you. Common courtesy.
Anyway. Good topic in a weird thread about waffles. Good night.

I'm so disappointed. Not only am I posting to this thread again, but I could only make it to the minute mark. And that's by cheating. I thought "hey, whatever it is, I surely can go more than 49 seconds." But after 30 seconds, I thought maybe if I just had it playing in the background while I read something else. But no. I fail. Just like this thread.

Birth pains are the result of Lilith's sin against creation. I could be wrong, but I can't remember in my studies ever reading that birth pains are the result of Adam and Eve. I believe it goes something like "When lilith killed Adams children God punished her and all the women to know the pain she inflicted on Eve." As I said I can't remember.Collider wrote...
Really? If I were a woman, the Bible says, I am going to have pain while birthing children due to the actions of Adam/Eve. Maybe women stopped having pain while in labor?????
Not my point. My point is that his sins were conducted in a finite lifetime.
Yea, don't be surprised if I'm not appreciative of being paired with someone like Hitler.
As for Hitler, finite time is irrelevant to the sin's purpotrated. If you sin you must attone or you go to hell. Last I checked he was pretty far from attoning. Several counts of Blashpemy in God's name does not look well on the sins list when being judged.
